In the same rough proportions / ratios across genres?
I dunno I just assumed female gamers would pretty much play the same games as male gamers. I don't have stats to back that up of course.

the proportions would be unreliable, I'd imagine. Female gamers always tend to be older as far as I've met, late teens and up. Male gamers seem to start way younger, and often go for just shooter after shooter and football game after football game - I'd like to think that an older, more well adjusted gamer would have more sense (not ragging on shooters, just ragging on shooters that are too similar to one another)which could make the ratios somewhat skewiff. Too many variable other than gender

Eh different people like different things. I?m female and personally I play pretty much everything, tho when I first started gaming I mostly played rpgs and I?ve never really gotten into competitive multiplayer or sims. I like my games to have a strong story but it?s not a necessity.

I guess I?m a bit more drawn towards female protagonists than male ones. I generally don?t like a lot of the character design for female characters in video games or how they are marketed and shallow tho that may be it dose occasionally put me off games but one of my friends who games and is male is the same with stuff like that

The majority of female gamers I know play MMORPGs. What surprises me is that those female MMO players aren't bitches, they're just regular people, nearly every female I've met in genres like FPSs or MOBAs are attention seeking sluts that spam shit in chat like "SILLY BOIS XDDDDDDDDDDDDD" and use an excessive amount of Asian emoticons.

What is it with video games and regressive attitudes about gender?
I blame the schools.

Persona 3 Portable for PSP/PSVita

Pretty much an updated version of the PS2 classic but with a female story line.

My sister loves it. I've suggested it to my other female friends and they love it, too.

Great game. Works well with either gender.

EDIT: Feels like I'm the only one giving a game suggestion. How nice...

Ones with well designed and fun gameplay mechanics, well thought out art styles, and if they're narrative- have an engaging story with interesting and well developed characters rather than charicatures.
So essentially - Good games. Funny how the simplest answer often makes the most sense.
But there we just loop back around to personal opinion on what's fun. Are there fewer women who play games because they don't like the hobby at all or because there aren't enough games designed with aspects that are preferred?
Female gamers are inclined to like what men like gameplay wise I don't think there is any difference there. The fact that women only like pony games or The Sims 3 is a complete myth. However, I think there are a few of things that will make it easier for devs to sell to women.

Have the option of a female protagonist and do not under any circumstances just gender swap the main character and have everyone refer to, or treat her like she is male. Immersion is a big issue with video games and when you don't have a protag you can relate to it can be very disconcerting.

If the game has a fixed protagonist like Deus Ex have him treat women with respect and have a wide range of female characters within the game if its appropriate there is nothing worse than playing as a Duke Nukem for a woman.

Have attractive but not heavily sexualised armour. Women like their characters to look good but not like they have been made that way for the male gamers.

These are a few thing I would say are important to female gamers. In no way am I trying to speak for my entire sex but its just some things I've noticed over 25 years of gaming.

Edit: Just something I'd like to add: Playing The Sims 3 or pony games doesn't make you any less of a gamer BUT it should never be assumed that just because some women enjoy them that it's the extent of taste for an entire sex.

It's like me saying all men love to play Call of Duty when I know from these forums that they certainly don't.

I expect women to like whatever game they like. I've known guys who hated shooters, fighters, and other male-targeted genres and girls who loved them.

Women can game? I thought they just got voting privileges last year...

OT: Non-hardcore babes would enjoy JRPG's if they gave them a chance. Stories that tug on the heartstrings, pretty graphics and characters, love interests, dialogue and shit....what more do you need, ladies?

More hardcore babes, Left 4 Dead and Gears.

Growing up with a predominantly male group of gamers, I've never particularly thought of boys as liking shootyshooty. I have accepted that those games are aimed at a more male market, but that's not the same thing. I've never particularly noted the guys I know to play any one thing.

So I don't know why I'd think otherwise for girls.

Most of the women I met play Puzzle and Sim related games. However, I also know a few women who prefer game's like Silent Hill, Streets of Rage, and Borderlands.

The only "major" gaming girl I knew well enough to see her library was a major CoD fan, with Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter peeking out from there as well.

Another gaming girl I've talked to is just a massive Nintendo fan, but I don't know the specifics.

The less hardcore ones mostly play The Sims. Seems like a decent data point to me.

I don't get what's up with this need to put up a hard line on gender roles these last few years. Women play what women play, men play what men play. Most of the time it's the same thing.

I know plenty of women who, after a hard day's work of flipping burgers, talking to idiot customers on a phone, and getting treated like shit behind retail counters, just want to end the day by blowing the brains out of a helpless zombie with a high powered rifle.

As a girl I do like "typical" girl games like Harvest Moon and almost any puzzle games. But I also enjoy FPS, fighting, action, dating sims, and horror games as well. Only games I'm really not into is sports (except golf).
