Stephen Hawking is British not American.McScruffy said:As for the smartest man in the world comment; Stephen Hawking has one of the most brilliant minds in the world today, and America is responsible for a lot of leading research into nanotechnology, particle physics (until the LHC comes online), and chemistry (Polymer science got it's beginnings in Erie, PA). Contrary to popular media belief, the United States is not (entirely) filled with overweight, ignorant rednecks who can't formulate a single thought beyond "I wonder if a Big Mac tastes good WITHOUT the special sauce?". While we, as a nation, have slipped as a leading scientific mind for the world, there is still a lot of brain power on this side of the pond (eat MIT's 1000 GHz processor!).
yeah i know their are American missions but the main ones aren'tWrongSprite said:Uh....did you miss the American missions?sean.2k9 said:well the main guy in cod4 was british and the main guy in cod5 was russian
Off topic? I was offering a reason as to why most games take place in America or star Americans. Which would of course be your topic of discussion.Spirultima said:Done going off topic now? Lucky, i didn't know Lionhead XD
Whoops. He should be American. Damn Stephen Hawking, ruining my entire argument.poncho14 said:Stephen Hawking is British not American.McScruffy said:As for the smartest man in the world comment; Stephen Hawking has one of the most brilliant minds in the world today, and America is responsible for a lot of leading research into nanotechnology, particle physics (until the LHC comes online), and chemistry (Polymer science got it's beginnings in Erie, PA). That means nothing, most Japanese games take the more intelligent route and make up an entire world. E.g. On Final Fantasy its always a new world map, but keeping to principles like 3 continents.Eldritch Warlord said:Off topic? Good point, though when the OP said that a disproportionate number of characters are American, I assume he wasn't talking about the sort of "American" that has a thick Indian accent and a childhood in Mumbai.boholikeu said:The problem with that argument is that "American" isn't a race, it's a nationality. When those Hungarians, Germans, Italians, Russians, etc etc. move to America to get their work done most of them get citizenship as well. Voila, they are now Americans too!Fraser.J.A said:In short: it's not so much the people, it's the cultural momentum.
That's just not true, actually. There are plenty of games that take place in Japan, maybe even as many as there are games that take place in America. The only reason you don't hear about them is they rarely get translated into English.Spirultima said:That means nothing, most Japanese games take the more intelligent route and make up an entire world. American designers just go with the most basic design, the one already there.
Heh true. Though if you can't tell from the post above, I don't exactly agree with the OP's claim.Fraser.J.A said:Good point, though when the OP said that a disproportionate number of characters are American, I assume he wasn't talking about the sort of "American" that has a thick Indian accent and a childhood in Mumbai.boholikeu said:The problem with that argument is that "American" isn't a race, it's a nationality. Of course not, but they're always going on about their freedom more than I see any other country doing soSpirultima said:So america is the ONLY free country here?veekter said:My guess is that it has something to do with America being a free country
Yeah you go on about freedom till your eye balls fall out, but i don't see any evidence supporting as much freedom as what is said in the media, because it isn't true.veekter said:but they're always going on about their freedom more than I see any other country doing so
