Games in diffrent languages Your thoughts?

So i'v been playing K-on Game for my PSP and of course it's not in english so i have to work my way around menu screen And quite frankly I'v been playing it so long I'm able to just instintivly work my way without even looking?
So have you ever played a Game in another language and been able to play with ease?

(Also i have gotten S rank for all ritsu Songs on hard <3) Sorry had to brag to the internet :3

I played through the Cowboy Bebop: Tsuioku no Serenade PS2 game, which is entirely in Japanese (i.e. it was never exported, I think). I did this out of sheer love and need of Bebop. For the cutscenes, I would pause the game, watch a fan subbed version first on YouTube, then watch the cutscene play through. For gameplay reasons it didn't much matter, since the game is a pretty straightforward beat 'em up. Ed ocassionally shows up to provide hints and tips or simple comic relief; most of it was lost on me unless the text showed a controller button in it. Generally speaking though, it was an interesting experience. And it certainly helped out having watched the whole anime and movie spin-off first.

And as a kid most games I played were in English. I did not know English at the time. But of course games were simpler back then.

I play imports all the time so I'm used to seeing the Japanese dialogue boxes and item names. Good for me though since I actually know Japanese and can read it just fine. Only thing that annoys me is when I'm translating games like Kingdom Hearts Final Mix and the game starts using Kanji I don't know and they don't put furigana on the top of it so that I can translate it. I also get irked when games like Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job Edition use the worst font for Hirigana I've ever seen in my entire life. The hirigana in that game makes me cringe every time. The thing about the Final Mixes and International games though is that they have English voice acting so that's one less aspect for me to translate.

I played the Super Famicom version of Final Fantasy 5 earlier this year. I came away being able to very slowly read some katakana & hiragana. It wasn't all that hard really. Once you recognise the main sounds you can usually have a good idea of what someone is saying.

Not entirely in another language, but I did go through Metro 2033 with spoken dialogue in Russian. It really added to the atmosphere for me.

When I was a kid and didnt know English I got FFVIII in english as a gift, didn't know half the shit it said and it's still one of my favorites, the first time I ever played I became stuck when they send you to find a Ship, I just roamed the world aimlessly... fun fun fun...

I'm from the Netherlands, but I learned most of my English from playing games. I did have a few games with Dutch voices though. The Sly 2 ones were actually pretty decent too.

When I was a small girl, I played Starcraft, Fallout 1 and Half-life in English. Russian localization was shit at that time, and I fear that my parents may have been the very few people who sometimes actually bought licenced games.

So yeah, my Dad showed how it works and everything was fine. Granted, I was easily amused and spent countless hours getting annihilated in Starcraft. Never won a single game against the computer, but I stiout 1 and Half-life in English. I prefer to play my games in English. So I can understand what's going on(most everything I play is very story-oriented so playing in English is a must).

Well, English is not my native language so I guess... most? I have learned a lot of English from games and movies and I think it's part of why I am as good as I am.

Not counting English then it's rare. I like to know what's going on. I can understand a little German and I have played some games in Japanese, but I really do need the story in order to get complete enjoyment in a game.

Every single game I've played has had English text, because that's the only language that I'm proficient enough in to understand what's going on )I do know some German, but not well enough to play most games). However, I did play Metro 2033 with Russian voices and English subtitles, and I am a huge fan of Nehrim, which only has German voices.

I second this, lots of games i played when i was younger and poor or less understanding of english i replayed on later years and wondered to myself "how on earth did i even manage through this game?", like mech commander from 1998 wich is kinda advanced for a 10-11 year old to get through without understanding english that good.

Or when i replayed starcraft 1 that i played when i was around the same age afew years later and went" oooooh so thats what the story was about".

The great thing tho was by playing these kinda games it forced me to look in a swedish to english dictionary and made english class at school a breeze for me...except the damned spelling tho have minor dyslexia to blame on that to some part.

Sometimes, just to switch it up, I change a game's language in Steam. Since I've already played the game, I can work it just fine. Most games I play in English, but I can read German at a fairly quick rate, so sometimes I just make them German and leave it.

One of the Taiko games (for the DS, got it in Tokyo) I've been able to play with ease.

By contrast, F.F.Tactics A2, which I got in Japanese, I could play because I was familiar with the interface, but it was certainly difficult because of the insanely difficult Kanji.

I tried to play Metro 2033 in Russian, but the voice acting was better in English.
Also, I sometimes change the UI language to French, since I've been learning it in school, and it's nice to learn new words that you can't find in a French book's glossary. Not that I'll use most of the words I learn from video games unless I'm in a warzone, but whatever.
