Just thought it would be interesting to see some of the subtle references you escapees have noticed games make to other games.

I'll start with the first level of Sonic Adventure 2 with Sonic sliding down the hill referencing Crazy Taxi's arcade level.

I think half the WoW achievements are references to other games

(my friend told me there is an achievement called "The Cake is Not a Lie")

NieR, to the extent where just about every dungeon borrows formulas from other genres (the static camera angles of Resident Evil, text-based adventures like Zork, and even numerous bullet hell shooters.) Not to mention one blatantly obvious Zelda reference.

There is. It's for baking a cake =D.

Also most of their quest names refer to some other game or movie. It's ridiculous how many different references they have. Like a quest named "Zed's Probably Dead" which is an obvious reference to Pulp Fiction. But listing all of them would take years so I'll stop with one.

Return of Matt Hazard is basically all references to popular games and genres. One boss is actual based on turn-based games and as you run around finding cover and making your shots, you can see him or her selecting his or her next attack from a Final Fantasy type menu.

At the end of Dragon Age Origins Sten says "where is the cake? They said there would be cake. The cake is a lie" (Portal)

In Left 4 Dead Francis has the Lambda logo shaved into his head (Half-Life)

In Battlefield Bad Company 2 one of the main characters says something along the lines of other soldiers in special ops getting fancy rifles with "pussy ass heart beat sensors" (Modern Warfare 2)

In Left 4 Dead during "the sacrifice" campaign, when asked why then need a sailboat instead of a gas powered boat, Bill says "you know who runs around filling up things with gas? Idiots" (Left 4 Dead 2)

In Fallout 3 there's a "Ferrugut Metro Station" and there's a Ft. Farrugut in Oblivion (Elder Scrolls Oblivion)

I've never seen one to name yet but I do know one where it references a book. I Pirates Vs. Ninja: Dogeball, it makes a reference to "The seventh circle of Danté's Hell," when talking about the zombies.

Plenty of games do this. Through gameplay or achievements or some other combination.

Here's some I found:

Infamous(PS3) - "Oh, you've done this before." - Stick 50 people with electric grenades(reference to Halo and sticking people with plasma grenades)

Assassin's Creed 2 - When you first meet your Uncle, Mario: "Its-a me! Mario!"

In Wolverine Origin's the game you can find Frostmourne, a reference to WoW. You even get an achievement/trophy titled "WoW!"

And don't get me started on pop-culture references.

Every single cutscene in Bayonetta held a reference to SOME game.

Part of why I loved it so damn much.

Every Telltale game ever, especially the Sam & Max episode entitled "Reality 2.0." It had references to Mario, Dungeons & Dragons, Atari, Tron, text adventures, etc.

I think that's a bit of a coincidence. That's just meant to be San Francisco.

In FEAR 2 you can overhear a conversion between two black ops who found one of their own with his head ripped off. One suspects it was done by one the delta force soldiers running around, but the other doubts it seeing how badly he was mutilated to which the other responds, "well who else could it be? A psychotic lab technician with a crowbar?" My favorite moment in that game has to be this though:

I love that scene.

Saints Row 2 has posters for "Company of Gyros" all over the place, a parody of Company of Heroes.
