I'll be soon having a lan party with some friends and we'll be needing some games.
Please recommend some FPS, RPG and hack & slash games that work nicely on lan.

Oh! Oh! I know one game that is great for LAN =D "Blobby Volley" =D
Nah it's just a really fun kinda casual game =P

But on a more serious note. Uhm. Whenever I have LAN, we tend to play games like Warcraft, and Worms and etc. So. I don't have any of those games you are requesting. But I will however suggest that you -if you have not allready tried it- try out games like WC3, Worms, CoH, RoN etc on LAN. It's really fun

Oh. And have loads of fun at your LAN. Enjoy it to the fullest. And maybe some more for me, since I'm on a vessel, and are not able to LAN until the summer -.-

Edit:
Oh yeah. As Mr.Pandah-boy beneath me mantioned, Left 4 Dead. That is a really fun game to play on LAN.

But also, you know. Consoles are also very fun to play on LAN. In my opinion, at least ...

Well LAN is one of the most enjoyable ways to game so kudos to you for actually getting one together.

As for what actual games to play, I'd have to state the obvious. Left 4 Dead. RTS's make for good LAN parties as well, so I'd go with some Warcraft III.

Thanks Daye.04.
RTS is not really the type im interested in but we are apparently having DoW as the RTS.
Now there's only the RPG and hackslashers. And we don't have consoles, just PCs.

Well i would recommend CS:S and C&C generals, they have always been the most fun when me and my friends have played.

Ah, dude you're bringing back memories!

In Brazil, LAN was the way to go! On pretty much every block there was a LAN house full of computers with Counter-Strike and StarCraft. Me and a like twenty guys would all get together and play all night long for like 12 reais, which, back then, was like four dollars.

But those days are ending... As computers get newer and Brazil's internet is becoming reliable and fast, people just don't need to use LAN houses. But those were the days!

EDIT: Oh yeah, play CS for sure.

I remember playing Half Life 1 on LAN with my brother and his friend. It was only the three of us but it was a lot of fun *nostalgia!*.

CS:S is fun, but only if you can get a lot of people. Other than that... Quake 3?

No trolling or flaming intended but I hate CS as much as Yahtzee hates humanity, if not more.
So thanks for the rec but we'll pass that.

Freelancer is also good, old but damn it's quite fun to play with lan, and Warcraft 3 maps, Left 4 dead is good, CoD 4, most strategy games and shooters really

Well aren't you a picky gamer? Won't play Real Time Strategies or Counter strike? What's left?

Crysis Wars is enjoyable. I got it free, and so did most of the other comps in the household.

I would like to recommend Halo 2 Vista as well. Just make sure none of you are using gamepads.

Can you do Rainbow 6 Vegas on LAN? I think so. Would it be good? Most definitely.

Unreal Tournament can be massive fun!

And thats all I can think of. If you had broader horizens, I would suggest a million and one RTS games. But I can't.

Unreal tournament was amazing on my LANS. This was around 8th grade. We had a teacher who was supposed to be watching over us while we had a free period to do work and such, but this teacher let us do what we wanted. So we installed UT: 2004 on the computers and there was a 20 person lan party. Epic times.

So yes, try to get a UT game, certianly L4D, and CS would be good aswell.

Hi there,

I'm having a lan-party here in 2 days and I too was wondering what games to play, so I found this threat.

The games we usually play are:
- Unreal Tournament '04
- Counter Strike: Source
- Warcraft III
And some random other games if we feel like, for example Diablo II and Worms.

However, we've had 7 lan-party's before and we're going to play 48 hours this lan so we could use some new games :)

Anyone has a nice idea?

EDIT: We do neither have the 2000 euro PC's required for some games these days, we prefer the smaller, lighter games so everyone can join.

As mentioned above. Blobby Volley is great if you can find it entertaining enough =P

Also. I shall once again recommend CoH and RoH nations. In my opinion, they make LAN-RTSing completely diffrent

Our LAN party last weekend had some success with Supreme Commander. And if you can get an internet line open, you could also run a dedicated server for any Source games you have.
