It was eco-terrorism against a corrupt corporation, it's all good.

Most games aged badly. We tend to remember fondly our first experiences in a new genre that captivates us. For many it was FF7 on the PS1 that first introduced them to epic level JRPGs. Halo for FPS on the console. Doom on the computer for some of us older guys. None of these games can really hold a candle to the decent offerings in the genre today. We still look fondly on them mostly for nostalgia. RPG's at least have the bonus of excellent story telling and music to go along with them, replying less on graphics and technical prowess.

Basically I almost all games aged badly. This coming from a guy with hundreds upon hundreds of classic cartridges.
Whether it was for good or bad reasons, terrorism is still terrorism. I do not find it a good thing because it destroyed a part of a city, hindered the lives of all of its citizens, as well as putting many people out of a job and the people that were killed by the explosion and all the fallout from the blast.

I started playing epic rpg's with Final Fantasy on the NES.

Not to bait the flames, but I must say Final Fantasy VII. It had a poor translation, good graphics then but distracting now, lower quality music(Not the songs themselves, but the actual sound) and a few glitchy bits. It's still a good enough game, and great at the time. But the 2D ones, at least 5 and 6 have aged a bit better.
This and Goldeneye, the controls are quite shitty now.
I actually played FF7 more recently (back in the day I had an N64 I think that was the era)
and I still found it amazing, but then again I did really get into the story (then watching the movie helped with that too)

but I couldn't go back to Goldeneye because of the controls, took me a while to move from the Nintendo button controllers to using dual-analogs and it's weird using the N64 controller for the FPS movement in 007 haha

Kingdom Hearts. I used to love that game, and now I just can't get into it. I'm pretty sure it was the Little Mermaid level (whatever that world is called) in the second game that did it.

I'd recommend playing Goldeneye with a keyboard+mouse combo, it can be done (though I'm unsure if it is permissable to say how) and it makes such a difference...
If you were referring to what I think you were referring to, it is illegal to mention it.
If you were referring to Goldeneye Source, which I will not provide a link to because it might be misinterpreted as advertising, I believe that -is- legal.

Anyway, there's a lot of games I could go with in regards to the OP, but to throw some random names out there, I would have to say Daggerfall, Megarace, and GTA 1.

As did I, and it was a joke about the eco-terrorism. I forget from time to time that sarcasm does not properly translate into written form.

It's only been out for 4 years, but: Burnout Revenge.

It was a very fast-paced game with lost of destruction (and flames) which I loved on my PS2 (I eventually switched to the Xbox 360 version ( which I found better) one year later), but the new Split Second trailer just blew every Burnout and Full Auto (and all of the related games) game out of the fucking water.

The N64 Zeldas. They are decent, but when viewed without nostalgia goggles, they are the non-cdi low point of the series. Nothing will ever touch Minish cap.

Deus Ex. Fortunately it is such a great game, you can still enjoy playing it even with the dated graphics.
Cannot wait for Deus Ex 3.

While I think Goldeneye is still a rather solid FPS for it's time, and for the life of me I can not remeber the controls being a problem. Though I mean for a console FPS, obviously keyboards and mouses almost always work better for FPS then system controllers.

As for FF VII if square decided to change Cloud's name to Popeye, and gave him a sailor's hat I think it would help make the character model look a bit more impressive! ; )

I'd say Doom is the most jarring example of a game that didn't age well, but only for one specific reason. No Y-Axis aiming. They put on a good show of faking it, but it's not really 3D, and after... what, ~15 years now with full 3D games? That's just intolerable.

The gameplay holds up very well though, it's just a pure carnage shoot'em up against occasionally overwhelming numbers of enemies. That's probably what I like most about Left 4 Dead, someone finally recaptured that "holy shit I'm going to die" feeling that's been missing since the first time I heard a door open behind me, followed by the roar of a Cyberdemon.
