The most annoying thing with banjo and kazooie was that if you died all the notes reset. So you try and get all 100, hit 90 and die then you have to start all over again. They fixed that in the 360 port which i finished 100% in about a week.

I eventually beat it though. I think the fact that I beat so many hard games as a kid is what makes me good at games now.
Most recent for me would be Metal Slug XX. Now I knew it was expecting typical metal Slug difficulty which is what I got for like the first 2 missions, then it started to reach Metal Slug 3 difficulty. If you have played metal slug 3 you know how much that game likes to hand you your ass with a side of bullshit and chips, and XX just started to go there and even surpassed MS3 in terms of obsurd difficulty in some places.

I'm guessing that anything made on the NES is disqualified, because there's hard, then there's Nintendo Hard.
So...games that looked average in difficulty, then almost made me go into controller-throwing-rage.
That would be Explosion Man. christ that game got irritating half way through, especially the way that i tells you to puss out and skip to the next level.
Warcraft III gets an honorable mention, the final missions in that game are insanely difficult.

yeah anybody who says any kid games is right...there are some of those that are SO HARD, i remember toy story for gameboy NON color..holy holy piss, as a kid that game straight up mind fucked me, i had no idea how to beat some of those levels

When you were a kid and you couldn't beat a game. It got stuck in your head, and changes you. Soon your mission in life is to beat the game. and when you reach an age like 12 where your gaming skill has improved, you meet the game again and settle things once and for all.

Left 4 Dead 2 on Normal difficulty is significantly harder than I expected it to be. Easy is still really easy, though, so the difficulty progression is kind of jumpy.

Not really the game but a certain part, back in Chrono Trigger you could accidentally encounter Lavos too soon and get raped by him. Was also a real good WTF moment.

Super Ghouls n Ghosts made me its ***** for years, finally went back to it and finished it afew months ago but damn it was hard.
the day of the tenticle deserves a special mention aswell, for having that stupidly hard minigame where you had to avoid the old lady, once you started it it autosaved and you couldn't quit it untill you completed it, had to start the whole game again it was so hard.
