I would like to compile a list of games that, quite frankly, didn't live up to their hype.

Spore was an utter dissapointment, agreed. I had high hopes for that. Halo 3 is another ( like the halo series, just not 3, kinda lost the style for me.) Oh! definatly Fable 2

Yeah, no game will ever be as disappointing to me as Spore.

Yea, have you seen some of the interview videos from when it was still a couple of years from being completed, it looked more awsome than it turned out to be. You had things like an underwater stage and your buildings apperences reflected the kind of path your creature took. Basically, this game looked a lot more like the evolutionary life simulator we were promised.

Don't belive me than pull out some popcorn and see this thirty minute video of what Spore looked like three years ago.

Prototype, after beating the game twice and spending a couple of hours chopping people in half, it lost all novelty in it.

That's exactly why I'm disappointed with Spore. I've followed it since the beginning. It was the perfect game for me. I knew it would be a difficult concept to pull off, but what they had shown so far was promising. When I played the creator demo, it only further solidified the idea that the game would be amazing. The thought that it would not live up to hype never even crossed my mind.

Which is why I was crushed when I actually played the game.

Oh my fucking god. The game already disappointed me, after seeing that, I almost want to cry(or plan the takeover of Maxis and EA). I am so pissed.

Well, I do know why they ruined it. They wanted it to be for the casual gamer, the Sims player, so they dumbed it down, and presto! Watered down shit that wasn't half of the demo.

I thought Spore was a tragedy personally, because you could see all the things that had been stripped from it for the sake of dumbing it down. Poor Will Wright was bound by contract to only say what EA wanted him to say, but I'm sure it broke his heart to see what they did with his creation.

It's like taking Picasso's best paintings and mutilating them in front of him with house paint, then slapping your signature on it under his.

Anyway my list is expanding thanks to this thread. Thanks guys =)

I'm gonna get a kicking for this but Halo 3. HEAR ME OUT!!! I believe it was overhyped by the gaming media and therefore my expectations were raised by this and when I got it I was slightly disappointed by the story and the fact the equipment was hyped as a game changing mechanic. I barely use it. Online is good fun though.
