I've seen alot of threads here point out games that you didn't like which were portrayed as popular so how about the opposite. What game(s) did you like that gaming society in general condemned as horrid. (I checked, last thread for this was a year ago.)

For it would have to be Clive Barker's Jericho. It's like a one player Team Fortress 2, with class based combat and strategy. The story isn't all that deep really, some task force is sent to stop a demon but gets into more trouble but then, who cares. It's just alot of fun and each situation requires you to rely on a different team members skill. You have two healers, a priest with interchangeable rounds, a lady that controls time, a convict with a weapon for a hand, etc. It's dark and entertaining. I'm not clear on why it received such horrible reviews.

I played MapleStory for 4 years and LaTale for 1 year. They're both MMORPGs and they're both considered crap. They are actually fun to play, but the fact that next to every MMORPG is a powergrind, it gets boring quickly.

Also, I was shunned for playing Jet Set Radio Future, which just so happens to be my absolute most favorite game of all time.

Hexplore. Every time I find someone else who has even heard of it, all they can do is complain about the crappy graphics.

I actually never played a game that I completely changed my position on the game from a great game to a horrible one or visa versa. I have played games where I thought it was going to better than it was but still good, or thought it was going to be ok but was great (this one is rare for me), game was worst than I feared (had bad expectations from the start), or wasn't as bad as I thought but still won't play it.

Tenchu Z and the Dynasty Warriors series. Both are games that have dated graphics and gameplay that really needs an overhaul and the stories are rediculos but to me there good mindless fun. Tenchu Z is just sneaking around and killing people and dyansty warriors is you beathing the shit out of thousands! of enemies. The lack of story and bare bones presentation means that theres nothing to get in the way of me and my fun.

As far as modern games go, I quite enjoyed Darksiders.

Wait a second, I just looked, and an 83 on metacritic isn't really bad at all. Everybody I know who tried it didn't like it though.
Oh well, in that case, I've got nothing. Unfortunately I don't have a lot of time or money these days to try games I'm not sure will be worth my while, so I stick to ones that generally review higher, and look interesting to me.

Gonna sound lame, but: Animal Crossing. *shrugs* I just like that whole aspect for some reason.

Halo 3: ODST.
Maybe everyone didn't think it "sucked", per say, but considering how many Halo fans litterally accuse me of blasphemy whenever I say it's my favorite Halo game I think it qualifies quite nicely for this thread.

Super Mario Sunshine. Worst "Mario" game ever, but one of the best games with Mario in it.

Seconded for Dynasty Warriors. Everyone says it's too easy and mindless, but sometimes, I don't want to master complex combos and various dodge abilities a la God of War or Devil May Cry. I just want to press Square repeatedly and watch everything die. Having a sort of strategy-based map system also helped in my opinion. Having to move with the flow of combat. Made you feel like you were actually in a war zone.

Barring that, playing as Lu Bu after so many times he kicked your ass was so very satisfying.

Oh yes i just went there.
Haze looks kind of interesting but I don't know anyone who owns it. What is that game like anyway?

Sonic Unleashed. I found it to be pretty fun but almost everyone else says it is shit. To each their own I guess.
