We are often let down by hype as gamers, but was there ever a game you were really excited about that when you finally got it, lived up to all your expectations?

I personally breathed a huge sigh of relief I when stepped out of Vault 101 and saw the stunning, beautiful world laid out before me to explore. I've loved F3 wholeheartedly ever since.

Likewise, the first time I played Half Life 2 last year I was utterly blown away, even after being bombarded with hype from other gamers to the point where I was starting to hate it before I'd even tried it...

Also... Assasin's Cr- nah, I'm just joking.

STALKER. I hadn't followed the hype really, and goddamn it was a good game off the bat.

Other than that:

Max Payne 2, yeah it was a few years ago, but I couldn't have asked for more.

Fallout and Fallout 2. I got them in a bundle pack, I don't know, in '99. But, they were both definitely lived up to my expectations.

Quake 4 actually did to, though that had more to do with low initial expectations and the game not being half bad.

Oh, right, San Andreas. Basically it was exactly what I was expecting from it, and loads of fun.

I agree with you about F3, I was and still am very impressed.

The one that sticks in my mind to this day though is GTA III.
I was expecting it to be good but it blew me away and I was totally addicted, I still have the occasional go for old times sake now.

Best game I wasn't expecting or even heard much about was Portal, utterly brilliant and unique game

LOL @ Assassin's Creed.

Cod:2 I was hearing good things about it. When I played it for the first time it was awestruck.

And also KOTOR. Man that was a good game.

Saints Row 2. I, like many people, thought that it was nothing more than GTA knock off. Except when I got it I realized how awesome and full of explosions the game was. Its not a GTA knock off, its way better then GTA.

I wasn't impressed with Saints Row 2 when I tried it round a mates.
He keeps on saying I should have his version, now he's finished with it and give it a go.

Since so many people think it's a great game I might take him up on the offer and give it a second and proper look.

The only game that I have been tremendously excited for that did not disappoint was Halo 2. I was more hyped for that game that I've ever been before, and it met and greatly exceeded all of my expectations. I want to go on record saying Halo 2 was, is, and always will be the greatest multiplayer game ever.

Shadow of the Colossus. I just got it 'cause I got it cheap and DAMN! a game where you can actually think like you would in real life. This game just blew me away, although I still have no idea what the fuck the story was.

EDIT: I forgot Rainbow Six Vegas and Vegas 2. The only actual realistic shooter I've ever played.

I really like that game myself. just proves that you don't need to get the most modern games with the latest graphics, there are a lot of fantastic older games that some people will overlook.

Planescape: Torment - I'd heard good things about it, and by God I didn't stop playing it for days. People had told me that the dialogue and setting was good, and they were. And then some.

Jade Empire, I played it six times in a row I think and considering the epic storyline of the game its a good deal at only $6 at any Gamestop. The combat was also cool, and reached its highest point in my opinion when you fought the final boss on hard mode.

Thats how you should end a game people.

Damn, I wish Bioware would make another Jade Empire already.

I'm sure about a dozen people have said this already but Fallout 3 lived up to my expectations and Prince of Persia: Sands of Time. A game that completley missed my expectations was Red Faction: Guerilla.

I know this has been run into the ground recently but Batman: Arkham Asylum, I can't get over how good this games is from both a gamers point of view and a Batman fan point of view.
