Pokemon?

Everyone's goal in life is to enslave all the animals they can find and bash eachother's brains in. Even going as far as to stalk highways for random people to assault.
Old ladies, little boys, beauty pagants, everybody is up for some slavery.

fable 2 makes little sense to me. keep in mind that it dous make sense if your a pure good guy but if you are being evil then it makes no sense at all, you could leave the settlement with Teresa seeing you looking as normal as usual and then you could come back to her in bowerstone with horns, a belly, and riddled with stds and she dousen't seem to notice. Well keep in mind I do know that its a revenge plot and that it dousen't require the character to be a good guy per-say but regardless of what you do or what you look like, the main characters of the story still treat you more or less like a saint.

Also I agree with the pokemon thread, it never made much sense to me either I mean what is it really like in those pokeballs anyway?

In Tekken 6 there is a lot of animal abuse. Bears, pandas, kangaroos as well as pigs and sheeps flying everywhere.
As much as I ignore technical animal abuse in video games (killing guard dogs never counts), it did rather strike me as weird that the stages with sheep and pigs on them get flung about as you fight around them. Now with Panda, Kuma and Roger, they're more or less anthropomorphized fighters (with an unexplained ability to understand Common and converse in beast tongue yet still be understood).

the description of Darkest of Days on steam is overrating it wayyyy too much.

"Brand New Engine: The dedicated team at 8monkey Labs has created an all-new, groundbreaking game engine known as Marmoset. The Marmoset engine not only breaks from the all-too present Unreal engine FPS clones flooding the market, but also allows for some amazing graphical capabilities. You'll fight through epic battles filled with literally hundreds of NPCs on the screen at the same time, all with an advanced AI and all without a hint of graphical slowdown and all set against wide-open environments that are lushly detailed and dynamically lighted. "

"Compelling Storyline: Darkest of Days is a compelling, action-packed first-person shooter to be sure, but it's not just mindless run-and-gun, blow 'em up gameplay. You'll have to not only think about how to approach certain key battles and situations, but you'll also have to take care when fighting ? certain key people that were never meant to die will be marked with a special blue aura. If you kill them, you'll face dire consequences? "

"Wreak Havoc with Future Weapons in Antiquity: Something nearly every gamer that's ever played a shooter based in the past has always wanted is the ability to bring a futuristic weapon back through history and kick some major butt. How differently would Custer's last stand have turned out if the General was equipped with an M-16 assault rifle? You'll be able to answer questions like this in Darkest of Days. While not every battle and situation will allow you to wield weapons from the future, there will be plenty of opportunities for you to unleash futuristic fury on your unsuspecting foes."
.sorry if that was a bit long, but its what it says

Almost every Star Wars: "Screw being good; the Dark Side is much more effective!"
Really, this gets at a much deeper underlying message from any game ever made with a good/evil duality:

Evil...is...fun
...isnt that the whole point of the whole Light/Dark Side thing? That the Dark Side is easy and seductious, with promises of power, but is in the end ultimately unsatisfying because it only speaks to your most basic instincts? And the Light Side is hard and difficult, but leads to enlightenment? It's kind of hard to translate to a game, dont you think?
I think the point about the light/dark side is that they are both very extreme, and that light forces you to convert and become a slave to justice and righteousness, while the dark side corrupts you with power that blinds your judgment. To quote Obi-Wan Kenobi: "Only Sith deal in absolutes". No Obi, Jedi do too.

Really, the light side in anything can be described as sacrificing your own humanity to become a tool for good, while the dark side is sacrificing your own humanity to become a tool for evil.

More people need to join the gray side!

Nerd-speak over.

Driving around without any care for the road is fine. At worst you'll crash, smash yours and several other cars to pieces, but give it five seconds and you'll be back on the road no worse for ware.
I recently got hit by someone on the road. Minor impact, but there was a moment where my Burnout mentality wanted me to just retaliate by smashing into his backend to spin him out into traffic regardless of the damage to my car. I resisted, but it was there.

I'd like to see more games that truly embrace that evil is fun and have it as their main standpoint. Stealth 'em ups come to mind... With consequences if you get caught, although always a chance to get out of it and so on. :p

Actually, Oblivion was one of the first I played that actually punished you (occasionally) for taking things that weren't yours.
Yeah but that game is a bit overexcessive. I guess the moral of that is "If you so much as gently touch someone's potato it is a crime punishable by death." And honestly, I don't know how much blood is worth in relation to other currency. The guards always tell me it's an optional alternative, but they never seem to tell me how much blood I owe. I would think 15 pints is worth a bit more than two septums, wouldn't you?

most platformers encourage you to kill some sort of small creature by jumping on it or hitting it just because it's in the way.

Take a closer look at Bioshock...
The game is about injecting yourself with dubious fluids & then seeing stuff come out of your hands & having everyone out to kill you.
Not to mention it encourages eating/drinking/smoking anything you find lying around...

Sometimes I wonder if our "enemies" are really our enemies. Kinda reminds me of Remarque's All Quiet on the Western Front.

I wish I had played persona 3 now, I thought persona 2's plot was good with you needing to stop these horrible demons that are possessing/killing/etc the people of your city, so to stop them you just constantly make deals with them until you have allowed yourself to be possessed by all of the most powerful demons.

But yeah, other than the games that paint you as being a blindly murdering sociopath from the beginning like your average stealth game (thief, assassin's creed, tenchu etc) I can't think of many games that aren't totally backwards, though I think fallout 2 did a good job of showing you some of the long term consequences of your not-so innocent actions when you beat the game.
