As science has shown us, Sequels kill franchises.

The only sequels that I have enjoyed are
Halo 2 and 3
Gears of War 2
Half Life 2, ep1, and ep2
Portal 2
L4D2
TF2

all other sequels blew ass IMO, and have ruined their franchises

Y no luv 4 AC2?

Seriously, you want a textbook example of a game sequel fixing just about EVERY problem its predecessor had, just look at Assassin's Creed 2.

OT: The original Star Fox. It's like trying to play a slide-show.

Doom.

Not any of the source ports, mind you. The original Dos Doom. A lot of features we take for granted now, like mouselook and strafing, were not present back then.

God, I tried playing Deus Ex, with the new game coming out, and I just couldn't do it. All the little advances that FPS's have made since then, are gone. The interface conventions, design, ...and other things I can't even name, but know are missing. It was just too much. I can handle bad graphics, and have enjoyed games that have aged terribly, graphics-wise, but Deus Ex just didn't work for me.

Also, I laughed when it warned me about its "cutting edge" graphics.

Tomb Raider and Resident Evil.

Gameplay wise RE is still fun and what not but any horror has long since gone.

You the master of unlocking should take this.

On that note: Fallout 1 and 2. The stories are great, the ideas are cool, but turn-based isometric RPGs make me contemplate death.
At the risk of being flamed, I'd have to agree. There's so much good in there, but actually playing the damn things was an exercise in self-flagellation.

Although, honestly, I probably wouldn't have had the issue I had with these games if I had played them at the time they came out. I've never been bothered by "aging" in any game I liked at the time, no matter how many years have passed. If I think something is broken in a game, I thought that way back when I first played it too.

Diablo 1
Not only the graphics, obviously, but the control scheme. It feels so clunky and poorly designed when compared to newer Hack and Slash games.I tried getting into it,I really did,but after the Butcher destroyed me and I realised I had to "farm",I said no.No Diablo, you were a great game in your time, but I do not want to put up with the clunkiness.

Goldeneye 007.

You try playing it without contorting your hand like your busy pleasuring all three of a triple cunted hookers vaginas at once.

Final Fantasy 7

I loved this game when I had my PS1 as much as anyone, but my recent attempts to play it i've just found depressing. Its not the graphics or the sound, they have a retro charm which I'll always appreciate, but the dialogue is just terrible most of the time, to the point that its often quite funny (particuarly the retardedly emotionally distant cloud early on). Obviously the story is cliche as hell, but thats FF games for you, and part of the charm....what can't be overlooked is a 2 hour flashback sequence which only has one save point, makes very little sense, and gets made totally irrelevant by later plot....i'm looking at you Kalm.

Also, how seriously boneheadedly dense was I when I was 13.....I mean seriously *that thing that happens* (you know, the one spoiler that everyone actually knows by now, but I'm still going to be coy about on the off chance that someone doesn't) is telegraphed for like 3 hours before it happens!

I'm throwing in Mass Effect. I love the game and it looks real shiny but after playing the 2nd one with the polish and the QTE's it feels like a total chore to go through fighting in the1st one. I know there is RPG debate over which one is better but despite the simplification it just feels nice to pull the trigger and see the gun shoot at what you are pointing at instead of some stupid behind the scenes math. Thats groovy with a more fantastical game but not here. Their forward thinking makes ME 1 feel more hodge podge to me.

That sucks though since I'm inevitably going to have to do it to get in various set ups for the last one :(

I tried Golden Eye 007 not long a go but I just couldn't get into it, both the graphics and the N64 controller give me the shits. I'll try again in another 2 years to see if I change.

I'm ashamed to say it but I couldn't play Torment because of the graphics. I really wanted to, but the pixels were hurting my eyes.
Torment gets extra points in that its graphics had this problem already when it was released... 640x480 worked fine enough for Baldur's Gate, but Torment's larger sprites made it painful to look at even back in the day...

I still loved it, and recently replayed it though, so YMMV I guess.

I find that many, many games become nigh-unplayable after an improved sequel comes out. You get so used to all the little improvements that you just get more and more frustrated with the original, as you reach for an option which could get you out of a hairy situation, but just isn't there. Age of Empires is a good example.

Most Star Wars games come to mind. Though it's only graphics, can live with that.

Good news, everyone! There's an unofficial resolution patch which lets you play almost every game made with the Infinity Engine with your desired resolution. I'm currently playing 'Planescape: Torment' in 1280x1080.

Deus Ex.

Good god, Deus Ex.
What do you mean? I recently played it and got into it with no difficulty. Great game. I don't care about graphics much, so those don't bother me.

The game controls great and the graphics don't get in the way of performing any actions. They don't actually look half bad in my opinion.

bye far deus ex its really hard to into because of it
Are you really that superficial? The graphics are sufficient enough to not get in the way of anything. The gameplay remains completely intact and is far more enjoyable then most games I play nowadays. In fact, it has so much replay value. I get engrossed in it because of the story and the awesome multi-path gameplay. Non-lethal ftw.
I absolutely love the story and graphics do not matter much to me. For me, it's the A.I. that aged badly in Deus Ex - understandable, because the A.I. wasn't really top notch those days in any game. I recently replayed it (first time I could play it without FPS stuttering I had on my old computer! :D ) and the opponents sometimes didn't see me when I was in clear sight or I just steamrolled them.

I still enjoy the game though.

A game that aged badly could be Sim City 4000. I only played it one or two times, but it looked and felt so much worse than Sim City 3000. It could be the graphics or the bugs, I don't know. Something felt wrong.
As a general rule, games with 2D graphics or sprites tend to hardly age at all, atleast for me. I think it's because the more 'realistic games' will be outdone by technology in a few years, and they'll look terrible. But my old SNES games still look very good to me.

Turn and menu based JRPG. Lacking the adrenalin punch administered by most real time games, these kids are held up mostly by their complexity. Gamers demand more complex JRPGs, so we get them, and the old ones are left with archaic gameplay. "Point gun here and shoot", however, can only change so much, and will remain fun until people forget what solid ammunition is.

Also Pong. Pong has not aged well, a truth it shares with its precursor, Tennis For Two.
