On the top of the list, I must place Halo.
Many people I've come across have forgotten that it actually DOES have a good storyline.
Also on my list: Pokemon. Its fun. End of story.
It was the only video game that permiated all forms of media to such an extreme. This fame among the game lay man has earned it much hate and a nebbish fanbase.
Also up here are games like DDR and Guitar Hero, for being an extreme example of the "Wally Wavedash" syndrome. Nothing ruins your fun quite like a trained pet spider.

Anyone else have a personal list they'd like to share?

World of Warcraft i reckon

and i agree with you on halo, cant beat being screamed at by a 10yr old using so many racist terms and profanities in one sentence that it loses what little meaning it may have had at the beginning

Super Smash Brothers

Those damn tournament fanatics keep limiting the game. No items, more than half of the levels banned from tournaments, I'd rather play Super Smash the way it was meant to be played. With items, and a good amount of unpredictability. Good thing Sakurai doesn't listen to his fans. Otherwise the only map in Brawl would be Final Destination v.2.

Halo 3, CoD4, all the other multiplayer games on the Xbox 360

Thanks to the kids, when people think of the Xbox 360, they only think about the butchering of the English language. Many games on the 360 have gotten unnecessary flak just because of its fanbase.

World of Warcraft
I played it for 5 minutes. I love the undead so I decieded to make an undead necromancer kinda guy. Looked a little bit cool. So I ventured out into the world. A friend taught me the confusing mission questing thingy. I thought it was kinda stupid but the quest I got was to go out and kill some kind of undead creature. I fought them for a little bit. Got bored sickly. Turned off the game. The fans didn't ruin the game, it ruined itself. The fans are the only ones who enjoy it. I like games like FPS's where I get full desisions and control in my attacks, not right click on them. That was pretty pointless. Everything in that game felt so off.

I played it for the better part of a month or so, then realized that a fair amount of players are 1337ist pricks, and if you made 1 mistake during a raid (OMG I DIED NOOB PRIEST) you were immediately chastised and half the party left. So I thought fug dis shiz, I'm going to go play TF2. And I've never been happier.

I dont think Halo 3 really needed to ruined by its fans. I bought it one week after its release and even I was dissapointed. Im a huge fan of Halo 1 and 2 but 3 promised much more than it delivered.

Still a decent game though.

i think Zelda is one, since ocarina of time the changes are not accepted very well, the majoras time system and the sailing with cel shading in wind waker come to my mind

Halo. How can a game NOT be ruined by such rabid fanboys?

Kid: "Halo is the best game ever."
Me: "No it isn't. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is much better."
Kid: "I don't even know what S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is, but Halo's better than it."

True story. Now, you may think Halo is better than S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but you can't judge without at least knowing a TAD bit about both games.

Halo is repeated here. True conversation between me and an aquaintance.

Me: Who do you think would win in a fight, Samus or Master Chief?

Him: Dude, why are you asking me that? Master Chief is way better than Samus. He would destroy her before she could even blink.

Me: Actually, I think it would be a fairly close fight. I mean, Master Chief is enhanced by stimulants and is obviously quite strong, but Samus has a speed advantage and is more agile than Master Chief. Between her screw attack and morph ball, she can be a hard target to hit. Besides, she doesn't die with a single rocket.

Him: Shut up, you're just a stupid Metroid fanboy. Master Chief is the best character ever made!

Edit: By "aquaintance" I mean "FOAF".

halo is way overhyped by it's fans and itself but it is kinda fun.

doa4 online has been ruined for me due to people using only hyabusya and hayate and doing the same 2 moves over and over again.

half life i'm just tired of hearing about, i don't so much care about the game AT ALL.

agreed, i've lost friends to world of warcraft so online games like it are kinda never going to condone that game.

my friend constantly talks aout kotor and while i don't begrudge him that i love to give him shit for it.

just to repeat "halo" for the 50th time, yes it is overrated.

from all the reviews of SSBB im really looking forward to it, but it was gotten so much attention that im worried ill be dissappointed. i think thats what happened to halo 3. to was so highly anticipated that it was more of a let down than a god-send

Halo: Combat Evolved is a good game. For when it came out, it was rather sophisticated. But yeah, the fans have over-hyped it severely.

I'll pass judgement on 2 and 3 once I get to play them.

It seems that the Half-Life series is getting to that point, but I think it has a much higher tolerance for that sort of thing because it is so good.

I see that you get the point of the topic all too well.
