Is it just me who's never encountered the Racist 12 year old online?
In before some wag responds with "It's never just you!"

Seriously though, in this case, it might be just you. They're not as ubiquitous as online-gaming horror stories would have you believe, but if you play games long enough online you WILL run into the racist 12 year old. And be HORRIFIED.
Hmm. Infact, Twice in the 2 years I've had MW2 have i even come across someone who uses a mic (On PC). I Have encountered them before though, Just playing ONE match on my friends Xbox and it's full of them! But surely someone must agree that nobody ever voice chats with Pc? Really on MW it's not really needed...

It's sad really, It's a decent game but ruined by the sheer amount of nobs.
I've only ever run into a few as well, it was just an example that popped into my head. On TF2 on the PC the dustbowl server I frequent after the F2P update had a large number of these types came in, luckily the mods sorted them out pretty fast. And MW2 on the PS3, while they aren't as common as on Xbox, occasionally I would run into them there as well.

COD MW 3. I fell for the hype and bought it. Single player was not all it was and I sort of regret it. It seems to me that developers are more intersted in marketing than producing a good game

Two Worlds

Remember all the hype? It was called the game that would destroy Oblivion. Then it came out and it was a joke.

Gundam: Crossfire

Before I get flamed for being a Gundam fan or being dumb enough to by a Gundam game that isn't in dynasty warrior form, I would like to say I mislead by the trailer.

Space Marine. Campaign is good but the Multiplayer fell flat on it's face after a month or so.

If a game gets enough hype then its not going to live up to everyone expectations..that doesnt nesseerially make it a bad game

anyway for me it was oblivion...first time I ever saw it was when I my ex was playing it..it looked rather unimpressive, like a more bland fallout 3

when I did get round to it..sure I spent a couple of hours on it..but in the end I grew sick of it..I tried to like it but I didnt

Dragon Age 2. While it wasn't really bad, there was just something about it. I rented it a while back, played it for a couple hours and then just didn't want to play it anymore. I couldn't really find out any problems with it aside from that it was just so boring and dull, and then I didn't touch it again until I returned it a few days later.
Of course, there's the many players who cite all sorts of issues and shortcomings with it and people who prefer DA2 to Origins seem to be an extreme rarity. While I didn't play the game long enough to come across these complaints, if that many fans of the series loathed the thing then something's definitely up.

Then there's Fallout 3. I loved it but after hearing about how open and sandboxy it apparently was I was kind of taken aback when I found that the game was just so...empty somehow. Way too many areas felt the same as did most of the combat.

Final Fantasy XIII,

All the bitching about it being linear and what not, if you ask me, all of it was pretty unjustified. FF13 was a great game and a great FF game if you ask me.
Agreed. I find it funny how many people complain about it being linear, when before people complained about the previous games being too open. Being too open is the most common complaint I've heard for every Final Fantasy game before XIII, so why the sudden 180 from the fans?

OT: Games that lived up to my expectations would be Skyward Sword, Catherine and the Mass Effect series.

Game that didn't live up to my expectations would be Dragon Age: Origins. Too much content with combat that made me either rage or yawn in boredom. If it weren't for Morrigan, Alistair, the dog, and Shale I probably would've given up on the game. Good thing Dragon Age II kept me more entertained.

I'll probably get executed for this, but I liked Dead Space 2's multiplayer. It's similar to Left 4 Dead and I love Left 4 Dead.

I remember Gamespot saying that the game was a "poor man's Oblivion". Still, I recently acquired the game for PC (as an RPG to play whilst I waited for Skyrim) and I found it to be quite enjoyable. I can pick faults and flaws but for the most part the game plays well, it's entertaining and a lot better than I remembered being on the Xbox 360.

OT: Personally, I found that Resident Evil 5 didn't quite live up to the reputation, I haven't been able to immerse myself in it like I could with Resident Evil 4. Once I finish with Skyrim I'm going to try and complete Resident Evil 5 in a few days time and see how I truly feel about it.

I was really iffy about dropping $40 on Fallout 3. I thought it looked too similar to Bioshock and that such a similar game wasn't worth that much. One time I was in Gamestop and it was on sale for $15, I thought screw it, bought it, turned out it was incredible.

Turns out unanimous approval is unanimous for a reason. Unless it's Call of Duty.

Also, I hated Dead Space. The scares were boring, the shooting was boring, the story was boring, the atmosphere was good, but not good enough to carry the incredibly boring game. Doom 3 was scarier, had a better story and was all around a lot more fun than Dead Space.

Dragon Age 2. I heard this game was a travesty, blashphemy against religion and a traitor to rulers around the world.

I enjoyed the game a hell of a lot more than i enjoyed DA:O. Infact, because of Dragon Age 2, i'm fully willing to play Dragon Age 3 (if there is one) where as because of DA:O, i really didn't want to play DA2.

I'm glad my friend lent me the game, because it was a throughly enjoyable experience. And this is from someone who alot of my friends think hates Bioware.

Games which were better than expected for me:
Batman: AA (pretty much came out of nowhere, played the demo and fell in love)
W40k Spacemarine (didnt expect anything)
AVP3
AssCreed II (sheer amount of activities was mindblowing)
RedDeadRedemption on PS3 (everyone tells you its ugly on PS3 but its not true)
CoD: BLOPS (SP story was kinda cool)
DeusEx3 (simply awesome)
Skyrim (same)

Games i wasted money on:
L.A. Noire (PS3) - not much to do than running around on crimescenes, city is a dead place
Rage (shitty gfx, boring gameplay, corridor shooter)
AlphaProtocol (lot of choices you can make ingame have no consequences or make no sense, stupid AI)
Mafia II - city is a dead place, cant shoot from cars wtf!
Kane&LynchII - too short, MP coop sux
Starwars TFU (Pc) - 30 fps cap & mouse lag, thx for nothing

Dragon age 2, went in expecting a massive amazing epic that improved all the errors of its predecessor, ended up with a game with decent combat, good story, and about 5 rooms in total. the amount of repetition was astounding. one playthrough was worth 5 of any other game due to the amount of repeat environments.

Mass Effect (I could barely be arsed to finish it), Dragon Age: Origins (I was expecting a better plot), Oblivion(bad, just ...bad), Witcher 2 (new combat sucked and there was less "witching" more politics), Assassin's Creed (I tried sticking to the plot but I just ended up jumping off of buildings a lot before I got bored)...

I'd add Amnesia if only because it didn't actually scare me but I liked it a lot regardless and still replay it.
Man... You really live up to Your profile pic...

Things that lived up to expectations: Starcraft 2.

I barely been playing anything else as of late.
