The question is quite simple: Has a game ever been so emotionally touching that you just couldn't hold the tears back? And why?

- Just recently I played through Bioshock 2, and to my surprise it was one of the best stories I've seen in a game so far. I would probably go as far as to say that I liked it better than the story in the first game, but I don't mean to start a flame war here, so I'll leave that for now. Regardlessly - I found Bioshock 2 to be so incredibly touching that I did shed a tear in the end.

Get the tissues ready, the sad face goin' and leave a response!

None.

The only time I came close to crying was when Johnson died in Halo 3.

*sniff* Why did he have to die!?

Edit: Oh, and the end cinematic for the Orc campaign in Warcraft 3.

I agree that the story in many ways was better, it was more personal and touching than the first. It didn't have the incredible revelation that the first did but I genuinely felt sorry for Eleanor and you, especially at the beginning when:
Sophia makes you shoot yourself in the head in front of Eleanor when you were trying your best to save her. The look on Eleanor's face was one of the most tragic (fictional) things I have ever seen.

That said, I have never shed a tear over a game, even if I have found them very sad. I don't cry very easily.

Seriously.

Not even close.
What the hell?
If books, films and TV programs can make people cry, then why not a game if it's done right?

End of KotOR 2, when I heard what happens to my companions.
It's not particularly sad or anything but... I don't know, that game just got to me.

none, i was sad when agro died but not close to crying.

I did almost start crying once when playing pro evo because I got really really frustrated, but still no tears.

Yeah, Homeworld gets me every time. Its expansion was very emotional too. Both games are lessons on how it should be done.

I don't have any moments where I actually CRIED over a game, but I was touched at 2 moments:
-In Riviera: the promised land, when Leda seems to have turned against you, but sacrifices himself to save you, revealing he has no emotions(had to give me up, long story, just play it, it's not that long), but still felt something. It was sad, because you feel like you spent too little time with him.
-In Okami, when mr. Bamboo's adoptive daughter revelas she knew all along, and she has to leave, leaving him behind, entirely alone(she leaves for space, stupidest thing ever, doesn't matter, play the game).

When I first beat Kingdom Hearts i almost cried, but fought back the tears because my mates were in the room. I was about... 10-12 or so. No game has made me cry since, and only one series has made me cry; that was Scrubs, at the end-ish of last year, when I saw the last episode (or so I thought).

Actually, I'm glad someone brought up Homeworld, because it reminded me of the ONLY time I can remember having an actual moment of being emotionally touched. However, for me, it was during the opening sequence with the mothership being prepped and undocked. No idea why, but it was just beautiful and sad at the same time.
