Bought a xbox 360 when fallout 3 came out, just because i was to lazy to order new computer parts, also bought a new tv for it. Since that game i havent realy used it much. But it sure was worth it at the time.
I kinda want to go out and buy a graphics card for my desktop so I can actually play upcoming games without too much lag. My processor is fine, my RAM is more than I need but I am stuck with a built in Intel chipset at the moment which plays most games pretty well but keeps choking on the newer releases.

Borderlands 2 is the main reason I want to upgrade my PC. Recently I actually wanted to get a PS2 just so I could play Kingdom Hearts.

Nintendo's franchises (specifically LoZ and Pokemon mostly) for the Nintendo consoles and handhelds. I was considering getting a PS3 just to play Heavy Rain and MGS4 but then my brother decided to buy one, so that solved that problem.
Exclusives, man. Can't just look at one series. Look at everything UNIQUE to that console.
Let's say you're a shooter person. You don't pick between a 360 or a PS3 because "omg I want COD." NO. That's stupid, since BOTH have it. You'd need to look at what each offers on it's own, like Halo vs Killzone and Resistance. (I'm sorry I don't have more examples for each side, I'm not a shooter person.)
This is why it kind of irks me when people say they love their console because of games X, Y, and Z, and they're ALL multiplatform. I mention it and ask about exclusives and they spaz the hell out on me, like what?
Point being, this is why Nintendo is still strong. They have good first party support.

I buy Nintendo consoles for the same reason everyone does: Mario/Zelda/Pokemon and all the other franchises like Pikmin, Metroid, Fire Emblem and such.
I got a PS3 because of the third party titles, and went with it over the 360 because of MGS4, Infamous and LittleBig Planet. Plus, no subscription fee, at least when I got it.

All of those used to be PS exclusives and all of them would have made me buy the console if I did not have it when the game came out.
Gran Turismo is the only console exclusive but unfortunatly for Sony Polyphony took so long and made such a MASSIVE arse of Gran Turismo 5 that chances of me buying another GT game are next to none.
Grand Theft Auto, well it's multi format Ill buy it for whatever one comes out first and has the best overall game, if that's PC then Ill buy it for PC
Final Fantasy jumped the shark with 13, again the game took too long to appear and was less than brilliant when it did get here.
On the other hand Borderlands 2 has just lead me to buy a new 670GTX so that I can play this awesomeness at max settings.

I bought a Gamecube for Resident Evil 4. Best decision of my life.

PS3 - Resident Evil 5 (to bad it didn't live up to expectations).
inFamous 1&2 along with Rock Band made it well worth the purchase in the end.
