- Shadow of the Colossus (I felt like an utter bastard for killing some of the colossi)
- Portal 2 (I still wish there'll be some DLC where we can save Wheatley, poor bugger, not to mention Cave Johnson's ultimate fate is rather tragic... and on the positive side, the turret opera induced tears of joy)
- Mass Effect 2 (Tali's Loyalty Mission, enough said)
- Journey

The Darkness when
Jenny dies

When Aerith dies in Final Fantasy VII. Cliché I know.

Persona 4
When Nanako seems to die

Rin's path in Katawa Shoujo made me tear up.

The ending of Final Fantasy X.

When Dom finds Maria in Gears of War 2.

Yakuza 3 when
Rikiya dies

There is many more I'm sure but that's just off the top of my head

ME3 Mordin.

Honorable mentions:

ME2: losing Legion, Miranda, Garrus, and Mordin.
ME3: Tali and Legion worst ending, EDI's final speech, Liara's time capsule, and Anderson's goodbye.
Bastion: basically anytime anybody started singing. Especially the end.
WOTLK: intro.

I tend to play the sort of visual novels that have tears (happy, sad, horrified, manly, etc.) as kind of an end goal, so listing them is probably cheating.

Final Fantasy VI is my go-to example in this case. I honestly can't think about the aftermath of the Ghost Train incident without feeling really uncomfortable. And every time I try to describe it to someone, I start choking up. In fact, I'm going to have to think about something else very, very hard right now. ;_;

I've never cried over a game.

That being said, I think the game that had the most profound impact on me was Silent Hill 2. What a horrendously tragic, yet amazing journey that game was.

Mass Effect 2 and 3, Red Dead Redemption, Both endings of Infamous 2, the ending of Castlevania Lords Of Shadow. Halo Reach, but that was nostalgia because I loved halo as a child and genuinely thought it would end with reach, so the last mission was like going full circle to me. On that same note, the music box level in Castlevania Lords Of Shadow, but only because it made me remember the old games and my childhood.

Every fucking time, as soon as Simple and Clean starts, I burst into tears. Haven't played the game in over five years, and it still hits me like a fucking truck.

Silent Hill 2 and Dreamfalls' final stretch may have gotten to me; especially SH2's closing monologue.

And I've commended Shattered Memories ending for striking a chord with that last exchange and quiet music.

My usual description for games like that is that they caused manly tears.
There was Nothing manly about the way I reacted to that ending.

I've always wondered if it was just me who reacted that strongly to that scene.
Yeah you're definitely not the only one. It was a very emotionally powerful scene.
I'm gonna spoiler this from here on.

It's so understated that the gut punch is even worse. It doesn't seem that glorified, it just sort of happens.
I think also it was more impactful because just a night or so prior I was relaxing laying on the couch watching tv with her.

Definitely set's your motivation. If you didn't want to kill that son of a ***** after seeing that, you most likely had a robot playing for you.

Yeah a gut punch is exactly how I'd describe it. It's even worse that you're just forced to watch her die, knowing you can't do anything to stop it. It makes the final moments of the game so much greater though. You really want to get your revenge and kill everyone involved as painfully as possible. Damn it was a masterful game.

I don't usually post here, but I saw this on the first page and had to see if anyone mentioned To The Moon, and wasn't very surprised when no one had. Good way to remind me why I don't post here.

Someone did mention Dreamfall though, so things could be definitely worse.
