I agree with you thee; the Orwellian imagery and themes, combined with the vague, but personal narrative, definitely has an unsettling effect.Akai Shizuku said:Does anyone here have any games that make you just feel uncomfortable when you play them?
For me, it's Half-Life 2. Don't get me wrong, I really like it, and it's a fantastic game, but...I dunno, when I play it something just doesn't feel right. Was that intended? Maybe it's the headcrabs...
So, what games make you feel uncomfortable when you play them?
I was about to say Dead or Alive Xtreme 2, but you're right. This game is about as devoid of masculinity and any redeeming value whatsoever. Goes great with that My Little Pony collection... eh....kenny2759 said:final fantasy X-2. its not that bad a game, but i'll never play it with my mum waching over my shoulder again :S
That among many other things. STALKER makes me feel powerless which, in a video game, is a strange, unnerving experience.XxScottocsxX said:S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl
Walking down that underground lab corridor to get to the surface when you turn around and "the controller" warps your vision. :S

Where you have to kill the old lady living by herself in the middle of nowhere on a tiny little farm. Then steal her birthday gift list. Then use it to track down and kill her family.
It's just... wrong.

The infamous "laughing scene". Imagine watching that with a family member in the room. I don't think any other video game has ever made me that uncomfortable.
Could you both provide a youtube link or something to these things? I've played both games but it's been a long while and I don't remember them.Kuhly said:Fallout 3 when i went out to find the audio tapes of that family so i can get the experimental mirve. NO MORE HEROES: Each time you fight a boss you are literally facing off against a symbol of American Culture, it just made you feel fucked up, especially at the ending which literally sets you down to the level of those who youve killed with a HUGE wake up call....coming from my remote o_oAkai Shizuku said:Does anyone here have any games that make you just feel uncomfortable when you play them?
