Two words: Katamari Damacy. I DEFY you to hate this game. It's just pure joy on a disc. I have family members who don't like video games at ALL who like this game, even if just watching me play.

And hell, this series has one of the best soundtracks ever. Seriously, I can just pick one at random, and get a winner.

Really, I just typed "Katamari Damacy Soundtrack" into Youtube, and picked that song at complete random.

If you don't mind my asking, what about it did you find so dull?
It was just a demo, but nothing about it seemed interesting, the characters didn't appeal to me and the combat system for example was terrible.
Well, 3D is pretty late in the series. So it makes sense you wouldn't care about the characters. Especially from this demo. It was a lackluster demo. It barely showcased any of what made it a good game. (Which, I guess might be hard to do with an RPG, really...)

I'll give you that the combat mechanics aren't the best, but it's an RPG; the focus is more on the plot anyway. The combat is better in the full game, when you can unlock more and better abilities to make fighting more varied and skillful. And it's good in terms of action-RPG standards, but still pretty shallow.

I don't want to seem like I'm fanboy-defending the game, but if you happen to have a PS2 lying around (or an older-model PS3), I'd recommend giving the first game a rent. Can't hurt, at least.

Poor production, muddy, dull and in dire need of people who are higher calibre singers than those you'd see at your average karaoke night. The whiny nasal verses are the worst of all, yuck.

Sorry, but it's bad from a technical and artistic standpoint in my honest opinion.
Well your honest opinion is wrong!

In context this song is absolutely brilliant, just play Persona 4, do it. You won't regret it.

If you have access to a PS2 you can pick it up really cheap off Amazon and the like. You could go for the re-release on the Vita if you happened to buy one for some reason but I don't recommend it.

ICO and Shadow of the Colossus. Some of my other favorite games, I can find some reason why people may hate them. But those two? Can't find anything to hate at all.

I have yet to play the original unfortunately. :(

I have played it's sequel though, We Love Katamari and I absolutely love it.

OT: Skyrim. It's Oblivion with MOAR. Sure it's built more for console players so there's more hand-holding but it's still MOAR.
I hate Skyrim, it feels like so much less than Oblivion to me. I like having stats.

Alpha Protocol.

People complained it was buggy and badly put together, I didn't see it as any of the sort.

It had great gameplay, an excellent story, great characters, massive replayability, plus it's the first RPG where you get to be a secret agent.

I don't get why critics consider it one of the worst games ever when I found it very enjoyable and quite functional. I don't think even Yahtzee raged on that game as much as X-Play, and that might be saying alot.

I'm less than fond... well, okay, I STRONGLY DISLIKE all the Katamari games, this one included. I honestly just do not see the appeal. Different strokes, though, I suppose.

A game I honestly can't see why someone would hate? I hear (well, read, really) people trash Dragon Age: Origins all the time, and it's not that the game doesn't have its problems, but the things people choose to point out as faults make no sense to me.

But a game that absolutely, positively, unequivocally, 100% love, and wouldn't understand why anyone else didn't? Portal, I suppose. Just the first, mind. I haven't ever seen someone bag on this game, but if I ever did, I would be so utterly confused.

Also: someone above mentioned the 2008 Turok. To that, I say... what?

Honestly, you don't really NEED to play the original. I'd suggest picking up Katamari Forever on PS3. It's basically a compilation of levels from every previous game (except for the PSP one). It's got all the levels from the first game on it, plus levels from Beautiful Katamari. I highly recommend it, it's one of the only games on PS3 I bothered to Platinum.

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.
I love that game. It's fun, you feel truly in control of the Force and it's fun smashing through hundreds of stormtroopers and leaving with hardly a scratch on you.

Are we talking about games people hate but we don't understand why, or just games we can't imagine anyone hating? I'm confused.
If it's the former the first thing that comes to mind is Alpha Protocol. The game wasn't groundbreakingly amazingly fantastic, but I loved it so much. Then not long after completing it I found out it wasn't particularly loved among the people that played it at all. And I really don't understand why. Some people say the game was bugged to the point where it was broken, but I never really ran into any bugs at all.
It did have some ridiculously glaring problems (that conversation system can go straight to hell), but overall I thought it was great.

Edit:

Persona 4. Now I have yet to find someone who has said the literal words "I hate Persona 4" so that's a good sign but I can tell that those people who dislike JRPGs are silently judging. I had no love for JRPGs either, I was pretty neutral on the whole thing. I wasn't gonna have a fit over FF VIII-5 The Revengance being released nor was I going to go on about FF7 being baist thing evar.

Basically the long and short of it is that Persona 4 transcends genre as far as i'm concerned. It's just that good.

I mean just listen to this:

TOO GOOD!

Maybe the Ace Attorney series qualifies... Depends on how boring you are I suppose.

"Nyyyyehhh real lawyers don't shout and point fingers! That's not the correct use of the word Objection! Why does Phoneix get bitched at for doing his job? Not finding anything in a Cross-Examination can't pin blame on the Defence personally! WHY IS THERE SO MUCH PHYSICAL ABUSE IN THE COURTROOM! THIS IS RUINING MY IMMURSION IN THIS SUPAH SRS GAEM!"
I've also yet to hear someone say they loathe Persona 4 (or the Persona series in general). What I have heard is that the opening for Persona 4 Golden on the PSV ruins the game for players new or unfamiliar with the game. I don't know; I knew about the Persona series and heard how awesome it was, but I wasn't particularly interested in it. Thanks to this new trailer, I not only want to purchase this game, but also Persona 3 and Nocturne. Hell, I want to start up and finish Devil Summoner 2.

OT: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game
Not too sure how much people disliked this game, but I saw a guy on Youtube rage quit this game after the first level on the easiest setting. A couple of things to note though: he was under the impression that he was playing a TMNT beat'em up (that why there's a Block button, Chief!), didn't seem very focused while playing, and he is notorious for rage quitting and throwing a tantrum if a game isn't ridiculously easy or obviously awesome.

Final Fantasy X .The last and the greatest Final Fantasy game, until Square Enix get their act together. Sometimes I see people complaining about it, but their complaints are so... shallow? Tidus laughing with Yuna for example, if that is your only complaint of the game then you have no leg to stand on to say the game is bad.
The story is just so good. Same for Kingdom Hearts.

With FFX, the combat was absolutely glorious, though the story was a hunk of shit (IMO) and THE FUCKING TEMPLES. It was the temples that put me off FFX, because I could deal with a few shitty voice actors and such.

Halo 3. Or Halo CE. Take your pick.

I was going to say Unreal Tournament like always but if someone doesn't put any mods or any custom content on it (If you haven't you REALLY should. The game was designed for it.) I perhaps could understand why someone wouldn't like it.

Journey.

The only reasons I hear people say they dislike it are because it's too short and it's not hard enough, which I think are weird nonsense reasons. Not every game has to be 50+ hours and a hardcore test of your manly strength. You just have to treat it like you'd treat a movie, in that it's something you sit down to enjoy for about 2 hours. Also, people who pull that "It's like Dear Esther, you just walk forward the whole time!" thing are completely full of shit and must have never played it. It may not have combat, but there's still exploration, stealth, minor platforming, and a bit of resource management.

Plus it's gorgeous, it has amazing music, it has the best multiplayer ever (no talking!), it's creative, it's touching, and it is the best use the Hero's Journey has ever been put to (why yes, I saw that Extra Credits episode too).

The problem wasn't a handful of shitty voice-actors. It was one particular character, who was played up as an exceptionally stupid, annoying, whiny prick. He's a spoiler 9-year-old trapped in a 17 year old's body...when the 17 year old has the voice of a small yippy dog.

And we were supposed to like him. I have no idea what sort of brain damage one must possess to find Tidus likeable, but not possessing the ability to hear in the normal upper frequencies of human hearing is surely one of them.

Honestly, I like him a lot better than, say, Vaan from FF XII, Hope/Vanille from FF XIII, Leon from FF VIII and, at times, even more than Cloud. The cast of FF X, and Zidane, from FF IX, are the only Final Fantasy characters in a while that seem able to display any emotion other than angst or EXTREMELY annoying 'zaniness.'
