I was playing Bioshock 2 today, and I kept pressing the wrong button for whichever weapon I wanted to use at the time. It got me thinking that if it was for the WiiU. The touchscreen could list the available weapons and plasmids, so I could just touch whatever I wanted.

Can you think of any games that could majorly benifit from the WiiU's innovations?

Sims/Simcity.

IT WOULD BE FLAWLESS THINK ABOUT IT

But EA is a dick about things (or was that another company? I just assume EA is dickbag due to very obvious reasons)

Nope.

Mainly because they are not so much innovations as just trying out something new that does nothing to improve gameplay. HAs anyone really ever looked at the standard controller and said, you know this thing isn't really working out for me. The controlllers arent broke so it begs the question of why nintendo has been trying to fix them for two consoles.

Metroid Prime 1/2/3 (?) - Use the pad screen for scanning, and the dual analog sticks. Can't remember much of Metroid Prime 3, but pretty sure it still had scanning.

Lock-picking mechanics might be interesting. Using your fingers instead of picks.
Fatal Frame could have you using the gamepad insteead of the camera onscreen.

That's a really good point... But I think the point was if the Wii U Gamepad could make any game just a bit, well, easier. I don't think many games that are on other consoles could be improved just because you have a gamepad for the controller. I agree with you on this, just because you have the gamepad... Doesn't always mean it'd be an improvement on certain games in terms of its gameplay. I gotta say it'd depend on both the game and the person playing it to consider if it's an improvement, or just a slight gimmick.

Lots of people have looked at the standard console controller and found problems with it (Which is why we still have people playing games with mouse and keyboard, rather than hooking up a controller to their computer). As j-e-f-f-e-r-s pointed out, the pad offers much better control in an RTS that the two analog sticks.

I think that a lot of tactical squad-based games could benefit from it as well. For example, the TV is the main first/third-person view of your character, where you control it like a regular shooter, while the WiiU pad has a top-down view of the battlefield. With a couple quick taps, you can send a specific soldier or squad to a location, rather than having to get out of cover, put your cursor on the place where you want them to go, select the squad (either limited to 4 on the d-pad or needing a mini-menu of it's own) and then give the order (again, either limited for quick access or requiring you to go through a menu).

I think a lot of that has to do with people (like me) just being used to a mouse and keyboard. Plus I don't see them getting anywhere close to fixing the accuracy issue with controllers any time soon. Aiming with a Wii was easier than trying to move to said exact spot with an analog stick (leaving out any sort of aim assist), but then actually looking around with a Wii was much more difficult. Mouse still seems to be the most accurate and fastest there (at least for me).

I hear that the new Monster Hunter game used the touchpad well. I remember on PSP sorting through the inventory was a pain in the middle of battle, so hopefully this clears things up. Well, when I say 'NEW' game, that doesn't really apply...

RTS games would benefit from a touch screen, obviously, but beyond that...

FPS games would still be better on PCs thanks to mouse/keyboards, Third Person platformers/shooters would function almost identically, Driving games would also be pretty much the same...

Other genres could use the touch-screen, I guess.

There's adventure games, which would pretty much not use the TV and therefore defeat the purpose of being on a console, but would control rather well.

Sports games could use the touch screen to enact strategies and tactics - say, use it as a map in a Football game to plan out your team's defence.

Indie games could really use the touch-screen in innovate ways, but then they always innovate so we won't count them. :p

RPGs could use the touch-screen for menus and inventory management to avoid cluttering up the big picture on your TV, or possibly planning combat a bit better.

There's possibilities, but it's tricky to see them being major game-changers or really revolutionizing genres.

That's something I can go for.
Inventory systems are really one of the major things that can be improved due to a touchpad.
They are one of the down falls of traditional console gaming, think Skyrim if you had a good Menu, this will allow it.
That said, I'd still like to see the "new" Monster Hunter game come to the Vita too.

None. I'll elaborate on my answer; developers (or their publisher taskmasters) can't be arsed to properly port anything to PC and sadly, all we get on PC now are said lazy console ports. The WiiU has a unique feature (how useful or worthwhile that feature is is a different debate) which requires coding a game specifically to be taken advantage of. Therefore only WiiU exclusives will ever make full use of it; no major 360/PS3 game will use it, or at least not to any good degree.

The extra graphics horsepower is also gone to waste, just as my super graphics card is. Devs make shiity, 7 year old games so they run on a 360 with pathetic RAM. This also will not be changed on the WiiU. As has been the case for the last handful of years, ancient console hardware is holding back games development as EA/Acti/Ubi only create games for the lowest, common denominator and then port it to the more capable hardware platforms.

Which is why consoles are overflowing with quality RTS games, right?

How about city sims? I'm sure consoles must have loads of city sims, what with having such perfect controllers.

MMOs? You can play WoW, TOR and Guild Wars on consoles, right? What with controllers being so perfect and all.

How about dem FPS games? The fact that console shooters have to use auto-aim, aim-assist and numerous other gameplay tweaks shows just how perfect controllers are, doesn't it?
Im pretty sure that it isnt the controllers that are keeping mmos off of consoles. Console controllers are perfect for shooters, never understood why people don think so. As for the RTS games ive moderately enjoyed the ones that are on the consoles, but why should we make a hiant controller when the only benefit is limited to a single genre of topdown strategy games. WHy not make it a periferal like the original wiis classic controller. Just because it could help in some doesnt mean it should be required for all. ATM the controllers are probably as good as they are ever going to get, personally PC gaming is a novelty to me. A controller is just so much more easier, your hands fit around it perfectly, you always know where the buttons are without looking and it is just all around easier. Whenever I play games on the Pc i always use the controller because it is better in my opinion. Then again I was indoctrinated on controllers so I suppose it is opinion, but honestly is having all of the buttons spread out over a flat surface better than having your hands curved around something with with the buttons always in the same place. Its easy to hit the wrong button without looking on pc just by accidentally returning one button to the side so your hands are at esdf rather than wasd. That can never happen on a controller.

As others have mention, RTS, or Turn-based. Fire Emblem on the Wii-U with High production value would certainly be welcome considering how well the latest 3DS game is doing. A Sim City port could be good, but EA is on the verge of economic suicide. So I wouldn't hold my breath. Anything that has a lot of options and buttons and a need to move across a screen quickly.

ZombiU shows FPS's would work well, MarioU boost mode shows that 'painting' things onto the game could work pretty well, so Okami and Scribblenauts comes to mind. Retro Studios is working on something 'everyone wants them to do' apparently, so that says a new Metroid First Person game. Retro would do pretty damn well with this feature. Scanning with the game pad in real time, aiming with it or selecting different weapons or using the controller as a map...etc.

This thing breeds interesting ideas more well than I think the wii did. Seems to be going smoothly so far, looking at the releases. I want pikmin 3 desperately.

I really can't wait to see the new Deus Ex gameplay for one thing. It would be interesting in, if not this installment but the next you can keep tabs on the cameras you have hacked via the gamepad as a sort of second-person point-of-view to help keep track of guards.

Anyway...Sandboxes would definitely be made easier on the Wii U by virtue of slapping the map on the gamepad (like what they did with Arkham City, Deus Ex and, Spider-Man). I would think that Square would want to put Final Fantasy XIII in part or in whole on the U if only to show how the pad can be used for the gameplay part of the game while the TV is left 100% clear of any HUD information, which would maximize the cinematic aesthetic Square was obviously going for with XIII.

I feel like I pitched this before in another thread but an ambitious 3D Pokemon title could potentially be made for the U. The TV would have a sort of Ni No Kuni/Dragon Quest look while the gamepad had a top-down perspective similar to that of the GB/A/DS/3DS Pokemon RPG titles. Like with the square example, the gamepad would be used to select attacks during battle and items, TM/HM's etc leaving the TV free of HUD info and allowing Pokemon Unlimited or whatever to look like an actual anime is playing out on the TV.

I mention those last 2 paragraphs because everyone else took the obvious answers ie: Sim City, Starcraft 2, Diablo III, X-Com: Enemy Unknown and, World of Warcraft and/or, Star Wars: The Old Republic.
