Not that you're wrong in any way, but packages that sell at normal retail value but have more content often sell the best. If Shenmue 3 came out by itself, it would be flushing a company's money down the toilet.Acrisius said:Problem is, it's a bad investment. Nobody would flush their money down the drain, which is what they'd effectively be doing if they funded a new Shenmue-project. Or at the very least, they'd be playing Russian roulette with their reputation and cash. Quite sad really. One of the best and most revolutionary games of its time, to the point where it holds a special place in my heart, and yet so forgotten and underestimated.brenflood said:Oh, I know. It was called Shenmue online, and looked dreadful.Acrisius said:Hey, didn't see your post there!brenflood said:I still want Shenmue 3. I mean there were obviously plans for it given how both 1 and 2 ended. I'm sure the Dreamcast dying and SEGA kind of dying played a role in this. However, now SEGA is just teasing me with the trailer for their stupid Mario Kart clone featuring Ryo Hazuki.
This might only be me, but I seriously think no game before or after Shenmue has achieved better story telling, and I want to know how the story ends... even it just gets released as a script, novel or graphic novel (in english since I now it is based on some book in Japanese).
There were also rumors of a Shenmue-MMO lol. But the damn Dreamcast shouldn't matter, Shenmue II was released on Xbox... =/
Someone else on another similar thread mentioned the idea of a Shenmue trilogy/ complete edition release. I honestly think that'd be the best move if it were to come out since not everyone had a dreamcast or xbox.
However the value alone of getting 3 Shenmue titles for $60 is astounding, and since Shenmue 1+2 have already came and gone, they are kind of considered lost causes as far as making profit goes.
I mean three shenmue games on one disk is like Orange Box level bargain. So it would have really good selling potential. However, I agree that fi you're in this for profit, Shenmue is a bad idea sine the first two did so poorly. I do think that a lot fo that had to do with what console they were on, the timing, and the fact that neither had a satisfying ending. If I had tons of money, I would happily throw it towards this project just to see it finished, but that's more of a personal desire on my part.
