Maybe if u had to beat the game to get fast travel.
By beat the game I hope you mean just the main story line. Doing all of the missions and THEN getting fast travel after you've done/found everything might make me sad.

So it could be like in Uncharted 2 how you have to beat the game to unlock all of the guns. But those are a luxury. In the case of Bethesda games, has fast travel become a luxury or a necessity? I don't think I would have tolerated Oblivion very well if I couldn't just warp back to the Cheydinhal after doing a Dark Brotherhood quest on the other side of the map.

Any long JRPG that doesn't have fast travel. Seriously, name me one JRPG more than 12 hours long which does not have fast travel and would not benefit greatly from its addition.
Chrono Trigger.
Chrono Trigger has fast travel. It has several different kinds. There are the pterodactyls in the caveman era, and the upgraded Epoch later on.

The Epoch is a fast travel system any way you look at it. Not only can you quickly travel to any point on the map, you can quickly travel to any TIME in the game.

Chrono Trigger would suck without the fast travel it has.

Oh god I hated having to walk everywhere in that game. I think the worst had to be the Bloodmoon expansion. You seriously had to walk across the entire map almost every quest, or even to get to the only town...

Mercenaries 1 could probably use it. Does saints row 2 have fast travel? I don't think it does. It should have.
Mercenaries 1 could have used one, but at least once you gain access to the scout helicopter from the black market, getting around is a lot faster.

Infamous? PROTOTYPE?! You think these games, that feature superheroes, that parkour their ways through the roofs of their cities and can fucking glide, need fast travel? How odd...

I'd have to say Far Cry 2, but then again, I found the whole game to be so bland and boring that a simple fast travel wouldn't solve anything... Also Morrowind!

Assassin's Creed 1.
It does have it, doesn't it? Plus, I enjoyed running through the mountainous areas.
Yeah, later on, after like the first 3 assassinations, you can warp between the cities.

Fallout 3. Obviously, there's fast travel once you've discovered something, but you could definitely do with a vehicle in that game. =\
it'd be convenient but what is convenient about a post apocalyptic world =/ a vehicle would be nice but just not fit into the game, not to mention the roads are destroyed and who knows how a 200 year old hunk of junk would handle off-road

The closest thing to fast travel is the helicopter, but after crashing three choppers into a Phone line while attempting the same landing, I've given up on helicopters in that game.

Please tell me that there isn't a fast travel function that I missed because I'm oblivious...
I remember using a taxi to get to every mission

I usually did that myself.

I apologize, I believed that in the case of this thread fast travel was assumed instantaneous travel to a location. Under that situation, Chrono Trigger would not need it.

As Chrono Trigger's traveling already stands, it works very well.

I can barely think of one that doesn't have it that needs it or does have it and doesn't.

I mean...even final fantasy had fast travel once you got the flying ship in them. Since you click on a place and it gets you there in a matter of moments.

But they do tend to be slow in the beginnings if that is what you mean.

I just wanted a cheasy super mutant hulk sized mech suit :). Maybe have me walk at 3-4 times my normal speed. With chain gun on one arm and optional extra attachment on the other.

Doesn't have to be a car, I was thinking a bike or quad would be cooler.

Far Cry 2. I thought that it would be the first thing people would say.
Yea, this. Far Cry 2, otherwise known as Blood Diamond: The Game, was about 20% gameplay, 80% driving across the map to your objectives.
I found it to be more like 10% relevant, plot-furthering gameplay, 20% driving places, and 70-75% getting out of the god damn car and dealing with the idiots that follow you in cars or wait for you at the checkpoint stations that you have to spend 10 god damn minutes and half of your syringes every single time. Christ, that game was frustrating

Twilight Princess and the first Assassin's Creed (well, the first part) had obscenely long travel times.

I cannot think of many others, though.

Morrowind.

During Daggerfall this was considered a feature. If you wanted faster travel, you bought a horse.
Yea, I've played it.

I mean, the Silt Striders (Morrowind) are fine to an extent, but heck I just want to warp places that aren't cities too.
I felt that the fast traveling in Oblivion made things a bit too easy and discouraged actually travelling over all that nice terrain. Then I played Morrowind and missed fast travel desperately. So maybe a compromise? I was thinking of a gameplay mechanic that only allowed you to travel within a certain radius around your character, and that took time to recharge. That way, you wouldn't be stuck hoofing it the entire way, but at the same time not missing all of the places that you wouldn't find otherwise (plus, leveling up in athletics is always good).
I think the Fallout 3 system works pretty well. You have to walk somewhere the first time, and then you can fast travel.
