Alan Wake, after playing it - would fit as a tv series/film.

They even play it out like it is.

There are so many games that would make amazing movies as well, but if I had to name games that, if pressed to be one or the other, should be movies instead?

...I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Demigod. Many of you have never played it, okay. Google it. It's a DotA ripoff with a much limited hero selection. No, there isn't really a plot. But there's a premise. Demigods duking it out to fill a now-vacant major deity slot. Bland gameplay, but (in my opinion) very nice character design. Give each Demigod a personality, pick one as the protagonist, or hell, make up a mortal hero to throw his lot in. Maybe he wants to rise to power and become a benevolent god. Maybe he just wants to stop the catastrophic war between the demigods. Who knows? Easy script in any case. Throw in alliances, broken alliances, subterfuge, and judicious use of special effects and massive battle sequences and you have an awesome action movie on your hands.

Probably gonna get some hate for this, but Metal Gear SOlid 4. There are so many cutscenes in that game, and most of them are long enough, that you could have just cut out the gameplay and made it a movie.

I think the "God Of War" series made for good games (only played the 1st) but, if done right, could make a pretty sweet movie.

Actually, many of the cutscenes are over an hour long, and there's a lot of cutscenes, so you'd probably have to make it into a trilogy.

OT: Uncharted 2 could've been an Indiana Jones movies (a much better one than 4) but it's a game, which is also fantastic. It's a win-win, really.

Modern Warfare I and II would've made really good action movies if they just touched up the plot a bit.

Mirror's Edge. The cinematic preview of that game was so much better than the actual gameplay. It might have worked as a movie though, if they added a little more depth to the plot.
I thought it was a fun game, and I'm actively waiting for the sequel. It would take a lot of padding to the plot in order to make it into a movie, as the plot was basically non-existent.
Fully agreed. I had a lot of fun with it.

Also throwing my hat in with the "Heavy Rain was awesome" field. I loved that it was a Video Game.

I guess I could say that Batman: Arkham Asylum could've been one of those awesome Batman: The Animated Series films. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 (was a comic yes) would also have been awesome as a Justice League-esque animated film. And lastly Borderlands should've been real damn it! Having the choice of going to another planet as a bounty hunter...that'd be epic!

That's actually a really good idea, but I think League of Legends would fit the criteria better. Demigod would be a war fantasy, LoL would be a sci-fi fantasy.

Just Cause 2 shouldn't of been a game, it should of been a Michael Bay Movie. They made it a game anyway though.
WHY?

JUST
CAAAAUUUUSSSEEEEEEEEEEE
Lol, I could definitely imagine that.
Well if it had like a 2nd director, like a co-director, to handle the "boring parts" it might be great as a movie.

Metro 2033 should have been a book. Oh wait.

No, seriously, the Lost game should have been made as webisodes or something. Metal Gear Solid 4 should have probably been a series of CG movies. Same goes for Final Fantasy XIII.

This one's hard. I've always held games much higher than movies, because Hollywood these days is nothing but one bloody big action factory. The good (European) films, on the other hand, that have the idea and the plot are designed to be films from the scratch. As a game it would not work, simply because of as a director you are in control of what you let the viewers see and can make the movie be just the work of art you need.

Works vice versa too. Games that use the interaction between the man and the machine to their benefit are those you think as Art (ICO). Taking that aspect away would take away the heart of the game. So changing the medium would either ruin the game or change it into something unrecognisable. We have seen how it happens. I'm looking at you, Boll.

That said, I would love to see L4D2 made into a movie. It's too chaotic as it is - it would really use a good, tight script and better pacing. Plus it could feature the Midnight Riders.

Be fair, no one would wipe their arse with that shit.

OT: Isn't the MGS4 gameplay:cutscene ratio (in minutes) like 1:45 ? Could have been a hexology of films.

Brothers in Arms would have made a good mini series... tho there already is a crap load of war movies and stuff like it, so i guess it doesn't really count.

District 9 would have made a great game tho if the story was picked up by the right team.
