Bioshock 2. I thought Bioshock 1 was tedious, and I didn't have any investment in the world or the characters at all. I didn't like the combat either. I grabbed Bioshock 2 as it was £5 and I really wanted a shooter - and finished it in a single 10 hour session interrupted only by a quick break to eat. Now I'm pretty damned excited for Bioshock Infinite. :)
I loved bioshock 1, but they definately improved on everything in the 2nd. Combat, puzzles, hacking, adding plot, characters, plasmids, the atmosphere.
Bioshock 2 was my game of the year for 010.

Ditto Mass Effect 2.

Heavy Rain made me lose respect for any game David Cage will make in the future. He's a hack, and his arrogance and self assuredness make it a certainty that he won't get any better.

My huge fanboyism for Hideki Kamiya was tempered by Okami and V-Joe as well as Bayonetta being a slight dissapointment.

Tim Shafer made one of the worst dowloadable games I've ever seen (costume quest) and if he continues in that direction then his brand is dead.

Tales of Vesperia

I didn't really have an opinion on the Tales series before this, since I'd never played any of it. Never got around to trying Symphonia (why Gamecube? why?), and Bamco always seemed to license them at random. Still, I got ahold of Vesperia and gave it a try.

And lo, it was glorious.

Mass Effect 2 made me lose faith in Bioware's ability to make an RPG.(...) Dragon Age 2 is still solid,(...).

Mass Effect 2. One was boring as shit up until you were through with about 70% of the game, but playing ME 2 made me go back and beat ME 1 just so I can use a save file. I'm sorry, but an RPG where its all talk for more than half the game with nothing being done is boring as hell.
Some people, like myself enjoy that deep kind of character development. The writing for ME2 was lacklustre at best and just made way for killing and looting.
Also, Mass Effect wasn't that bad. You're overexaggerating.
The bulk of the talking is on the citadel, once you leave there it's fine.
but I'll agree that the Citadel gets tedious after a while.

I honestly did not start enjoying ME 1 up until the assault on Saren, before the entire Citadel battle.
To each their own.
I loved it once I got out the citadel and became a spectre.

Fair enough. You enjoy ME 1 and I shall enjoy ME 2. Perhaps we will meet in ME 3.

Nothing has really ruined a series for me yet. I guess Fable. I really, really liked Fable 1. Fable 2 pretty much ruined all of that. I never even played Fable 3.
Same here, only I did play Fable 3. I found it to be the best in the series.
