There were only two games that was a real kick up the croch. One being kingdom hearts, of all the most stupidest concepts concieved it ended up being one of the best games i owned. Then came MW2, i though all cods were mostly ww2 based and were the same thing, but when all my teammates went to MW2 i fallowed suit, only looked back in annoyance.

It turned a marvelous game, a *wonderfully* deep and interesting game. Into one of the most rage inducing things I'd ever seen. What the hell happened? Did the writers suddenly say "You know what? I just don't give a shit anymore." and knock off to get drunk? Did the developers stop and say "You know, this is a great game....we need to mix in some of that oblivion mediocrity, just so that people don't complain about it being so different from our usual style of games."?
Please explain the deepness of the game because I don't see it.

And to answer your question, no the writers didn't say "I don't give a shit" at that point, they said it when they first started writing the game.

Too Human surprised the hell out of me.

When it finishes, I was left wondering where the rest of my game went.

Probably AC1. I was told by so many people how much it sucked, but I found myself REALLY enjoying it despite the obvious faults.

Bioshock also blew me away. I hadn't heard reviews or even seen trailers for it when I got my copy, but fuck I was not expecting THAT.

For worse...hmmmm...every Final Fantasy ever? XD I keep getting told how AMAZING they are and I just find myself bored the entire time.

Mass Effect series.

I came at the series in full skepticism gear. I knew practically nothing about the plot besides it being space related, but nevertheless I felt that if it didn't cure 10 kinds of cancer, I was gonna be disappointed.

Hot diggity, did I see the light.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I was sad (and surprised) at how boring Ocarina of Time was. Everyone kept saying how Twilight Princess was soooo inferior to OoT, but I don't see it. I enjoyed TP immensely. :(

Fallout 3 was a pleasant surprise for me. Let me break down why I didn't expect to like it.

1.) Bethesda? Ew, didn't and still don't like their other games.
2.) Real time? But...but fallout is turn based.
3.) First person shooter-esque? Blech, shooters are so main stream (/hipster) But ya, not an FPS guy.
4.) East Coast? But I liked actually recognizing the places that have been blown up.
5.) Nostalgia Factor. I was flat out convinced that the atmosphere of Fallout couldn't be done by games today. When I was younger blah blah blah nostalgia.

Five reasons I should have totally hated Fallout 3. And then I played it, and it was glorious. Bethesda captured the feel of the old Fallouts quite well.

Unpleasant surprise was New Vegas. Even though it came back to the West, it somehow lost the feel. The incessant bugs were also a big blow to the all-important immersion that the series can create.

The side missions can be very complex. The main quest? Not so much.

I suppose I should say 'It was deeper then Bethesda's normal stuff', instead of simply 'deep'.
It was also very easy to immerse yourself in it.

Yeah, the writing was pretty much crap, but it was at least consistent and you got the sense that they were trying. Then suddenly at the end (in my opinion at least), it took a nose dive straight into "How can we make money off this?" By making a shitty ending that would be 'fixed' by buying their special 10 dollar DLC.

We'll have to agree to disagree. It was even more immersive than FO3 in my opinion, and while the bugs were annoying, they were fairly quickly fixed, and while its not a good business practice to let/make the fans patch it, there were on day one, fanmade patches and mods that fixed 9/10 problems.

Add in Mods like Project Nevada, who continue to add even more depth and mechanics into the game, and you have a marvel.

Unless you got it for the console. In which case, God help you.

For Better: Pokemon Black/White

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Pokemon fan, I was just afraid of what the new game would be like. To my surprise, there was a lot to like - the change to the EV Training mechanics is a welcome one, and I did like a considerable number of the new Pokemon (up from 10 in the previous games).

For Worse: Dance Dance Revolution (PS3)

I don't mind the music, I really don't - it's the new gimmicky mechanic that implores you most annoyingly to get a perfect combo through a section of the song. A section of the song where they suddenly make all of the notes the same color so as they fly up the screen you have no chance to really register exactly when to step. I've missed many simple third notes or sixteenth notes because of it.

The Witcher 2 managed to surprise me both ways. The prologue and the first act surprised me by being excellent, far surpassing my expectations. But then the second and third acts surprised me by being terrible. By the time the finale rolled around, I just wanted it to be over so I could move on.

Also, Mass Effect. I had never even heard of Bioware before playing that game. I went in knowing nothing beyond, "It's set in space", and, "It got a bit of flak for having a sex scene". I remained skeptical for quite some time. Then Wrex and Liara showed up and the game suddenly turned awesome.

Reminds me of another.

The Witcher managed to surprise me in all the wrong ways.

Geralt, is supposedly some sort of badass master of armed combat. So why is he holding his two handed sword over his head and waving it like a little kid pretending to be in a sword fight?

He leaves his front exposed, all because they tried to make him look 'badass'...When it makes him look like the worst fighter in history.

Add to that a confusing system that never explains anything, and I got turned off, quickly.

Say I'm too focused on how things look, but that...idiotic fighting style just made me want to smack him, and tell him to stop being an idiot and fight intelligently instead of just by waving his sword around like he has nerve damage.

Funny, I was the complete opposite.

a few come to mind.

KOTOR: Let's just say because of this very game, i became very much intrigued with the whole Star Wars genre itself.

Deus Ex: Invisible War, that game should have never been made imo :(.

Mass Effect 1&2
I had heard people raving about this game, saying it was practically one of the best games they had ever played. So i went into the game thinking I'd love it.

..And what I got, was nowhere near expectation. the combat was flawed, the coverbased combat was boring, the game was filled with some horrible bugs, and the game treated everything Shepard said as if he had fucking brainwashing powers; he could say something anywhere from simple to bland to batshit stupid, and then the other person would react with "yes, I see you are right (even tho you hardly said anything influential)! i will quit my career of puppy-kicking and become a nun!" (not exactly, but this illustrates just how the people will completely change who they are for no good reason just because Shepard says something to them)

now don't get me wrong, it was a good game, and i might eventually get the 3rd when it comes out, but it just really wasn't as fantastic as it was made out to be. Some of the story and sidestorys were pretty interesting, and it did at times have some actual character development , and I like how you can have some effect on the storyline(even if at times its only a stupid choice of if you want to be a good person or a complete dick). But all the flaws really took away from the experience..

Assassins Creed series. I was terribly bored with the first game (I only played about 1/3 of it), and AC2 blew me away.

Dragon Age II. I pre-ordered the game about as soon as I could and, most incautiously, I paid the whole damn thing off at once. Then I saw the developers' diaries and marketing hype and I thought I was going to hate it. "Think like a general, fight like a Spartan!" Really? Goddammit. Frank Miller and Zack Snyder are the Devil's testicles.

Then I played the demo, and was cautiously optimistic. It was certainly more action-oriented than the original, but the clunkiness and ridiculous spacing problems were gone, and it just seemed to play a lot better in general. I was still concerned about how many RPG elements were going to get harvested in the "streamlining", but I was reassured enough to not withdraw my preorder and lose out on the attached bonuses.

When the game came out... I was surprised that I wasn't disappointed. I actually loved it. And then I was surprised AGAIN at how much some other players hated it! Man, what a strange journey that's been.

I'd have to say Alpha Protocol. Considering all the crap it got when it was released for an 18$ game tucked into the corner of my local gamestop, I'd have to say it was well worth the cost.

I'm not a big fan of Rockstar's Games but god dam Red Dead Redemption was a masterpiece! If I could I'd would take a screen shot from almost any part of the landscape, frame it, and put it on my wall.

Portal, I bought the game expecting my mind to be blown and to see all other games for the rest as time as crap in comparison, I was disappointed.
