So, I tried playing Haze the other day and I was genuinely surprised that I could get my douchebag squad-mates to go kill crazy by shooting the Necter-thing on their backs. It surprised and pleased me and was the most fun I had playing that game for however many minutes. It's a small detail but I'm surprised it was put in at all.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine was also really good for a movie tie-in game. The fact that it was based off of a shitty movie makes it that much more impressive that the game was so good. I need another copy though...

Sequence, I bought it in a steam winter sale a couple of years back just because it was $2 and an easy achievement to get another free prize steam was giving out. My god the story and soundtrack were both spectacular and it's one of the few games I have 100%ed

Sins of a Solar Empire

I saw it in Best Buy and I figured it looked cool enough but I didn't expect much. Let's just say I didn't sleep much that night.

Journey, i had heard good stuff about it but actually playing it.
it's less of a game and more of a enchanting experience.

Dawn of War. I was expecting something between piss poor and halfway decent: like previous licensed 40K games. I wasn't expecting one of the best games of the decade. It took the things I liked from RTSs and made it so much more brutal looking.

A marble game for the Wii called Kororinpa, I rented it expecting it to be OK. Ended up being fantastic. I mean, it's not a perfect game, not even really worth 60 bucks due to lack of content, but it's such a fun time waster. Other than some minor camera issues, the gameplay is very fine tuned.
