Ace Combat 5
5 was balls, the music in that included puddle of mud so i can't se it holding up well.

Ace Combat 04 on the other hand, is timeless.
You're allowed your own opinion, but I still say it's wrong. Maybe it's the whole "Demon of Razgriz" thing, maybe it's the sentimental value, but I still think that 5 is the best in the series. Blaze > Mobius, Scarface, and everyone else. Also, Ace Combat 6 didn't happen.
5 had a far too whiny, anti-war story to be truly badass. also so many of the levels were flat out annoying, having to rely on ground based AI. Although it does have it's redeeming features - sinking the Hrimfaxi was epic.

Personally i think i'm a little bias against ac5 because ac04 is one of my all time favourite games.

Also, ace combat 6 didn't happen and have yet to properly play zero.

Without a doubt, Morrowind. That game set a bar for flexibility in roleplaying, one which I have not seen since.

I never saw the plot as anti-war, I just saw it as riveting. When you know who died (can't do spoiler tags cause I'm on my phone) it was the first time I cried due to a video game. It was the first game I really connected with the characters.

The Neverhood: Some impossible puzzles, but nonetheless, a fantastic point and click adventure game. Great art style, quirky setting, and a great ending.
Man, I really should have played this game when it came out. I can't think of any good reason I didn't.

Final Fantasy VII (let the groans commence)
Shadow Hearts (I love this game despite the graphics of the cgis, I actually think they add a little macabre charm to it even. I have played this game it it's entirety 12 times so far, and no new gen game really connected like this game did to me.)
Megaman X4, X5
Sonic the Hedgehog 2, 3 and Knuckles
Super Monkey Ball

Even though it copied it's game mechanic from Narbulac Drop
I like to think of it more as an homage than a copying affair.

OT: Personally, Morrowind: The Elder Scrolls, a gigantic ballbuster of an RPG.
Ticks all the right boxes for an eternally enduring game, Oblivion ain't got nothin' on Morrowind.

Final Fantasy 9 and Metal Gear Solid are the two most amazing PS1 games, in my humble opinion. I still enjoy playing them to this day.

Fucking lion in that city...I ran for half an hour before I figured out what to do.
Fucking ninjas.
P.S. to rokkolpo: It is actually a dog. if you stand down on the stairs where he cant reach you, you can get a close up look at him, and he looks like a pug.

I won't say anything obvious such as pacman or tetris. Lets go with starcraft.
That's what I thought too but I went back after about a month of playing sc2 and tried some ol' brood war and man has it aged... sad days

Master of Orion II : Battle at Antares

It's still on my HDD even now, after nearly 15 years... when a game that old still makes me want to keep it around long before support for it has been dropped and I still play it occasionally... that's got to say something, no ?

I play multiplayer mostly though, and not that often nowadays, not for the lack of enjoyment, but the lack of synchronized time for the "regular crew" I usually play with (jobs and kids tend to muck up your gaming time badly).

I'm sure someone's said it, but warcraft 3. The graphics are at that stage in 3d that even though they don't look great, they look passable today, whereas I've noticed that people trying to play diablo 2 or the original starcraft today have a lot of trouble dealing with the graphics, because it comes from the point when 2d was starting to look really cluttered and it made the visuals a lot harder to work with. Honestly, any game that has a fun and simple game mechanic and simple but decent graphics will last forever, whereas games like crysis will kind of lose their appeal once a prettier game comes out.

Unreal Tournament 2004.

As good now as it was ever, if not moreso thanks to all the mods it has!

these games are so basic and fun that they will survive through the generations.
There are 2 of my answers (Pac-Man and Tetris) and I'd add Millipede/Centipede, Donkey Kong and Jr. and Q*bert (the unsung hero of the early 80's arcade scene).

Deus Ex. Its story, atmosphere and mechanics aren't subject to the teeth of time.
Maybe so, but it's awful gameplay has made it so that I can't get past the subway part near the start.

OT: Kinda like what I just said, I don't think entire games can hold up forever. Technology and gameplay advances, and they are left behind. Sure, certain aspects like story can always remain as good as the day the game came out, but other aspects will almost always get left behind. Sure, you have some like Tetris or Snake that, due to their simple nature, don't really age a whole lot but that doesn't mean I wouldn't much rather play, say, Team Fortress 2 or CoD over them. If you want to make a game that will "stand the test of time" beyond a decade or so, you'll have to sacrifice a lot of features and, really, it's not that worth it.
