So many of these games would make awful movies. Think for a second about what a movie is.
It's in between 90 minutes and 130 minutes. (Unless you're the Godfather 2 or Schindler's List)
A game is anywhere from 6 to 60 hours (Unless you're Portal or an FPS, then you're anywhere from 3 to 5 hours)
Movies are non interactive.
Games are interactive.
Movies (or at least good movies "IMO") need a consistent tone.
Games (Action Games anyway) are opposed to consistence in tone.
EXAMPLE TIME: Bioshock has a serious story line, but you can get shot 45 times in the chest then heal up by eating a chocolate bar, and if you do happen to die you'll just pop back into one of those restoration chambers and be no worse for ware.
Think about Mass Effect playing quickly it's possible to get through the story in about 12-13 hours. You have a length problem already, where do you trim?
Eden Prime
Become a Spectre
Find Liara
Find the Prothean Cipher
Find the lost Mass Relay
Vemire
Find the Conduit
Final battle
What to trim? I can tell you one thing right now Garrus and Tali are out because they're not vital to any of it. And would you watch a Mass Effect movie with out Garrus or Tali? I wouldn't.
Portal has the appropriate duration but is watching a silent protagonist solve puzzles really a good movie. You know maybe, if David Fincher did it.
Left 4 Dead is another one that might work if it weren't for the tonal marry-go-round. IE death meaning getting locked in a porta-john 50 yards away
Heavy Rain or Indigo Prophecy are as close to movies as games could get, but they run for about 10 hours.
In order to make a good videogame movie you'd need where the plot and all the character and atmosphere building can happen in around 2 hours without feeling rushed. Which would be a hard job.
Many attempts would come out like the sixth Harry Potter movie. Just fine as a movie but abysmal as far as adaptations go.
the Prince of Persia movie was good but it wasn't really a Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time movie, now was it? It was similar, but it had next to nothing to do with The Sands of Time game except for the Dagger and the main bad guy.
But that's the thing I don't want an "almost adaptation" I want to see a direct translation of Jak 2. Yes Jak 2
So if I ever believed that they could do a good job I'd love to see Jak 2
But the one I think would turn out the best is Portal. But you'd need the right director and the right actress. You'd need someone who could convey the proper emotions of "Okay, I'll go through the course and get my cake" to "Why are there live turrets blocking my path" to "There's not any cake is there" all with out speaking. or at least not talking very much. The performance would at least have to earn her an Oscar nomination.
TL: DR Portal could possibly be done well
