Do you guys know any games that might make good movies. Even terrible games that would be better in movie form?

In my opinion Dragons Dogma makes a great basis for a movie. The whole mindless pawn legion fighting alongside the main protagonist while he constantly switches around different pawns for his party and eventually battles the Ur-Dragon.

I mean they have street fighter based movies. Which seems odd since they don't have much of a plot but many great games have amazing storylines.

Also the movie "Jumper" would make a fun beat em'up style game, don't ya think?

Wasn't there a Jumper tie in game way, way back? It got bad reviews all round from what I remember. Unsurprisingly.

I hate the way Pawns are mindless in DD actually. I like to inject some personality into my main pawn at least.

I would love a BlazBlue anime. One with an English dub would be better because Hazama's English voice is just godlike. And Noel's Japanese voice is so, so grating. You thought the English battle quotes were annoying at times? Ohhhhh you have no idea.

As good as the story is, there's several points where someone, usually Terumi throws every single plot word and new ones at you within 5 text boxes or less. I understand what most of the words mean on their own but mashing them together makes me want to bash my head against a wall.

What's a Master Unit? What's the difference between a Master Unit and Murokumo Unit? Wait why does Mu-12 refer to herself as Kusanagi when Kusangi is the name of her sword? What's Amaterasu exactly? Why is Terumi so intent on destroying it/her/him so far as he creates Mu solely for that purpose? Don't even get started on Cauldron/Black Beast/difference between a Nox Nyctores and an Armagus and how they're made. Any difference between a BlazBlue and the Azure Grimoire?

The movie wasn't exactly great, but this sort of story would be perfect for a game. You play Christian Bale in a post-apocalyptic Britain who has to protect the survivors in order to rebuild civilization, and it culminates in having to slay a massive dragon.

Front Mission series would make an awesome movie or TV series. It has interesting setting with all those Super giant nations, so there's a lot of space for political plot, and it also has FREAKING GIANT ROBOTS! What the hell else could you possibly need?!

Mass Effect could also work, but NOT as a direct adaptation. TV series about some spec ops unit during Reaper wars or a movie about First Contact War would work fine.

Also, for longest time I've been coming up with plot for some sort of Persona TV series with live actors in American setting. So, the main hero is basically female protagonist from Persona 3: Portable, but older. She moves, for one reason or another, to some little town in USA. There she meets her future crew, that consists of female tattoo artist (Priestess), easy-going student (Magician), anti-social programmer (Hermit, who will play support role), local police detective with father issues (Justice) and Lisa Silverman from Persona 2 (Chariot. Her presence makes sense because TV series will take place in Persona 3 and 4 timeline, so Persona 2 never happened and Lisa and her dad returned, or never have left USA). Velvet room will be decorated as Theater balcony, with Theodore as an assistant. Also, the way heroes will summon their Personas is by putting on corresponding Arcana masks, this will go along with whole theater theme. And that's all I came up with so far. I know, that's silly.

There actually was a Reign of Fire game for the PS2 & Xbox years ago. It wasn't that well received though. I never played it, but it did seem to have some ideas though.

On-topic:

Movie to Game:

Vantage Point. Multiple perspectives of a presidential kidnapping, including the bad guys' perspectives? Hell yes.

The Raid: Redemption. Brutal, violent Pencak Silat forms with plenty of non-stop action & some shootout bits? Hell yes. 30 floors of it with full fight controls (joint locks, breaks, dual wielding, environmental fights & group fights) alongside some co-op moments & boss battles is definitely a sell.

Assault on Precinct 13 (2005 Remake): It's like a zombie survival game in a precinct, except the zombies are highly trained SWAT guys with SIG-556 SWAT rifles, helicopters & strike teams to kill you in a tightly enclosed place. Add drop in/drop out MP & we have something. Would have to be a kinda smaller title tho.

Red Dawn (either original or remake): Do it like a mix of Freedom Fighters, Battlefield, C&C: Renegade and MAYBE some Homefront: Large, open battlefields where actions in one location affect things in another (eg. destroying helipads prevent choppers from deploying), alongside being able to steal vehicles & use them as you wish & a squad command system that allows for up to say, twelve fully customizable rebels alongside you to battle. Add in a drop-in/drop out co-op to this, alongside MP that combines TPSing with RTS inspired choices (capturing certain buildings allows for certain things, like new vehicles, armor, etc.) & you have a serious contender.

Olympus Has Fallen: Before I start, yes this was just Die Hard in a different coat of paint. That being said, a third person stealth action game like a mix of Splinter Cell: Conviction & Stranglehold, with violent hand-to-hand combat, intense gun battles, & tension-filled stealth would definitely be a good game. Have an open-ended design to the objectives alongside intelligent AI & we have a game. Bonus points for allowing the initial siege of the White House to actually be a playable segment from different perspectives.

Game to Movie:

Call of Duty. Surprisingly, the Operation Kingfish thing made me wonder if a Call of Duty movie would work. Center it around say, pre-MW2 or something in Russia, or incidents leading up to Black Ops 2's futuristic parts, & you have a film. Or even better, whatever happens to Makarov's people or the Shadow Company (American bad guys) post MW2 & 3.

Mass Effect. If done as a Rise of Shepard through the ranks & with other "cast" members, we have a film. Include some hot steamy alien sex scenes as well, along with plenty of humor & character moments.

The Saboteur: A lone Irishman becoming the hero in a Nazi-controlled Paris, mainly for revenge reasons? Hell yes. Provide plenty of stealthy bits & action, along with romance & a good bit of slapstick comedy & we have a film.

Battlefield: Bad Company. Do it A-Team style with plenty of personality, humor & of course enough action to put Arnie to shame & we have a film. Parody the whole military action thing well & you have both in one. Have the U.S. military chase them down with some serious slapstick undertones to it...

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier: Surprisingly, this might work out if the advanced tech is put on display, alongside a plot that pits Americans vs Americans in a morally-questionable story with action a plenty & a main cast that'll deliver the goods. Bonus points for some seriously creative ways to use drones, stealth camo suits, Magnetic goggles & the tech that was in the trailer (shoulder-mounted & fired rockets that can destroy a tank) & still make the battles seem borderline impossible to survive.

I don't think any direct adaptations would work, but here are some I think would do well if they simply put it in the universe and kept the ideas, preferring to expand on its universe rather than simply wallow in what we already have or make a drastic break from it:

Mass Effect. It wouldn't be good to follow the trilogy, but following events that occurred alongside it or before or after the events with Shepherd would be enjoyable.

BioShock. Setting the game before and/or during the civil war and following a character like Diane McClintock, Bill McDonagh, or Sulliven would be excellent in expanding on the ideas of the original game while not completely screwing up the universe. Characters like those three were in a position to fully explore Rapture and the ideas that Jack had to explore, and you find their audio diaries throughout the whole game. Not to mention, their own personal lives--Diane's tragic surgery and subsequent struggle to deal with who she's become, Bill's rise to power and eventual fall in rebellion, or Sulliven's detective work both at Neptune's Bounty and for Sander Cohen--could be used for some parallels to the overall philosophy of Rapture. Of course, I hardly expect anyone with a budget to even try to go that deep, but it is still fun to think about.

Call of Duty. Let's face it, people only like the singleplayer for the excellent set-pieces. That makes it perfect for a movie adaptation.

Mario. OK, yeah, I know they already made a crappy movie, but it would be humorous if they played on the idea that Mario and Luigi are people from Brooklyn who got sucked down a toilet pipe and into the Mushroom Kingdom. Think of all the hidden drug references and reactions to the effects of the fire flower. This, of course, would be more for humor than for action or deep meaning, and if they're subtle enough, they can implement the more mature jokes to appeal to adults along with the children it would be obviously aimed at.

Zelda. Doesn't need an explanation at this point.

As for movies being made into games...Well, I can't think of any recent ones.

Lemme see, lemme see...

Games that would make great/good movies:

Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong Country, Adventure Island, Metroid and, Legend of Zelda (give these to Pixar or do what they did with Halo Legends ie: a collection of short stories, not at all connected with each other and made by different production companies)

Games that would make So-Bad-They're-Good movies:

Any. Fighting. Game. Ever. We know this works because of Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat 2 and, Double Dragon (I know, it's a beat-em-up). Speaking of Double Dragon, River City Ransom would make for a great action-comedy.

Movies that would make great/good games:

...I got nothing

Normally, going by the precedent set by all prior attempts, I would say any game->movie or movie->game is inherently doomed to be either utterly terrible, or be mediocre at best, with the possible exception of Spiderman 2.

However, 1 game I think would work as a movie would be Borderlands. The plot of the first game was pretty simple to the point of almost not existing and the over the top guns and action would make a decent enough popcorn flick. Most importantly though, the film could do what the first game didn't; give the protagonists personality.

That film was great, the only 'superhero' film I've actually liked. Didn't see the end though, shame.
OT: Far Cry 3 maybe for a good film? Mass Effect series would make a great TV series, 1 series per game maybe?
I still think a Mad Max-esque survival game would be great. Or Book of Eli, both potentially would work in the same universe.
How about the Hangover as an adventure/mystery game ;D

Ive always been of the opinion that the movie the butterfly effect could be a good adventure game, maybe not the movie itself but something with a similar premise IE the main character can go back in time change small details in a location or on himself in order to make doing whatever he is doing easier.

If you liked the movie then you will love the book because its basically that with better writing, plot, characters and pretty much everything. I hated the movie the only thing kept from book to movie were character names and the main guys jumping abilities.

OT. book of Eli would make an interesting fallout hardcore mode style game, maybe a bit more linear though. You have to traverse all of america in order to find civilization on the west coast. How could they incorporate the twist ending into gameplay though? Hmmm

Alien vs Predator 2 for the PC would make a pretty good movie.

For starters, it's pretty much the only AvP game that has a coherent story that actually flows well, fits together, and you can easily chart a timeline from it. Beyond that, however, the story is actually pretty good if you ask me. Next is the fact that both AvP movies thus far have - for reasons that escape me - been set in the Predator universe (present day) rather than the Aliens universe (futuristic out in space). Setting the movies on present-day Earth is one of the biggest reasons that no one (except die-hard AvP fans like myself) like the AvP movies. You need to take it to Space and give us some Space Marines!

Pokemon Movies ---> game

I know you're thinking "But Blink, there are already plenty of pokemon games"

No no no, I reply, A game which is actually like the movies/TV series where you can tell your pokemon to jump or to hide in long grass or to just belly flop a smaller pokemon and you literally have to use your brain instead of just over-levelling your pokemon.

Seriously, someone watch a pokemon fight in the episodes (Preferably the older ones) and try to tell me it wouldn't make a fun ass game. I don't care that it's pretty much impossible to make, JUST MAKE IT SOMEONE!!!!

Sucker Punch. Would make a great horror survival game. If it was made kinda like silent hill 1-4 . It has all the elements to work better as a game than a movie .

That actually sounds really cool. Like, you could make it so humans don't have the inbuilt translators they do in the games so you could have the Turians clicking away in their own language and make things really tense.

As for a game that would make a great movie, Assassins Creed without ANY of the future sections. I understand that there is going to be an AC movie next year I believe, and the only thing I see setting it back is the future sections. I believe it's been stated that they're basing the film off of AC1, which means that's 9 assassinations that they have to cover in the span of 1 and a half to 2 hours. Right now I can't see how they can fit all 9 assassinations and the future sections in a span of time that movie goers would be willing to sit for. Maybe they can pull it off, maybe a few things will be changed, all I know is I can't wait to see what happens.

Full Throttle, Monkey Island(pirates of the caribbean sucks.), Deus Ex, Fallout, Bioshock and The Dig, which was going to be a movie and was originally conceived by Spielberg but it was insanely expensive at the time and became a game.

Personally I think mass effect and several bio ware games are trying hard to be movies so.....
I think game of thrones has the possibility to make a decent game but as translated from the books rather than the tv series.
I think games that come from movies try to hard to exactly represent them and blow their budget using the likeness of the actors etc. Though I am not entirely sure that's exactly the way it goes but movies turned games are seldom very good.
