The movie wasn't exactly great, but this sort of story would be perfect for a game. You play Christian Bale in a post-apocalyptic Britain who has to protect the survivors in order to rebuild civilization, and it culminates in having to slay a massive dragon.
There actually was a Reign of Fire game for the PS2 & Xbox years ago. It wasn't that well received though. I never played it, but it did seem to have some ideas though.
On-topic:
Movie to Game:
Vantage Point. Multiple perspectives of a presidential kidnapping, including the bad guys' perspectives? Hell yes.
The Raid: Redemption. Brutal, violent Pencak Silat forms with plenty of non-stop action & some shootout bits? Hell yes. 30 floors of it with full fight controls (joint locks, breaks, dual wielding, environmental fights & group fights) alongside some co-op moments & boss battles is definitely a sell.
Assault on Precinct 13 (2005 Remake): It's like a zombie survival game in a precinct, except the zombies are highly trained SWAT guys with SIG-556 SWAT rifles, helicopters & strike teams to kill you in a tightly enclosed place. Add drop in/drop out MP & we have something. Would have to be a kinda smaller title tho.
Red Dawn (either original or remake): Do it like a mix of Freedom Fighters, Battlefield, C&C: Renegade and MAYBE some Homefront: Large, open battlefields where actions in one location affect things in another (eg. destroying helipads prevent choppers from deploying), alongside being able to steal vehicles & use them as you wish & a squad command system that allows for up to say, twelve fully customizable rebels alongside you to battle. Add in a drop-in/drop out co-op to this, alongside MP that combines TPSing with RTS inspired choices (capturing certain buildings allows for certain things, like new vehicles, armor, etc.) & you have a serious contender.
Olympus Has Fallen: Before I start, yes this was just Die Hard in a different coat of paint. That being said, a third person stealth action game like a mix of Splinter Cell: Conviction & Stranglehold, with violent hand-to-hand combat, intense gun battles, & tension-filled stealth would definitely be a good game. Have an open-ended design to the objectives alongside intelligent AI & we have a game. Bonus points for allowing the initial siege of the White House to actually be a playable segment from different perspectives.
Game to Movie:
Call of Duty. Surprisingly, the Operation Kingfish thing made me wonder if a Call of Duty movie would work. Center it around say, pre-MW2 or something in Russia, or incidents leading up to Black Ops 2's futuristic parts, & you have a film. Or even better, whatever happens to Makarov's people or the Shadow Company (American bad guys) post MW2 & 3.
Mass Effect. If done as a Rise of Shepard through the ranks & with other "cast" members, we have a film. Include some hot steamy alien sex scenes as well, along with plenty of humor & character moments.
The Saboteur: A lone Irishman becoming the hero in a Nazi-controlled Paris, mainly for revenge reasons? Hell yes. Provide plenty of stealthy bits & action, along with romance & a good bit of slapstick comedy & we have a film.
Battlefield: Bad Company. Do it A-Team style with plenty of personality, humor & of course enough action to put Arnie to shame & we have a film. Parody the whole military action thing well & you have both in one. Have the U.S. military chase them down with some serious slapstick undertones to it...
Ghost Recon: Future Soldier: Surprisingly, this might work out if the advanced tech is put on display, alongside a plot that pits Americans vs Americans in a morally-questionable story with action a plenty & a main cast that'll deliver the goods. Bonus points for some seriously creative ways to use drones, stealth camo suits, Magnetic goggles & the tech that was in the trailer (shoulder-mounted & fired rockets that can destroy a tank) & still make the battles seem borderline impossible to survive.
