I bought the Orange Box for Xbox in 2010, and I bought the Valve catalog this year. I bought Painkiller this year. I got into Halo a year after Halo 3 came out.

I am..."that guy" who's always late to the party.

Well Portal I guess, if you can really say I got into it. I checked it out just to see what the fuss was about and yeah it was pretty fun and had some interesting new mechanics that I'd not seen before, but I wasn't blown away by it. Probably had something to do with the fact that the Internet had already killed all the humour in it for me long before I got to play it for myself.

Freelancer, though I have yet to finish it. I keep getting to a point where my piloting skills can't compete with even the easiest missions, which sucks, because I love the rest of it.

Mass Effect 1 & 2, only got Mass Effect last june for me birthday, loved it so much went out and bought ME2 the moment I finished it.

Silly thing was I'd nearly picked up Mass Effect 2 when it came out, but thought the front cover was so lame I didn't bother!

System Shock 2 - The year before last.
Fallout 1 and 2 - The year before last.
Bloodrayne 1 and 2 - this year.
Mass Effect 1 - I didn't buy until after ME2 was out, it was the constant discussion of it that led me to buy it.
Max Payne 1+2 - This year as they were in a sale.
Deus Ex (first one) - Last year.
Portal - I can't recall how late I was to it, but it was pretty cheap in the Orange Box.
Bioshock - I played it about 8 months after it came out, a miracle I hadn't been given spoilers.

Dark souls
Half life series

And I must say its about time you picked up dawn of war, and make sure to buy winter assault and dark crusade (and maybe even soulstorm if you feel like ruining your game)

I am only just playing through the Metal Gear Solid series, I beat 1 & 2, both excellent games and I am waiting a bit before starting 3.

I was suprised how much I enjoy the series, Solid 2 gets a bad rap sometimes, but I really like the story and the strangeness that came with it. I think it was a good move to make Raiden the main character and see what its like to have Solid Snake as a supporting character, yet somehow still pretty much the main character.

I am also about to start playing Dead Space, I haven't played it before...I hope I can survive it.

Baught a ps2 game some time ago, mint condition at a kmart if you'll believe it.

Ripped it open, played it like a beast. Year later I hear you can sell it for a few hundred bucks on eBay cuz it got really rare and popular. Though i never personally checked it's worth cuz like hell I'd sell a game this fun.

Capcom's "Beatdown -Fists of Vengeance-" for the curious.

Inever grew up with Metal Gear Solid while alot of my friends played the original as a kid, my first MGS was number 4 which conveniently came out on my birthday so I picked it up after school. Now it is one of my favourite franchises

If I remember correctly, League of Legends came out in 2009.

I only just started playing it more seriously (under NerfedFalcon come join me) and I suppose that's why I keep getting my ass kicked. Well, so it goes.

Half Life I played just before;

Half Life II and Portal I played on an orange box I found in a 5$ bargain bin.

I didn't play the original assassin's creed until ACII came out.

Skyrim was my first Elder Scrolls game.

Beyond Good and Evil I played on the PS network.

Ico and SoTC I both played via the HD re-release.

I played Mass Effects 1 and 2 in anticipation for Mass Effect 3, which I played upon release.

Psychonauts I got for free from a "post your leftover holiday steam sale" last January.

I'm currently about 3/4 the way through finishing the Persona 3 FES game I just obtained, and plan to purchase Persona 4 as well.

System Shock 2
Well, you're lucky. I've been dying to play this for the last 5 years and I still haven't been able to do so. Wish they'd put it up on steam or GoG or something.
If you find a cheap disc version, get that. I ¬_¬aquired¬_¬ the game a month or so ago and went to the fansite. They have made a mod that lets it run on modern computers, as well as fixing a ton of bugs. The games brillient by the way ^_^

OT: Gonna have to say deus ex and red faction. Bought both outta the bargain bin for ps2 after liking invisible war. Only got red faction because it was the only decent looking game in the deal. Was not ready for the awesomeness of both :p

Starcraft. Only just started playing it :p

Looking forward to getting the second one, it looks like a ton of fun, I watch Husky and Totalbiscuit casting all the time.
If you're looking to get into Starcraft 2, I highly recommend the casts of LAGTV. Most of the time, they don't talk about the game, or the battles, or Starcraft, but they're still damned funny. I mean, hell, I've never played a game of Starcraft in my life, and I love them to death.

As for the actual topic, I picked up Deus Ex: Human Revolution several months after it was released when I saw it on sale at GameStop. I have yet to finish my first playthrough of it, though it's easily one of my favourite games ever.

A slightly different situation occurred with Resistance 3. I, much like every early PS3 owner, had played Resistance: Fall of Man, which is still an awesome game that has held up very well. When Resistance 2 came out, I was nonplussed by it, and thus did not get it. When Resistance 3 came out, though, I actually watched gameplay trailers, played the multiplayer beta, and generally became excited.

Being the Aspie that I am, however, I could not play games 1 and 3 in the series without playing 2. Thus, I bought 2 & 3, and played through the entire series starting at Fall of Man. Overall, I'm glad that I did it, but . . .

I'll just say that I learned the hard way that Resistance 2 was a piece of crap game. I powered through the campaign on Hard and never touched it again.

God, what was Insomniac thinking . . .
