I want to admit that i have never played games like DOTA,LOL,TF2,Minecraft,etc. I don't know exactly why i have never bothered to play these games inspite of their immense popularity.Maybe its because they lack a story.Yup that's definitely it.They all lack a proper story or plot that would want to make me keep playing.
You see when i was a kid i used to play games like Mario,RoadRash,Crazy Taxi, etc which didn't exactly have a plot but i never cared i just wanted to have fun.But now i only play games with a structured narrative. If a game does not have a narative of some kind i will skip it.The only games which are exception to this rule are racing and sports games.Even when it comes to indie games i will only play games with a story. Arcadey games no longer get my time. They no longer interest me.I want to experience new unique stories in every game i play.
So i want to gather your opinion on what do you think of my habit and are there particular kinds of games you just won't play for some reason?

Play whatever games you feel like really. I don't care. Personally, I've never cared for DOTA or LoL myself either. I just don't like them. Which is a shame really, because my friends all play LoL and I swear it's all they ever fucking talk about (and it's ALWAYS in this stupid, internet-lingo; with words like 'gg', 'scrub' and '420blazeit').

Japanese games in general.

Yes, I know it's unfair. No doubt some of them are really good. Shadow of the Colossus was sweet, Dark Souls, for all my many many issues, did have a certain something and Vanquish could have been fun if not for a few crippling design flaws.

But for the most part I just see anime aesthetics, too-cool-for-school characters dressed like fucking rodeo clowns, horrendous dialogue (which, to be fair, might have something to do with translation) and horrible voice acting.

...

Yeah... I'm gonna make some friends with this post.

Just about any sports game. I just find them dull, though not as mindbogglingly tedious as watching a real life sports game. If I want to play soccer, I'll round up a couple buddies and go out and play some soccer.

I did kinda like FIFA 98, mostly because we always pretty much turned the ref off and focused on tackling each others teams into oblivion.

JRPG's intimidate me and I really don't have the time and patience, so I generally avoid most of them. I did play 10 minutes of FFXIII, if that counts.
[Insert snarky joke about how FFXIII isn't a "real" JRPG.]

Eh, it's different strokes for different folks.

I don't doubt some people will jump on you over that, but if those are your preferences then that's that. Though I feel I should ask if you also dislike Okami, Sonic the Hedgehog, Megaman, Monster Hunter, Dead Rising, Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid... er, yeah. I mean, it certainly wouldn't surprise me (especially Metal Gear Solid, which is basically an anime in the form of an American paranoia video game), but it would be interesting if you don't like or don't care about all of those games simply because they come from Japan.

OT: Competitive shooters.

Single-player or co-op, or even horde modes against AI I'm perfectly fine with. But there's just something about PvP that I've never really been a fan of. It can be fun, especially when playing with a group of people you're comfortable with, but I'm terrible at it and it seems far more likely to make people rage when they're losing compared to something like a PvE raid in World of Warcraft.

Any game reliant on a developer's server, so basically MMOS. I'm not putting time and money into a game only for it to disappear in ten years.

Must... Resist... Persona 4 rant. JustplayPersona4okbye

Right now on to business :D

Minecraft because me and creative toy things have a horrible relationship. I still can't draw 3D shapes on paper so 50 story masterpieces of mansions can fuck off.

Also RTS games like Starcraft because multitasking is impossible. Suddenly look at my base and there are 2 tank units that have been sitting there for 5 minutes unnoticed >.>

Dead Space was this for me until last year. When some of my firends told me that i should TOTALLY try it, I was like 'Gee, another of those stupid shooters this pair of graph-lovers have bought this month'. It took me 2 years and a steam sale to pick it up and try.
Oh boy, was I wrong.

I don't foresee myself ever playing Payday1/2. I work in the financial industry so the premise of the game doesn't sit well with me. I also don't see myself doing any competitive multiplayer only games. I've tried some....and really liked the concept but with some sort of story or narrative to keep my attention, I quickly become bored. I only have fun when meeting up with people I know and playing as a group.

Well, I refuse to play Rapelay. People already think I'm weird enough, y'know? I don't need another investigation into my personal life.

There aren't any types of games I actively avoid, but I don't think I've ever enjoyed a straight sports game except NFL '93 on the Mega Drive. I've also never bought one myself.

I will not play sports games. Do absolutely nothing for me.

Zhukov, as far as not liking Japanese games, the way you described it, it would appear you do not like the general AESTHETIC of japanese games, and not japanese games in general. Considering you said you enjoyed shadow of the colossus, which is of course a japan developed game.

1)Any Mafia related game or a game that is set in that time period. I just don't like it.
2)Lately, any sand-box or open world game. I tend to really enjoy it for a first couple hours or so, but then I just lose my interest. I do love big games, but I prefer them to be a little bit more linear, more focused.

Haven't tried it. Been meaning to actually. I think there's a HD version on PSN.

Sonic the Hedgehog
Didn't play it as a kid so it's just another platformer to me.

Ditto.

Monster Hunter
Bleh.

Dead Rising
Bleeeeeeh.

Resident Evil
Ble... well, actually, I guess RE4 gets credit for popularising over-the-shoulder third person shooting and thus rescuing us from fixed camera tank controls. At least i think it was RE4 that did that. Could be wrong.

Silent Hill
Err... I find them interesting but severely dated and not much chop in the horror department. I imagine I'd have liked them a lot more if I played them when they were new.

Metal Gear Solid
Mate, do not even get me started.

I'm not going to even attempt to play The Last of Us, Monster Hunter games or Dark/Demon's Souls, not after that hype. I did the same for Infinite, it was a crap experience. I did the same for MW2, Halo: Reach, Mirror's Edge.

Basically I hate buying games because of a desire to see whether the hype lives up to it (only occasionally doing it like with Infinite).

Overhype can definitely kill enthusiasm for a game, especially if the general populace declare it "BEST EVER, A MASTERPIECE" . That kept me from playing Halo for quite some time. I just am finally getting around to playing Halo 4.

MMO's.
I don't play online in general.

Also I don't touch modern military shooters, or sports-games.

Good luck with that, just don't read any of my posts to do with that game because I'd probably demand that you play Halo 2 :)

But yes overhype is a bullet to the brain to most games for me. I think maybe, BioShock 1 survived the shot in terms of games I actually played and liked that are overhyped (before I got them).
