Games or types of games I won't play at all. Honestly, none. If I can get access to a game through a friend, family or such I'll give it a try.

Games I wouldn't pay money for:

Most games that are meant as MP FPS (I'm just not really good at them and I hate holding the team back).

Subscription based MMOs... also not good enough at them, nor do I play them often enough to justify the subscription. Though to be fair Star Trek Online is one of my favorite games.

Non-simulation Sports Games (Like Madden and such. I'm not a fan of having to control players) though their strategy based counterparts are awesome.

Racing games outside of things like Mario Kart because I just suck at them and they lose their appeal quicker than I can get good at them.

Final Fantasy games because I am not a fan of where they went. Other JRPGs get judged on a game by game basis.

I have to say that this is the first time I've seen someone getting worked up over tarot cards.

I guess you either love or hate firetrucks alot?

At the end of the day games need to make money so the devs can keep on making them so I see marketing more as a necessary evil. As long as it has no impact on the final product (as in designing the game itself to be more marketable) than I don't see any problems with it.

Back to topic- MMOs arejust about the only game I won't pay. I just don't like having to pay a monthly subscription and the ones that don't usually have horrendous micro-transaction.

And the grinding man. Work is a grind as it is, don't need to have that in my leisure time.

That and games that are outright clones of other games. There are just so many variants of Shariki-based smartphones games à la Puzzles and Dragons it's ridiculous. Throwing a new skin over a game doesn't make it yours, guys, as much as you wanna make a quick buck...

I'm not going to even attempt to play The Last of Us, Monster Hunter games or Dark/Demon's Souls, not after that hype. I did the same for Infinite, it was a crap experience. I did the same for MW2, Halo: Reach, Mirror's Edge.

Basically I hate buying games because of a desire to see whether the hype lives up to it (only occasionally doing it like with Infinite).
Meh, Infinite kind of sucked regardless of hype. The art direction was fantastic, but the narrative left a lot to be desired. The Last of Us atleast deserves a try, maybe borrow it or by it when it goes down in price. Most games don't live up to the hype though, so I understand your point.
Infinite and me don't get along, bored me to death, though I probably worded my sentence to make it sound like I didn't play it. Luckily I can avoid The Last of Us 'cause I'm going to have to try it at a friend's house with a PS3 and TLoU, so it'd take a while to even look at it properly physically.

Then I was late to the Xbox 360 party and everybody was playing Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare but by that point the setting was no longer interesting to me. I never played it, nor any of the sequels. I suspect I may have done if the friend I played on the Xbox the most with was into it, but they weren't terribly excited by the multiplayer and we had Halo 3.
You missed out on one hell of a single-player though. And that's coming from someone who's not the biggest fan of FPS's, and who rather dislikes multi-player FPS's.

You should play it for the 'All Ghillied Up' level alone. Freaking genuis!

I don't get Minecraft, like I just genuinely do not get the appeal. Maybe it is because I live with my girlfriend, work 4 days a week on top of university and simply don't have time for a game that just seems like a time-sink.

To be honest I would rather play with Lego!

Space strategy games like Sins of a Solar Empire. It's too big and scary and complicated and smart and intimidating and frightening and other things for me.

My captcha is rent-a-swag... No! bad escapist! Go to your corner.

Top Down RPGs, like Diablo or Heroes Of Might And Magic. Tried a few times but I've never managed to get into them. They lack immersion and most of the time the controls feel very counter intuitive aswell, so I get fed up with it really fast.

The only sorta exception to this is Magicka, I just freaking love that spell system. Though I do often end up wondering how the game would be in first person or third person over the shoulder.

Other than that I haven't played any racing game aside from NFSU/2. I would play a new Carmageddon though.

Racing and sports simulation games. Though I will play unrealistic ones sometimes like Base Wars or Carmageddon.

Games made for tablets and cellphones.

Thoughtless button-masher hack and slash.

Most games for handheld systems that aren't RPGs. Very few exceptions.

Any game that has a P2W microtransaction pay model or makes it extremely inconvenient to play without paying.

Any full price retail game with on-disc locked content or microtransactions.

Any game that doesn't actually need to be always-online but requires a constant connection regardless.

I have a thing against games where violence is committed against innocents for violence sake. Or crime is the plot because, ya know, crime is cool. I am the guy that skipped the "airport scene" in Modern Warfare 2. While that DID have a plot device, I just can't do the "slaughtering 100's of innocents" thing.

So in a nutshell, I will never touch games like Payday. The games are beloved, I know that, but just not my cup of tea.

Point of contention = GTA series. They usually provide more of a "crime by last resort" plot to their games, so the actions become justifiable under the plot device. But I love watching Payday 2 lets plays and people are just gunning down civilians so they won't call the cops. By love I mean, roll my eyes at.

Also I avoid "OMG YOU HAVE TO PLAY THIS!!!!" games. This is part of the reason I have yet to touch The Last of Us. I wait until the furor has died and more critical eyes are viewing the piece.

Did someone mention JRPG's? If it does not have a Final Fantasy name on it, I feel like it was marketed for some other group of people.

And with that....

Mainly just survival horror games.
Because I'm a chicken.

Call of Duty, Medal of Honour, Battlefield, etc. etc.
Have no interest whatsoever in modern military shooters or what Yahtzee calls Spunkgargleweewee.

- Shooters: They bore me to tears. The last shooter I enjoyed was Painkiller I think. I used to play a lot of UT2k4 and Quake 3, and my favorite was always Unreal 1 because of how beautiful the world was (for the time), but those kind of shooters seem to have disappeared now for some reason.
- Sports games: I don't watch sports, so I don't see the appeal, unless it's something hilarious like NBA Jam.
- Grand Strategy: Too much work, too shitty tutorials.
- Platformers: Just no. The simple act of jumping from one platform to the next makes me slip into a comatose state. Unless there's some REALLY crazy level design, atmosphere or story to them, the basic premise just doesn't hold my interest.

I'll play just about anything. I don't particularly like sports games but I've been surprised by things like Blitz in arcades. I also dislike racing games by and large but games like Burnout, Destruction Derby and, the Mario Kart series have kept me entertained. Games that I just won't play would be things like Facebook games where you can do a little bit of something per day unless you give extra money so as to allow for more gameplay that day. I don't really like MMO games either but I'm not 100% against them. I played WoW, not having lost interest until I started paying for it (which was a ***** but I only payed for a month) and I'm interested in Guild Wars 2 and Old Republic even though it doesn't look like I'll have a chance to play those.

Edit - If it's on the Kinect or requires the PSMove then I won't play it. I think there's a PSMove floating around the house somewhere but I just want nothing to do with the Kinect of the present or future. Admittedly, Gun Stringer looked interesting.

I would like a few titles as well as genres that I won't play because they just don't appeal to me: (might as well exclude all the console games)

Minecraft
Pokemon
Japanese games, only exception being RPG's or Action/Adventure ones a la Devil May Cry
Massive strategy games, 4k or othertise (Total War, Civilization etc).
Puzzle platformers (exception Portal)
Adventure games
Sports games

Call of Duty, Battlefield, and Halo come to mind as basics. I'd suppose in more specifics, GTA V even if it gets ported to PC because the fans are treating it like the Last of Us fans treated their respective game. 'IT'S GONNA BE PERFECT, IT'S GONNA BLOW /SHIT/ LIKE SAINTS ROW IV OUT OF THE WATER!!!!'
I really, /really/ don't want to be even related to that part.

Indie games for the time being. Went all in the past year or so and have found that they tend to be shorter and more shallow than their major publisher counterparts (exceptions do exist). I have yet to play an indie game that's breached the 100 hour mark for me. I'm lucky to break 10 hours, honestly, with the 20 hours I spent in both Don't Starve and Awesomenauts being the max.

Things that fit the JRPG formula which generally means following most of these points:
1. No character craetion
2. Fixed classes
3. Directed central storyline with moderate or greater railroading
4. No sandbox
5. Relatively limited item pool
6. Turn based battle system
7. Tells the story of a specific character(s) that you play the role of (WRPG typically you create your own character and choose their role)

The more roguelike-inspired JRPGs such as Pokemon Mystery Dungeon and maybe even Persona 4 are preferable and something I still Enjoy. JRPGs done in the style of WRPGs (Dark souls being a premium example) are fun too. It's just that if I want to play something for its story I would rather not have the story blocked off by several hours of combat between each dialogue, so I would rather play something that is almost all story.
