Of course it has to be Dynasty Warriors, alway slated by the officials, they say it has no depth and is just button bashing, but to the fans they know the story and the depth, and button bashing can be fun.

Assassin's creed. Most people say it's repetitive and boring.
I completely agree with the fact that it's repetitive, but I still loved it. My only real problem was that it's far too easy.

hasn't this thread already been done? oh wells

Driv3r, i loved that game back then! then again i guess i was too young to get GTA San Andreas back then too...
But it's a thread that can be done over and over as they keep making games that fit what the question is asking. All this "thread has been done" business kind of irks me. If we really followed that "rule", there would be very little discussion on these boards. Besides, the search button doesn't work worth beans anyway. If you don't like a question, just pass it by. No need to slam it with a post.

Anyway, back to the subject. I really liked Warhammer: Mark of Chaos even though most gaming sites gave it a pretty low score. Even more often though, I find myself with the opposite situation where a game gets high scores and I can't stand it myself. Games like WWE Legends of WrestleMania for example, got high review scores, but when I tried it, I thought it was terrible. I wouldn't give it more than 3 out of 10 myself.

Do any of you have any games that you liked or just loved despite negative reviews? I know I have at least 2... Sonic R and Star Wars Episode 1 Racer both on PC.
i wasn't aware that star wars episode 1 pod racer had crap reviews. i played it on N64 but i fucking love that game, it's something that i can still go back to now and find awesome. there's just something about the ridiculous speed and stuff that i think is ace!

Personally, I enjoyed Sonic Adventure 2 and Sonic Heroes for what they were worth. And my brothers and I actually liked playing Beyblade V-Force. We also liked Legend of Dragoon, though I'm not sure how that fared in reviews...
loved adventure 2
hated heroes

weird... unleashed was pretty decent though

The NARC remake.

I enjoyed it until I got to the IMPOSSIBLE last level, and all the review sites game it shit.

Although, it wasn't a good game by any stretch when I look back.

Force Unleashed and Last Remnant. I really didn't mind FU and was entertained by it even if it was a simple hack'n'slash by my standards. LR got so much shit for tech issues that were fixed in the PC version and mostly negligible on Xbox if you installed it, the only site that gave it a fair review was game trailers which focused more on the GAME and not just bitched for 5 minutes about frame rate and texture issues. Yea those things bog down the experience but those aspects should only take up a fraction of the review, not be an entirely deciding factor.

The Penny Arcade Adventures, personally I can't get enough of it even though I'm not a fan of the comic itself. Its just one of those games that's so out there and demented that I can't help but play.

Then again I am quite drawn to games off the general radar of pop video game culture.

Bloodrayne - I think it got some really mediocre reviews but I loved playing it. Running around eating nazis and blasting the crap out of stuff? What's not to like?

Prince of Persia: Warrior Within

I even liked the rock soundtrack. And no I don't wear black nail polish and eyeliner (except for my weekend job down the docks)

Hated the new one though. Piece of shit.

Dead Space. I constantly see people crap on it and compare it to Event Horizon (horrible film IMO), but it did what I expected it to. It creeped me out, kept me entertained, and as expected the audio was absolutely divine.
Dead space did very well critically, I saw it get a few tens in magazines and stuff.

Deservedly so, there wasn't one minute of it i didn't enjoy ( apart from those damn meteors but everyone hates broken bits...)

PLus I don't care what anyone said it was scary to me. Made me almost jump out of my damn seat at one particular point... involving an elevator and the scream of a woman...

frontlines: fuel of war, bettere than some say it is.

sure, online play is sometimes laggy and annoying, but the open world warfare feel of it more than makes up for that

Mirror's Edge, Mount & Blade, and Clive Barker's Jericho for me.

BTW, if you liked Jericho, go look up Barker's other game, Undying.

I actually thought Too Human was OK, dismissing the fact that it took 14 years to make.

Kung Fu Chaos.

Seriously, it's a fighting game about making bad kung-fu action flicks. Sure, the balance is a slight bit off (looking at YOU, Xui Tansour), but the gameplay is constant fun.
