That's how I feel about The Last of Us now. Everytime I play/watch something it will never be as good as the first time. The law of diminishing return, I suppose. I wish I could forget everythhing about it, and experiance it for the first time again.

For older games, Kingdom Hearts isn't quite as great as I thought it was, though I still like it, and i'll buy the sequel. Music i still amazing though.

I usually wait several years before replaying FF7 or Ocarina of Time, just so they don't seem old and tired. They hold up pretty well though. I like retro games, because of or despite of their age. Some holdup and some don't.

I find The Walking Dead difficult to replay, but not for the same reasons as other posters here have said. I WANT to replay the game, and I WANT to experience the story once more, and see how things play out differently. Unfortunately, knowing how most of the game plays out anyway, it's just too...BORING to replay. Because the game is entirely story-based, there are no gameplay experiences provided that are generally why I would want to go back through and enjoy something again. The Walking Dead was absolutely excellent and hands down one of the best games ever made, but I would rather rewatch a movie than replay a game/movie.

Concerning games that really start to lose sheen, Fallout 3 is definitely one that comes to mind. I've recently been replaying the game, and though I'm enjoying it more this time around than any other time, its environment and immersion is significantly less impressive this time around, because I can see through all of its cracks. The first couple of times you play it, its overall production values and visual depth and detail really draws you in. But now because I've played it a fair amount (at least a couple hundred hours and most likely more than that), the game is really quite standard.

The difficulty of Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus didn't age very well. I remember being a kid and finding that game really challenging, but in this day and age I can run straight through the game probably in about two hours or so. It would have been a really impressive game if Sucker Punch had managed to make it difficult for young and old alike.

For those looking for a platformer that has aged surprisingly well, however, check out Pac-Man World 2. That game definitely still has its difficult parts, and its simple look has made its graphics pretty comparable to early PS3/360 games.

I don't get most of the other reasons here as to why you wouldn't want to replay it, though... "This game provided me with an incredibly emotional experience unlike almost any other I've ever had. So I never want to appreciate it again." Like, what?
Well that reason is kind of like your own in a sense. For me one of the best things about the game was the sense of unknown; like any good story, part of the reason you're so engaged with it is because you're eager to experience what happens next. Since I already know what's going to happen (of course there would be variations based on your choices, but it seems the general outcomes more or less remain the same), I wouldn't get the same emotional reaction from it. And since that's what I enjoyed most about The Walking Dead, it would spoil the experience, if that makes any sense. So it would also be kinda boring to replay it due to lacking its greatest strength, at least in my opinion.

In a way, Journey. I've only played it twice so far (once online for the beautiful sense of camaraderie, and once offline for some soul-crushing loneliness). It's not so much out of fear of tarnishing my memories of it, because the game is just plain fantastic on every level, but I am afraid that it'll be less... Magical if I play it again. Besides, those few hours I did play it were more than worth my $15.

Ah Goldeneye, it was the first game I bought once I got my N64. Loved that game so much. But sadly it has not aged well. Last Thanksgiving, my cousins and I dug out the cartridge and played. It was fun in a nostalgic sense, but the game mechanics were foreign to me now. And it's clunky and way harder to aim then modern console shooters.

I still have very fond memories playing Goldeneye, but I won't be replaying it again. That being said, I still love playing a few 64 games. Smash Bros, Mario Kart, and Mario Party are all still as fun today as they were 15 years ago. I feel that is a testament to a well made game and system. The fact my 64 is still working without issue after all these years is something new consoles could learn from *coughred-ringcough*

I also still play my original xbox games on rare occasions. I played through the entire MQ of Morrowind leading up to Skyrim's launch in 2011, after a brief re-adjustment to the play style I had a great time. I also still play some Splinter Cell Chaos Theory levels, the best game of that franchise imo. Oh and I still really enjoy playing Pirates of Caribbean, even thought it's not b/c on the 360 and I have to actually plug in my old xbox. And the game is still buggy and corrupts save files. lol I still like it though.

I feel you can go back and enjoy some old games, some are still fun to play, others are best left to memory. I would just say, go back cautiously and don't force yourself to play and old game and risk ruining the fond memories.

Yeaaahhhh... Me and my 2 brothers decided to play this for some fun, then we realized it played like ass and we didn't have much fun. Switched to F-Zero X and it was all kittens and rainbows~

I guess a more original/uncommon vote for me would be Mario Kart 64. I just... don't find it that great these days. It used to be so fun, but I can't seem to enjoy the maps, controls, or the way the red shells work (they keep flying into the damn walls!!!). It's too bad too, I really liked it back in the day.

i would not feel right replaying THE WALKING DEAD, what has happened, im happy with it. i dont want anything different it would be unnecessary.. and not sure i can handle the ending again ha.
I had a similar feeling after Mass Effect 3.
3 games of build-up, got together the whole f*** Galaxy to try one last time to knock out the reapers, sucker punched that reporter 3 times (well, the third time was a headbut but whatever), and at the end of it all we won. Finally beat the game, saw the ending, not quite happily ever after (because APPARENTLY the star-child wasn't lying about destroying all synthetics. I called his bluff because that makes little sense. There goes about a third of the settled galaxy and 2 species.)
BUT, ENDING ASIDE, after beating the series, I had a very significant sense of conclusion. It was very much a completed story. Going back to any of the games just felt a bit pointless, because I've done that song and dance before, I know how it ends, and I was satisfied with it as a whole.
So, despite the DLC that is enticing, I'm done with the Mass Effect trilogy.
