Tales of Symphonia 2. I refuse to remember the full name of the title for it was just so awful.

To some extent the Halo series too.

Halo Combat Evolved: Hey! Awesome game! I love this! FPS games are awesome!

Halo 2: Eeeeehhh...

Halo 3: Awesome! Best of the two games with new stuff! :D But it feels a bit cut around the corners.

Aw, I liked the sonic adventure games. But you're spot on about everything after it.

Deus Ex 2 was such a botched abomination of a game.

STALKER Clear Sky was technically a prequel, and more of an expansion pack than truely a seperate game, but god it was terrible.

I'm tempted to say Fallout 3. It's not bad by any means, but it is completely different.

Gothic 3. It's the third game they botched, not the second, but, I guess it still counts.

Quake 2. It's another fantastic game, but it's only named Quake for marketing purposes.

...? KHII was good. :S

On topic:
Bad sequels... erm, Final Fantasy X-2 was a total cock up. I needn't explain that.

I'm also going to go out on a limb and assume Metal Gear Solid Rising will be awful. For one, the series should have ended at 4, now it's being milked as a cash cow, which means lower quality if you go by recent gaming trends.

It also lacks any involvment from Kojima, and every single Metal Gear that has not had Kojima's involvement has sucked!

I'm going to say \the crap Star Wars games out there ruined the good ones. Sure the newest one was well liked, but I can't play another game set 'A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away' for fear of it damaging the Star Wars legacy even further.

If that's the case, then any 3D Worms game sullied the originals' reputaion.
Most definitely. The game was meant for 2D. It just lost everything that made it great when they went to 3D.
I agree as well. The 3D games had their own merits, but they just weren't the simple joys that the 2D games were.

Why, exactly? You said in a thread that's title is "reputation of the original", so you obviously don't hate the first one, but what's so bad about the second one?

Sims 2

Any Crash game not made by Naughty Dog ('cept Twinsanity, DAMN that's got good music)

Worms 3D

Alternativley, Rayman 2 was better than the original, in my humble opinion

Star Wars games have had their rep trashed between TIE Fighter and KOTOR. Those two act as bookends for some truely craptastic games.

I think Halo's downfall was a result of it's greatest success: Multiplayer. It became such a great multiplayer success that the good single player game from the first game (minus that darned never ending library level).

I also got tired with Mario a long time ago. Too many spin off games spoiled just made me tired of seeing the plumber.

Hey!! I liked the Sonic Adventure games. Any 3D Sonics that came after them were toiling in mediocrity at best, but the Sonic Adventures were good.

OT: Chrono Cross. Now before I explain why I'd like to qualify that by saying that Chrono Cross by itself was a pretty decent game. It's graphics were amazing and I think they could even stand up against todays standards despite having been on the PS1, the battle system was pretty good, and I loved the soundtrack. So, now I suppose that leaves you wondering why I'm listing it in this thread. Because, I hated the direction they took the series!
They killed off the three main characters from the first game, that really got under my skin. I still cannot accept that Guardia could fall, not with Prince Crono (Crono married Marle, at the end of the PSX version of CT that makes him a prince and it's cannon) around to defend it.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising will ruin the reputation of the original game from what I have seen.

I would also have to say that F.E.A.R.: Project Origin ruined peoples' impressions of the original. It was the one sequal that I flat-out refused buy/play. After I tried the demo, I was extremely disappointed.

ive played number 3, 4 and 5. and while HOMM3 is the greatest game ever, the other ones are also pretty damm great, but a bit of a letdown.

on topic: Dawn of War 2 pretty much made the franchise go boom.

worms 3d was fun, but 3d doesnt really suit the worms games.

Ack, I can sense some people coming here and utilizing their chance to bash on a good game and say Fallout 3 because it tried something different from the originals...

Silent Hill: Homecoming....

and I will probably get flamed for this one, but:

Metal Gear Solid 4... took all the espionage out of "Tactical Espionage Action"....

Surprised no one mentioned Tomb Raider 3 and everything after it right up until the newer ones by Crystal D (which aren't bad actually).

Tomb Raider 1 and 2 deserve a better legacy. I have yet to play a game (any game!) that quite captures the scale that these two games had.
