Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2.
I'm a miner by heart.
Cortex Command.
I made a modded digger called "Titan Drill". Before that I dug with explosives.
Fable 2.
I owned every house and I was corrupt. Need I go into detail?
Fallout 3.
Digging is more than dirt. Its junk too. Anything higher than 20 caps gets picked up and sold.

I usually find a way to get money in the games I play. Sometimes I'm broke but sometimes I find a method that, with enough time, gets me rolling in cash.

In Oblivion, one of my characters has several million gold, and their mercantile skill isn't even up to 70 yet. One of the game's myriad flaws is how slow Mercantile levels. BUT WHY DO I LOVE IT SO MUCH.

The first game that I've made money in was Red Alert. As I watched my Ore Truck dump the gold into the refinery and watched the money counter tick up, I felt like I was accomplishing something worthwhile in a game for once. I had to carefully manage my power levels, navigate my ridiculous amount of tanks, and exploit the grenade glitch. But fighting over ore and gem patches were the most tense part about the game. Claiming the last patch in the game was the difference between life and death in Red Alert.
However, in modern games, you make a ridiculous amount of money. In Sandbox games especially, money practically falls from the sky considering how easily obtainable it is. In Assassin's Creed 2, my villa started to make stupid amounts of money and once I got all the upgrades, I just ran around, throwing money everywhere and then poisoning the first unlucky bastard to get to the pile. In essence, I was sort of like a psychotic Robin Hood.
In Mercenaries 2, you find money in big piles practically on the side of the road. Not to mention abusing the winch challenge. I made millionare within the first 10 minutes of the game.
In RPGs, it's not so different. Selling loot and examining loot was probably one of the least appealing aspects of RPGs in my opinion. The crowning one for me was Fallout 3, where practically every raider that had a gun was worth 30-100 caps. By the end game, I could buy out the entire inventories of towns if I wanted to.
What game did you make the most money in?
Mercenaries 2? I think you mean Airstrikes 2: Hooray for airstrikes.

lol seriously tho, I went apeshit when I got the first Mercenaries on PS2. I ended up playing it over and over, until I ended up with way over a few billion dollars. Mustave finished it at least 20 times.
But honestly, how can you not love a game that gives you $100,000,000 when you complete the game?

S.T.A.L.K.E.R: SoC. For the first few hours, I was constantly broke and low on ammo, so I scrounged and sold everything I could, sometimes after a large battle I'd even have to make two trips back to the trader to carry it all. About 15 hours in, I realized that I hadn't spent a single ruble in forever, and I had ridiculous cash (200,000+) and nothing really to spend it on, since I had better armor than was sold and guns strong enough that I didn't need a full clip to take down every bandit.

Probably Fallout 3, because I never spent any money and I sold everything I found. I would loot every enemy, and take all weapons and armor worth over 20 caps. Sell it to a vendor, and instead of buying stuff with it, I'd just steal everything I was going to buy. I think the only thing I ever spent money on was the suite upgrades, and magnum ammo. I ended up with well over 100,000 caps.

(It's doesn't sound like a lot when compared to other games, as I've made billions in various other titles; but I never really had to "work" for all of that money, at least I had to do something to get the caps.)

In Oblivion I used to buy all the different potions I could find (plus the ones I already'd made myself) and drop them, if you drop different items they'll show up independently, so when I dropped 200 different potions I made a pretty, purple fountain towards the ground.

Oh, and in C&C3 I kind of collect a bit too much tiberium, so in LAN matches I have a few hundred thousand units of tiberium... It usually ends with me buying 1000 venoms and plowing through the opposition.

I think, for me It must be World of Warcraft as my Cousen gave me a few 100 gold every like week, or fable 2 in which I used the changing date glitch

The problem with Oblivion's means of leveling up Mercantile is that you gain experience in the skill for every transaction, so it actually makes more sense from that point of view to sell, say, a giant pile of Iron Arrows looted off bandits one...at...a...time. It's excruciating.

Or you can just mod the game so that Mercantile increases at 10x speed or something.

I've made a lot of money on Guild Wars. I used to do chest runs and I got lucky one time and sold a perfect rare skinned axe for about 1 million in-game gold but, seeing as you can only trade 100k at a time, the other 900k was as "Globs of Ectoplasm", which sell for about 7k each. I ended up selling a lot of them and using the rest to buy Obsidian armor. I don't have that much money now but I still have various methods of making easy money that haven't been nerfed yet because I refuse to tell anyone. I even have characters I don't use just sitting there and ageing, so that every year I get a free birthday present, hah.

The most amount of money earned illegitimately would probably be Oblivion, where I raped the duplication glitch.

Borderlands.

By lvl 61, even the most mundane weapons you find are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. The money counter maxes out at 999,999,999, but every time you die, you lose 1/10th of your $$$'s.

I currently have 126 BILLION dollars. :D

Hmm, now that I think about it, I really love hoarding cash.

FFXII: millions of gil, then I start to buy 6 of everything in the game
Fallout 3: 100000+ caps, then I stopped collecting
AC2: I stopped collecting after 500000 florins
San Andreas: billions, never did anything with it
Oblivion: hundreds of thousands, then I stopped looting
Any Total War game: millions, then I queue the best units I can produce in every city and take over the map

If a bill was passed to make game currency legit many people here could buy their own country I guess.

San Andreas. There was a cheat that restore health and armor, and repaired cars. OH YEAH. It also happened to give you 250,000 dollars every time, too.
