Hello everyone

Now before I start I want to just narrow down the title a little bit. I'm interested in games which are RELAXING as well as fun, which you can sit down and relax into.

Now recently I've entered into a time in my life which is particularly hectic and will only get more intense from here on in, so it's only natural that when I come home for some good ol' gaming what I don't want to do is be sitting on the edge of my seat in tension. There are some great games which are filled with tension such as Alien: isolation and just about all multiplayer FPS games, however what I'm looking for here is games which are genuinely fun. I've found that there's too much competitiveness in multiplayer games nowadays and not enough actual pleasure taken out from then. What I mean is you're not just hanging on for the next level up on your gun's 5th attachment but rather you're enjoying yourself within a game's world.

My most recent example is probably Assassin's Creed Black flag. Cruising around in a pirate ship just plundering whatever ships I want, exploring whatever Majestic looking island and just generally feeling like an awesome pirate. I didn't have to go do the missions, I didn't have to destroy the bloody poms caargo ships if I didn't want to I was free to do whatever I wanted and it was all enjoyable (I'm looking at you GTAv). There was a sense of progress, very little things holding you back thanks to the large amount of health/easy enemies and no overall pressure on you to perform well. I could have sank hours into that game just doing nothing.

So yeah tell me if you have a game which you can just sit back and relax into while having genuine fun. just to be clear I don't want games which just hold onto you like an addiction or eat up time or are even masterpieces. Any genre or any console even online flash games.

So sit back relax and indulge in some pleasure-rich games everyone :)

- I will have to throw Saints row the third and Saints row 4 as easy picks. They are the definition of "Games which are fun" and "RELAXING" games .

- The Borderlands series are a close second if you can deal with the repetitiveness and its loot system. It's a lot better with friends.

I have not played the Borderland Pre Sequel so I can't recommend that

- Telltale Games this is only third because its a love or hate it type of Game the other 2 may be hated by some but most will say it has some redeeming qualities but this game and it's approach to game play or lack of it is vary off putting for some people.

Super Mario 3D World was definately fun. Not all that challenging, just a cozy trek across colourful platforms.

Rayman Legends and Origins are great fun, too, and probably the best platformers I've played in years.

Most recently probably DriveClub. It's a game I can play for hours or just 10 minutes. The car handling model is phenomenal and it's probably the best looking game I've ever seen. Nothing quite like almost feeling your car rumble and shake as you drive down a mountain at 250 miles per hour in the pouring rain. I play this game just trying to perfect laps with different cars and weather circumstances. Just a really soothing experience. :p

Transformice [http://store.steampowered.com/app/335240/] baby. Yeah!

No, don't do it.

On an actual serious note, I've always found 4x games to be quite relaxing. Not overly intense. Games like the Civilization, or Endless games are all fairly slow paced.

Cities XXL or XL is a nice joyful ride to balance the books for your city, assuming it's like the older Sim Cities. I liked 4 the most.

I also liked Antichamber.

Another Sid Meier game, Pirates! is somehow still on Steam. Check that shit out if you liked Black Flag.

That's what Tent has for you. Enjoy a more... relaxing, session!

But..but Transformice is fun...just not the community.

Some of my favorite fun games include light platformers like the Kirby Franchise and any bullet hell games like Resogun.
I'm also a huge sucker for life sim games so I would also say Animal Crossing and its ilk are fun though your milage may very there.

I found that Darkest Dungeon is strangely soothing. Even though you're constantly juggling resources, the mental state of your warriors and their health the turn-based combat system allows you to think every step through.
On the other hand, it's a pretty dark and disturbing game, so depending on your tolerance for that it could be an option.

The original spyro trilogy are my go to games for relaxing and having fun. Nice, simple platformers on the ps1 are my favourite kind of game. A lot of them are available on the psn if you're interested.

Well theres always the relaxing no objective games like Minecraft and Goat Simulator.

If you want more of a gamey game... Just Cause 2, and subsequently get hyped for JC3.

I would put Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2. They are really fun to play and if you like sexy humor, the innuendo jokes are a blast (specially because they are visual jokes, and very few are spoken). Furthermore, repeating the old levels gives you currency to spend)

I would put Minecraft in easy survival mode. However if you don't play Minecraft, read a first day guide to have short-term goal and a good start (or else the night will be a little "unrelaxing").

Pokemon ORAS (if you don't mind to have too much water).

Any Dynasty Warriors style game. I've been playing Samurai Warriors 4 lately, and it's just mindless fun. I also find the Combat challenges in the Batman Arkham games to be fun, as the combat in those games was just so well done. If you are going for high scores it can be frustrating, but if you just want to pummel some bad guys, it's perfect!

So, if you have a 360 or PS3, you should get Earth Defense Force 2025. Earth is being attacked by Giant Insects, and you have to defend it as a member of the EDF, using an arsenal of four different classes, about 700 weapons, and unlimited ammo on almost all of them. Oh, and you're very likely to raze the cities you're supposed to protect in the process. Your shoulder-mounted artillery missed the Giant Insect that's sitting in its web between two skyscrapers? Too bad for the building behind it!

The four classes are as follows:

Ranger:
Classic soldier archetype. They have a well-rounded arsenal, including assault rifles, rocket and missile launchers, sniper rifles, etc. They can also pilot vehicles.

Air Raider:
More of a support class. Uses mostly sticky grenade launchers and can deploy stuff like healing stations, force fields etc. They can also call in air strikes and request vehicle drops, both of which have to be earned by killing Giant Insects. Can pilot vehicles too.

Wing Diver:
Lightly armored class with jetpacks. Think valkyries with plasma and laser weapons. Her weapons' reload uses jetpack energy though, so if that runs out you're grounded and can't reload until it has completely recharged.

Fencer:
Heavily armored class using heavy weapons (eg. gatling guns, cannons, artillery, laser guided missiles) and riot shields. Holds a weapon (or shield) in each hand. Their heavy armor makes them move pretty sluggishly on their own, but holding a melee weapon gives them the ability to dash short distances. When combined with a melee weapon that uses a dash in its attack too, you'll be surprisingly mobile. You should also note that melee is somewhat of a blurry concept here; I've used "melee" weapons that can hit enemies Giant Insects up to 120m away and I'm pretty sure there are some that reach further.

It certainly is fun, and causing mayhem among friends and foes Giant Insects alike is a very relaxing form of catharsis. And if you like a challenge, you can start any mission on every difficulty right from the get-go. It's a great (couch) co-op game too. There are actually some guided missile launchers you can only use effectively in multiplayer, since they require another class painting targets Giant Insects with a laser rangefinder for you.

Hmm i understand what you mean as i have been doing the same recently. This may not be popular on here, being AAA and the story not quite as good as the previous one, but i just love to aimlessly trek across the countryside, dealing with whatever comes my way and getting overly attatched to any elephant i find. Ok its Far Cry 4. But really, just pick a direction, pull out your bow and see what happens from there! I recommend investing in a silenced sniper rifle early on though...and a marksman sighted recurve bow. ;)
The world is alive with sounds and wildlife it feels a little nice to hide in the bushes, mingling with animals. Just like my childhood years at school.

Yahtzee mentioned in a Let's Drown Out for the same that Viscera Cleanup Detail is one of those games that's great for just booting up when you need to get some sense of rote accomplishment but also relax and listen to a podcast in the background. I for one wholeheartedly second this notion.

Kerbal Space Program if you're into rocketry. Or just making stuff blow up in fun ways. :D

Don't get me wrong, it's going to take practice, a lot of practice, and you're going to get annoyed at trying to figure out how much fuel you need to actually get into orbit, but eventually it's going to be second nature.

Katamari Damacy or We Love Katamari. There's just enough incentive to try to do well without getting stressed over it. To me they're the quintessential relaxing games.

Animal Crossing and Fantasy Life are great to relax into as well. If you want, you can try to pursue a concrete goal. Or you can just mess around and have fun.
