If you have a DS, I would personally recommend Pokemon. The gameplay is simple to grasp and the difficulty is lax but satisfying. The game is designed to be played at a leisurely pace, the difficulty curve and learning curve are very low and penalties for failures are light. It's fun just to roam around catching pokemon, level up and fight the various trainers and gym leaders.

If your willing to take a small risk, I could also recommend "Besiege" which is an early access game on Steam. It's a game where you are given a task (usually destroy an object, but there are different missions), a variety of blocks with different properties and a build space to construct it on. There is no time limit, blocks are only limited by the space you can use to build in, objectives are currently rather simple and despite the small number of blocks to choose from, the game is quite open to the players imagination.

WARNING: This is a compilation video from random anons, there is some content some might find offensive.

EDIT: Really want to emphasise that warning. This compilation came from 4 chan. It depicts some amazing creations, but there are some particularly offensive ones in it.

2:32 depicts the twin towers being destroyed.
12:30 depicts the recent IS burning of captive Jordan pilot.
A couple of "suicide" trucks are shown too, but I didn't find them too off character for the game and they weren't meant to represent specific events.

There are various sexual depictions throughout... but I found them harmless enough (some quite humorous and imaginative). Going to slap an NSFW on the vid anyway, to be sure.

Wish I could find a better video, but this is by far the best compilation video to show what Besiege is capable of.

The game is far from finished yet and the number of blocks is limited but growing. Yet it's quite polished, very charming and most importantly... fun. It's going for ?6.99 at the moment with more content expected as time rolls on (but the price will increase relative to that).

There is only 9 or 10 missions available at the moment, but you spend quite a few hours on them, thinking up different and ridiculous ott ways to complete them.

Katamari Damacy or We Love Katamari. There's just enough incentive to try to do well without getting stressed over it. To me they're the quintessential relaxing games.

Animal Crossing and Fantasy Life are great to relax into as well. If you want, you can try to pursue a concrete goal. Or you can just mess around and have fun.
+1 for any Katamari game. Absolutely a blast, and only as challenging as you want them to be. Especially once you finish levels and have "endless mode" to just roll everything up.

I find the only games that are truly "relaxing" are those without specific goals, or can be played without specific goals. Such as Minecraft of course, but also even GTA where you can just drive around and start shit, or play around customizing your character. There are many city driving sims around, although I haven't tried Euro Truck Simulator it seems a pretty cool one to zone out with.

If not looking to drive, well, you can also replay a game on Newgame+ that might be easy peasy second time 'round. I also love to play emulators and ROMs of old games, especially since when I was a kid, the arcades provided nail-biting challenge in order to get your money, and now you can just press a button and top up your 'quarters' at will. So that takes all the edge off.

And lastly, *the* most relaxing game, that you probably already have on the computer that you're using to read this: Solitaire. Yep, it's the game that you can pick up and put down at any moment's notice. Get in on your phone too. Engages your mind as long as you need it to.

The original Jak & Daxter. Except for some boss battles which can get intense (but not always do) this is just a relaxing walk through some colourful worlds.

I don't know about relaxing, but now that the public beta for Carmageddon: Reincarnation has dropped, it has become a total blast. I've been waiting for a good sequel to Carmageddon II for 12 damn years, and I finally got it.

I definitely wouldn't call The Wolf Among Us a relaxing affair...but enjoyable? Definitely. Telltale's been doing some excellent work the last few years, man.

On topic!

Relaxing games. Hm.

1. Visual Novels, the light hearted ones, are good for a nice relaxing time.

2. Some MMOs, like Eve, can be immensely relaxing with certain activities, that'll just let ya switch off for a while and dawdle about/explore.

3. I suppose Elite Dangerous can be pretty relaxing? Go explore. See the universe. Woo.

4. Been mentioned, but the Saints Row games, primarily 3-4, are good for just running about causing casual mayhem.

I'm honestly having trouble thinking of a game(s) that have made me happy throughout. It's usually only segments or certain dialogue or character interactions that cause those sorts of reactions in me. And I generally don't just play games to relax anymore. I want to be engaged. Sink my teeth into something with substance- I'm lying. A good shooter/blow'em'up/grindy mmo is perfectly fine still.

For a series I find fun, that would the Souls games. I love those games a lot and I basically play everyone that releases, on multiple consoles sometimes several times in a row, which is the case for Dark Souls 1 which I played to 100% back-to-back on Xbox 360 and PS3 then when it released on PC I bought it and played it again there too. I did the same for Dark Souls 2 but since I don't have a 360 anymore (long story), I only played it at release on PS3 but once it released on PC, I played it there and I will be doing the same for the Ps4 version here soon. As you can see, I looooooove the Souls games and I can't wait for Bloodborne to release!

For a game I play to relax? I have always relaxed by playing games but as for what I play when I get ready for bed or go to my room, I have actually found myself playing more older PC games when I can't decide what to play next. My favorite was I replayed all Star Wars: Dark Forces games recently (apropos of the article here which I had some... Issues with, but I digress) and for the last two nights I played Alchemilla the Silent Hill Source engine mod and tonight I might play some ROMhacks while waiting to fall asleep (thank you HDTV and a PS4 controller connected wirelessly to my PC!)

Any of the Katamari games. Zone out, chuckle, relax, enjoy rolling up the screaming public and the geography.

Hello everyone

:)
Hello :D
First of, did I miss it somwhere or.. what console(s) do you have or is it PC?
I can mainly help if you have something from the Nintendo series, otherwise I could ask a few friends for their thoughts.

Some first thoughts which are mainly multiplatform (I think)

Trine2: a multiplatform, puzzle 2D adventure game, very enjoyable.

Harvest Moon series.

The Batman games?

Depends what you consider "relaxing"

Battlefield 3/4 Multiplayer is relaxing for me.

Shmups like Crimson Clover, Kamui, Raptor or Tyrian 2000 are pretty fun.

You could try the games by Amanita Design. There are others like "Samorost", but I believe "Machinarium" and "Botanicula" are the most well known. At least they are the most recent. Both of them are sidescroller-adventures and they are quite atmospheric and really charming. "Machinarium" is quite difficult in terms of puzzles, but "Botanicula" is far less so.

Edit: If you love marveling at the landscapes in games I strongly recommend "Far Cry 2" and "Zeno Clash 2" (Zeno Clash 1 to actually be able to understand the story of 2). All of these games can be somewhat challenging on higher difficulties, so maybe play on the lower ones. However it doesn't really matter for "Far Cry 2", because you have almost complete freedom to move around.

Child of Eden... It's a trip... A "musical" trip, if you will...

Other than that, there's Ratchet & Clank... Two words: Go nuts...

Most Urban Sandbox games are a good bet:

Saint's Row 3/4
Grand Theft Auto 5
Just Cause 2

I'd also recommend some good third person action titles. Batman Arkham games, Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor, any Assassin Creed game, they all give a lot of content and are just fun to play without being too stressful.

I find games like Terraria and Minecraft to be quite fun and relaxing.

For RPGs, I would recommend trying Kingdoms of Amalur: The Reckoning. The controls are very tight and a lot of fun, and it offers a lot of content without really overwhelming you too much.

Also check out the original Fable, or just Fable Anniversary if you want a more modern version.
