Games Whose Minigames Sucked the Fun Out of the Rest of the Game

It was cute at first. But then I realized, I have to do this every day. Every.Fucking.Day. It is absolutely mandatory to take part in this forklift race. As in, the game will not continue until you finish the race. You're never even given the option to opt out and just fucking start working. You HAVE to do this.

I don't even remember what you get for actually doing well. Probably not worth jack shit, especially the time wasted into this.

Those who played Shenmue know that the game is full of mundane tasks you have to part in. Such as this point of the game, you HAVE TO GET A REAL JOB, and actually work the job too. Forklifting boxes and fulfilling quotas and the like. It may sound boring (And it is) but Shenmue is all about the experience and realizing that you are a very small part of this world. Working a job to reach your goal was a part of that.

But the races? Just pure bullshit. I swear I felt like turning the game off at the end of an in-game day because i KNOW I'm going to have to do the stupid race the next morning. I think I actually did quit playing a few times because of it. Even LUCKY HIT in Shenmue 2 wasn't this annoying.

Fable 3 made getting a part time job feel too much like getting a part time job.
It was in 2 as well, but at the very least it didn't make playing the lute feel bloody mandatory..

Kingdom Hearts 2 flying missions in between going to worlds...What kind of drugs were Square on when they developed these missions?
I gave them a little credit for at least trying to be more interesting than the first game's.
I barely had to touch the controller for those slogs.

Blitzball in Final Fantasy X.
The opening cutscene made it look super awesome.

But when I actually played it.... uuurgh. I wanted it to end so badly.
Gosh Damn Ninja's
I actually have a worse one though. The Chocobo Racing Game in Final Fantasy X. I know what your thinking: How can riding chocobos be boring? Well when you decide to go get everyone's ultimate weapon and have to have a time faster than 0.0 seconds to get Tidus' with all those god damn seagulls and you have to dodge 98% of those bastards as well as get all but 3 bloody ballons....ARRRRRGHHH!!! I honestly said fuck it and quit for months at a time because spent 6-8 hour sessions trying to beat the bloody thing.

My close second though is the Dodoh's High Dive in skyward sword to get that heart piece, but I figured that out a bit under 15-20 mins.

*edit* just thought you ought to know, to this day I'm still not sure if i beat it. I put 20+hrs in that minigame alone. Never beat X because I just have to have a bit of OCD when it comes to games and have to have everything done b4 I beat it. I hope I did when I restart that bad boy in a few months.

Final Fantasy X - Blitzball was just horrible, and actually, a few of the things to get the ultimate weapons were horrible. The chocobo race was ridiculous, and I never even tried to do the dodge a few hundred lightning bolts one. I don't have that much time or will to even get that attempt that one.

Final Fantasy X's mini-games to get the ultimate weapons... GOD I HATED THOSE WITH A PASSION! Seriously whoever thought of them is an utter psychopath that enjoys the suffering of others. Dodge 200 lightning bolts, get the Chocobo Race with 0 time, that stupid butterfly catching. Dear GOD never again.

Bioshock and its damn hacking mini-game.

I would be more tolerant of it if there were more than one type of hacking mini-game, but it is the same one every friggin' time, with no variation whatsoever. It's also impossible sometimes. Overload and Alarm tiles will block off the exit intentionally, rendering the hack impossible.

Pazaak in KoToR also got on my nerves very fast.
Pazaak is not for everyone.

I'll add the racing in KOTOR onto that. Made me almost not want to complete the game. Fortunately you only had to do it once.

Apart from that, well, I haven't actually played many games that have minigames in them. And most of the ones that did (MMOs usually) were quite fun. So that's about all I can say.

Fable II's job mini-games were tedious. I ended up avoiding them, so I was rather disappointed with the arm-wrestling mini-game included in The Witcher 2 because it reminded me so much of jobs in Fable II. Oh well.

On the flipside, though, I think Okami does mini-games extremely well, even that maniacally difficult final "Blockhead" encounter.

This fucking game:

Two hours of my time wasted when I could have been mowing down innocents.
Where's that from? I'm drawing a blank.
I'll help: A good part of the moving down would have been done by car, presumably. Or by car(s), exploding.
I don't remember, though, was there a need to play it? I thought it was pretty cool.

Bioshock hacking mini-game. I usually hack everything when giving in the option in a game but after 2 hours of playing the plumber I just had to stop hacking for sake of my sanity insane.

Also the bloody tower defense in Assassins Creed Revelations. I know you only really have to do it once, but keeping your notoriety down for fear of having to do a mini game is not my idea of fun. Still haven't finished that game.

Assassin's Creed:Revelations - Tower Defense and Mediterranean Defense. Tower Defense was super supid easy and it was just a complete waste of time. Eventually just started ignoring it and went to claim back with my blades instead. Mediterranean Defense was just fiddly bullshit.

Final Fantasy X - Blitzball

BioShock - Wasn't super fond of playing Pipe Dream all the time to hack things, but it wasn't terrible.

I think some of these are complaining too much. I think others are not enough. For a little perspective, let's listen to Dara O'Briain.

I vote Guitar Hero.
