Oh well, at least it's laughable. When it happens to others, at any rate.

Ever experienced those fist-clenching, teeth gritting moments where your computer teammate just does something stupid instead of saving you when you're in peril? I certainly have (burns L4D).

Though I suppose L4D was never really a game you play offline to begin with.

I too have no idea what happened with the bot AI in L4D2. It was fine in L4D but it turned to shit in 2.

I found the AI to be particularly crap in Borderlands. Those Raiders....gah. One of the reasons I barely play it, the endless stream of dumb Raiders.

this game has the worst bot AI but the best enemy AI. how weird.
I agree. It makes it so that it is extremely fun online and extremely frustrating when you're online with those.. bots.

I always thought Halo had great enemy AI. The friendly AI however . . . could use work, and are never allowed to drive, ever, . . . again.

I would say oblivion and fallout 3, i don't think Bethesda has gotten the whole AI thing down proper. Let alone character movement mechanics, expressions and dialogue, but that is a whole different subject.

LOTR Conquest. The Enemy is alright but friendly is terrible. They always walk into walls and never follow you

Medieval Total War II had some seriously unresponsive battle AI - the enemy just stood in a fairly impractical battle formation and let themselves get shot. And the friendly AI - Oh God, so many suicide cavalry charges into spearmen. Usually by the general himself.

The Mercenaries games have terrible AI. The friendly AI might as well be fighting for the enemy.

It's harder for Bethesda-style sandbox games, because they can't script AI: they have to be able to work in any situation. That said, it is still really bad.

MW2. Ramirez is the Whole untied states army. I sat there shooting the damn guys on my own team because they were frozen in place telling me to do something I did 5 minutes ago.

assassins creed 2, oh i had fun with the most stupid ai ever. you know that place in venice the docks close to the santa marco, go there with a bunch of guards and jump over the water a few times. you will seriously laugh your ass off when all the guards drown, push each other in the water, hit each other and throw stones that can fly all over the city.

Well, they are paid to do that.

The game that comes glaringly to mind is Oblivion. They gave it one helluva try though! I just... I don't know, I'm selfish and wanted their AI to be perefect. Curiosity strikes me to ask; how do they make their AI perform? If not scripting, what do they do - what would you call it?

Halo 3 (that's the only one I've played enough to have a lot of experience in their AI) also have bad friendly AI.
