Does it annoy anyone else not being able to save wherever and whenever you like? Why would developers do this on a PC game? When I have to repeat 5 minutes of gameplay that I have already successfully completed, that is called bad game design. The recent Batman games: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City are big offenders of this, sometimes making the player go back to a checkpoint he/she passed 10 minutes ago. From now on if I'm looking at buying a game, I try and find out whether a game has checkpoints - if it doesn't have a decent number of save slots and allow me to save whenever I want, then I refuse to purchase it.
Really? Is this really something to complain about? Having to replay 5-10 minutes? Protip: Don't Die . Am i the only one that remember when games didn't have checkpoints and you had to start at the begining of a level? Gamer sure are spoiled .

OT: no this doesn't bother me , it makes me play more carful and pay more attention. It allows me to get better at a game rather than quicksave/quick load every two steps .

It's better than having one with no autosave feature where if you don't consciously save every five minutes you can find yourself replaying entire levels at a time. Point in case: half life. I was killed early on by a zombie, but since I hadn't saved I went right back to the beginning on the tram.

What I don't understand is why we can't have both in a game (that is to say autosaves and quick/manual saving). One could say that checkpoints make the game challenging and quicksaves make it too easy, but in my opinion it should be up to the player to challenge themselves. If you don't want to quick save (or manual save) then you don't have to, but I really find most checkpoint systems frustrating due to bad design.

Also manual saves allow us to replay certain bits that we like from a mission, and that way we don't have to replay the whole thing. Unless the game lets you load from each of the checkpoints, like Crysis 2 or Mirror's Edge.
