Well there are those f2p action RPG MMOs online. They're usually repetitive and grindy but if you're looking for deep skillful combat these games have it.

There's

Vindictus: The game itself is pretty boring IMO. It's not really designed for PVP and there's not much to do. The graphics are amazing though and this game has some of the best boss fights ever, which is good considering later on most dungeons are pretty much a single boss. I quit it because it got really really grindy.

Dragons Nest : It's a very cartoony anime-ish game (people with huge heads and all that), so if you don't like that style you'll probably be turned off. Combat is very over-the-top too but it's very fun. The classes are very fun and diverse (4 classes each with 2 subclasses and each subclass with 2 sub-subclasses), so you can start out as a normal warrior, decide you want a sword, and eventually learn how to fight by firing laser beams our of your blade, or become a mage and specialize in killing things with black holes. It's been a while since i played but i remember it having a gold seller problem, but i don't know if that's still a big problem.

Also, this game has some great writing for an MMO. It's the only game where i actually wanted to read all the quest dialogue.

Dungeon fighter: This game is one of those old 2d beat-em-up games but with MMO features. You know, like final fight and such. This game is pretty over-the-top too but the characters are generally kept in proportion and if you're tired of fighting goblins and such then this game is for you. This game has a lot of very unique things. The enemies start with the standard fantasy fare (goblins) but then slowly starts getting more crazy. The classes also get pretty unique too, like the swordsman that fights by summoning ghosts, or the priest that fights with boxing (and not that kung-fu monk stuff, i mean actual dodge-and-weave boxing).

And if you don't like to grind and level up and stuff this game lets you go pure PVP starting at lvl 18 after you pick your subclass so if you just want to PVP you can.

Continent of the Ninth: This game is not out yet, Open beta starts sometime in June. Ive been playing this game every since the first closed beta and i really love it. It's a lot more tame than the other games I've mentioned but it's still a bit over the top. I like the combat in this one more than the others. The combat feels like it has a lot of weight and there's a lot of skill involved (I've seen people get beaten up by others 20 lvls behind them). This game is also filled with classes. Right now there are 3 classes with 3 subclasses each out but there's more coming. When it catches up to korea it will have 4 classes with 5 subclasses each, which is a massive amount.

So if you're ever bored try one of them out. They're all free.

wow, the amount of people who don't even read the first line of the OP is staggering.

and between the batman games, condemned and dark messiah we have everything covered. i usually avoid melee combat like the plague, so maybe i missed something

It also contains the ultimate representation of what a modern "vampire" of sorts could be.

Batman: Arkham Asylum/City
Saving the Caped Crusader's videogame career.

Devil May Cry
Fluid action-brawler.

Banjo-Kazooie
Seriously.

Arkham City and Oni are about as close as anything has got for me.
Heed these two fine people, for they speak the truth!
I have yet to find another games that had combat so fluid and at the same time pretty damn satisfying as well.

I'm on the boat with Butcher Bay.

Assault on Dark Athena was fun (with Ulaks) but overall just mediocre compared to Butcher Bay.

Both Batman games (Rocksteady) have great combat systems.

My favorite RPG combat was Dark Messiah. A little hard to swallow overall but the combat was superb. You have good taste sir.

If Arkane Studios makes Dishonored;s combat anything like Dark Messiah's, I'm %100 sold.

Surprised the OP was the only one to mention Severance: Blade of Darkness. I am dissapoint
I would love to see a remake of this game. It was great. I hoped that Hunted df would feature combat like this, but i was in for a dissapointmented.

What about Lord of the rings:war in the north? I`m not sure if there`s a pc version. The combat wasn`t the deepest but still fun. There are a few combos, special abilities, you can block or evade and shoot arrows/bolts/magic projectiles depending on the chosen character. Hacking of arms and heads in slo-mo never gets old for me.

Not flashy and unrealistic? Oh so Bayonetta is a no then? :(

Freakin' love that game. Fuck Angels man, being all divine everywhere. Just who the hell do they think they are?!

There's still that weird gap for me in spectacle fighter type games in that the main character (Dante, Bayonetta) are just being really damn badass and untouchable in cutscenes then it's just:

"ARGH 3 of these Claw Bitches at once? And cars all over the place?! Fucking noooooooooooo!"

I still love it when they send the crappy ordinary enemies at you at time to time, even on Hard. Trolololol infinite Witch Time activate!
I just can not understand the love for that game. I got it due to it being DMC's spiritual successor and it was just.... Not. I mean, there was something really floaty about the combat that made it impossible to enjoy for me. Plus the difficulty was annoying as fudge, to an unpleasant degree, not so much Dark Soul's "Ooh, I got my face smashed in but in doing so was able to find the rhythm of the enemy!" and more "What?! I dodged that! I totally just dodged that! The fuck?!". Don't get me started on the stupid long and unavoidable mini-games
OT: Onimusha 1 (Warlords) and 3 have alright combat systems, the fourth game is PS2 exclusive and still my favourite (don't judge me!) but I've had some good times with those two. I think you're really cutting yourself off from some amazing games with the "no flashy" rule, DMC4 is endlessly fun. Until you complete it. Then the fun ends.

Was gonna mention this as I've been playing the demo over and over (stupid exams), unfortunately for the OP, it's not on the PC. Weird for such a hardcore RPG mind.

Dark messiah of might and magic
Mount and blade : warband
Severence blade of darknesss

Can anyone reccemend anything?
They are awesome ^^

OT:

Hmmm, surprised so many people know about Oni, I thought it was quite an obscure game nowadays.

But yeah, Oni has epic combat.

There is also Chivalry, medieval warfare which looks EXTREMELY promising in terms of combat. In fact this looks like it will trump all of it's competitors when it's released.

Is Chivalry being made by the same guys who did the "Age of Chivalry" multiplayer game on the Source Engine?

EDIT: Just wiki'd it. Holy shit they are... eyes now glued for more news on this.

ONI had a damn fine melee combat system. On top of some solid shooting mechanics as well. If you can find it, I recommend it.

Yep. Buy Chronicles of Riddick, OP. Get some friends and play the Pitch Black game mode.

Do it.

Absolutely. It's one of the best games I ever played. And no one really expected it to be any good. It was the biggest surprise that year.

Also, Bully. I'm surprised no one mentioned Bully yet. It has a pretty sweet melee system. I can't believe Rockstar didn't include it in GTA IV. That was a missed opportunity.

Condemned: Criminal Origins, Batman games, never played Oni but always thought it looked awesome. Also, I kinda liked Dark Souls' style of melee. Recently I've been playing Chivalry: Medieval Warfare and having a lot of fun with that system.
