I had the bad ending in Chrono Cross because I didn't beat the boss "correctly". Yeah, youtube is your friend...:)

castlevania on the n64 had 2 endings for both characters. depending on how long you took on a specific level would determine the end fights and ending you got

The Mass Effect multiple endings were cool. Udina's speech at the end of the bad one gave me chills. I like that they at least attempted to give you a difficult choice, although the only time they did that successfully was in Bring Down the Sky.
I found with Mass Effect I didn't really feel like I was playing the same game 3 times over. I was always finding new things and new ways to deal with situations. ME and Bioshock are the only 2 games I ever replayed a second time and really enjoyed. A few I have replayed but it was for achievements and cuz there was nothing better to play.

Well, there's Mass Effect and the two KOTORs. They all have 2 endings, with Mass Effect having 3 endings.

I like, as others have said, when the game ending depends on your actions, not just one small choice at the end. Although I tend to replay games I enjoy playing rather than if they have a different ending.

Shadow the Hedgehog is the most notable because of the fact that is has A LOT of endings.
Be that as it may, all the endings have him getting the chaos emeralds and saying, "I am Shadow(insert which one here) and I (evil) will take over the earth/destroy humankind, or (good) I will help people and save stuff.
Pretty boring and not at all worth seeing all of them.

I don't know about that. Yes, you are right to say that Shadow the Hedgehog has alot of endings, but how similar can those endings possibly be? Every single ending is almost the exact same, usually ending with Shadow saying that he has discovered who he really is and then the Chaos emeralds orbit around him. Then, depending on whether or not you end up as a good guy or bad guy, he then claims he's going to take over the world or fight aliens.

EDIT: To contribute to the thread, I'd say Oddworld did a good job with the endings, where if you saved enough mudokens

The Natives would save you before Mullok would send you to your death and you are then praised as a hero when you get back to your homeland

And if you didn't save enough mudokens...

The Natives wouldn't give two shits about you and you'd get your ass chopped up in a meat grinder

Alternate endings are merely a transparent attempt to try to lengthen the lifespan of the game.
I don't replay games with multiple endings. I love having some flexibility in where the story goes, however.

I thought the "bad" one was the natural choice, though. Why risk the whole galaxy just to save its token leaders?

Mostly what was missing was an opportunity to put Udina in his place when he started spouting all that shit about humanity's future.

I find it irritating when the ending you get is influenced solely by one dialog option at the end, and nothing else. E.G. Fable, Mass Effect
I didn't so much mind in Mass Effect, cause it wasn't really a "good/evil" ending that's influenced by your choices. The "good/evil" part is the setting in which Anderson, Udina and Shepard talk. If you were Renegade, they talked in a dark room with eery lights, and if you were Paragon, they talked on the Presidium.

Fable however was a prime example of what I was talking about, but it pissed me off a lot more in TFU for some reason. It was probably worse in Fable though, because the good/evil ending was chosen AFTER beating the last linear boss.

The first time I played through Abe's Odyssey I was only able to save 46 of the mudokkons, hence they killed me for being an asshole. I really like that ending, but I did end up playing through the game again and "winning". I don't think I played it through again to get the better ending though, but to try and see how much better I could do on a second run through.

I think the only game that ever made me play it again to get a better ending was Fallout 2, the ending for Gecko. I played through the whole thing again just to realize that the ending is buggy. The good ending wasn't available due to a bug.

First time I played Dead Rising I got the "crappy" ending or so I read in the internet, and so I tried playing through it to get something better, but I just couldn't bring myself to saving all the stupid people, so I just gave up and looked it up on YouTube...not something I'm proud of, but meh oh well, I'll just try harder in the sequal

KOTOR 1, playing Good or Evil. Playing through as Good was a cool ending, being honored like at the end of Star Wars:A New Hope. But playing through as Evil kicked ass at the end. I loved it when evil Bastila was up there cheering on the troops to take over the galaxy for you as evil Revan. That was SWEET.

Man, you know how old that game is? It is over five years old, I figured anyone who cared had played it all ready. It is kind of like spoiling the ending to GTA3. Who doesn't know the end to GTA3?

I don't, cuz I haven't beaten it, but I promise I won't call you a jerk for posting it. As you said, the game's OLD.

I really!!! hate being limited on my number of saves for certain endings. I dont have enough time do play through games with limited saves...i just dont. It has nothing to do with my "skills" as a gamer just my time to game.

One of the things I like about how Silent Hill implements alternate endings in SH2 is how it's a bit of a mystery how to get different endings. Sure, you can look up deciding factors on the internet if you want to, but they tend to be rather odd or unusual things that you're not aware of doing. You're unconsciously making choices that affect the game, rather than the obvious dialog tree choices where you know your choice makes an impact.

While I have no patience with artificial difficulty making a game longer, I don't mind alternate endings. They're like treats or rewards for playing the game again or trying a new difficulty.

However, basing a game's sequel off the alternate ending is not a good idea. Yes, I'm looking at you PoP:TTT. :D
