Yay, as they become all about luck or cheating. Single player, everyone has to try and do it themselves, whereas multiplayer, it depends on other people.

I say yay, instead of having a bunch of overcompensating 12 year olds fragging your ass to get an achievement, they're only doing it for fun. And an atmosphere of fun makes an entire experience fun, rather than one of "Must get achievement, other players are only obstacles"

Halo 3 is a good example of achievements ruining a team game. I can think of many games where all I cared about was getting whatever achievement I can. Like the four grenade sticks or three kills on a ghost one. They tried to make it better by making most of them in lone wolves, but still. I'll never get that damn splatter spree one.

Anyone want to boost?

I normally hate multiplayer achievements with a passion, but Puzzle Fighter is my one exception. =] Multiplayer is where that game shines.

I hate it when they put multiplayer acheivments in. It means "Hurr Derr you have to also pay for online you moron so that you have to give is more money to finally fully finish this game". I tend to look down on games that do that. For example, Halo 3, ESPECIALLY Halo 3 When they said you could only do that in ranked playlists I was pissed. No I think that they should leave those out.

Yay. Much yay.
For someone who rarely plays multiplayer, and can be a bit OCD with some things, it's nice to see I can get that 1000G if I try.
This. Also, what if I don't get the game immediately and the current mp is nearly non-existent, thats just a bummer. Most MP setups have leveling up and experience to strive for, there's no need to make the player strive for the achieves or trophies too.

I say no. I had a fairly high trophy percentage in Killzone2, then after all the bonus levels came out, it dwindled to 22%

I like trophy/acheivement free multiplayer, too. Co-op needed ones need to go away, too. All games should be completable without an online connection.

I was just missing the Viral in Borderlands...

Nay. I can see why they appeal to some people, I just don't like them. I play games for fun, I don't need some achievement on my list to say that I am good at it.

I also find it really annoying when people are only trying to get achievements online. "Why did you shoot the Tank?!?!?! I was trying to solo it!!" I shot it because it was running at me and about to throw me off the building. If you want to solo it, go play single player.

Yay to the power of SuperYay. I think that a player should be able to do all the trophies in a game just by playing on their own or if there are multi-player trophies one should be able to get them by playing offline with a friend.

I was actually all for s.p.o.t.t.o.gs (single player only trophy types og games), until I played uncharted 2 to plat and was left with a lust for a reason to play to max lvl in multiplayer.
My favorit formula is 75% singleplayer - 25% multiplayer...

I don't like it, but then again, I also hate that DJ Hero has a trophy for playing 2 player on one console with 2 DJ Hero controllers, and another for 2 player with a guitar controller. BULLSHIT! Anyway, I think achievements/trophies are often retarded, but I do love getting them. I would prefer if you could platinum without 100% completion - say, do all the multiplayer trophies OR all the single player trophies.

Thing is, multiplayer = repeat experience while single player = working through a story and (hopefully) unique scenarios which keeps it interesting and getting the trophies for progression is just nice. I tend to get bored of repeat experiences. So, a multiplayer trophy for just trying it out, maybe getting 1 win or hitting rank 2 is nice, but looking at BioShock 2 trophies which require up to lvl 40 online... eff off!!! So lame.

And don't even get me started on the trophies that require 10 000 kills online (Resistance 2, Battlefield: BC, Red Faction: Guerrilla - 5000 kills, Uncharted 2 - 2500 kills). 2500 isn't so bad I guess
What about Gears of War 2's Seriously 2.0 achievement?100,000 kills.I've played through the campaign several times and played a hell of a lot of the multiplayer and I'm only around the 25,000 kill mark.

OT:I'm not a fan of games with Multiplayer achievements.Achievements should be single player and offline only.

The main problem with multiplayer achievements is that they're either too time consuming (get 1000 kills with X weapon) or fall under extremely luck based situations that are impossible to get under a blue moon (kill five people with a grenade while holding the other team's flag). Because of the absurd conditions many people have resorted to achievement farming and will dedicate entire matches and servers to the cause. I don't think developers intended for this to happen but in defense of the players I can only see some of these ridiculous accomplishments being carried by these means.

Uncharted and Call of Duty manages to come to a brilliant compromise. While the actual trophies merely consist of just playing the multi-player, they also reward goal oriented player extra points if they complete certain feats (kill the entire team by yourself, do 50 melee kills etc) These games reward players for a completing specific objectives but don't actually force you to complete them. I really hope this system spreads out to other games because I think its fantastic.

Nay.

I think TF2 is a prime example of how not to do it. Everytime valve releases a new set of achievements the game pretty much grinds to a halt for a week or two while people faff around trying to farm them and trying out the new weapons making it almost impossible to get a proper game going. Very annoying.
