This one is fairly old, but when I last read a review of the game "Black", there was lots of praise for the guns sounding and feeling just right.

Second that, a truly magnificent shooter that one.
Can be a bit brutal though, so be prepared for a challenge.

Never seen Aim Down Sights abbreviated that way (they're Iron Sights after all, Aim Down is just a description)

Anyway what about Bulletstorm? I don't seee how a gunthat fires two bombs attached to a chain could feel anything but powerful.

ADS is a common term. And iron sights is just one type of sights.
I'm gonna disagree with you there because I had to actually google the term ADS in order to figure out what this topic was about (and I do play FPSes). It's not a very intuitive acronym, nor have I heard it used before in any FPS that I've played.

If the OP just said "iron sights," it would make a lot more sense. You don't really need an acronym to express the concept when we have two perfectly good English words that convey the necessary concept perfectly intelligibly.

OT: Discounting third-person shooters, the big one I can think of is Halo. Halo 4 actually caught some flak from a "critic" for not having iron sights; there was a thread on the Escapist about it a while back. On PC, there's TF2, which is obviously a multiplayer-only experience (a totally free multiplayer experience!)

You could say something similar about most acronyms.

Besides, are these iron sights
Aim down sights is a far more correct term, and ADS is a much shorter and easier way of typing it.

Soldier of Fortune 1 and 2. Old. Horribly violent. Pretty much single player...and some of the most distubingly satisfying gunplay I have ever encountered.
Yeah, i really miss the fun gory feedback of SOF in allmost all the new shooter games. It`s quite a bit sad since the second SOF is almost ten years old and there`s still no game out that matches the precise violence of this franchise(otherwise i dig the bulletholes in the latest Rockstar games).

I am going to say it over and over again: HARD RESET EXTENDED EDITION!! Painkiller too. Hard Reset is like $4 on steam right now--you'll love it, I guarantee!

I guess you're also opposed to the RTS acronym when people could just as well say "strategy".
to be honest i didn't know what ADS meant either, and i asked a couple of my CS:GO friends and neither of them had heard it either (not arguing if you shouldn't use it or not, just adding my two cents in as never seeing that before.)

also, RTS Is a specific type of strategy game, while strategy could house a whole general genre of games (anything from civilization to age of empires to starcraft)

OT: from what i remember OP, battlefront II didn't have "ADS" (ooh look at me using new acronym's!) and that is easily one of my favorite shooters of all time, and i'm pretty sure the only community is still bustling about

Well if you look for equally fast paced shooters then:
- Painkiller Hell and Damnation (it's a prettier remake of Painkiller)
- Hard Reset (essentially Painkiller in cyberpunk style)
- Unreal Tournament 99/2004 (only really multiplayer games, also UT3 is anus)
- Serious Sam 3 in a pinch

- Gears is ok but you need to know that game plays at about 20% the speed others do
- and Halo at about 50%
- then there is Bulletstorm equally slow and horribly limited, can't even jump unless you rubb your face against walls that the game sometimes decides are jumpable
To be honest, I was never into fast paced shooters. My brain could never handle it, with the sole exception of the original DOOM. Like, Team Fortress? Forget about it. I was dead before I even knew what was going on.

I'm going to have to go with Soldier of Fortune 2.
That does look a lot like what I meant. I'll take a better look at it when I have more time later. Thanks for the suggestion!

I don't really like shooting robots outside of massive ones for boss fights. It kind of ruined Vanquish for me, which is sad because I loved the mechanics. Binary Domain was better about it, but the PC port had no small number of problems. Also fuckin' forced vehicle section. There was only one, but goddamn it was almost as bad as the hovercraft boat segment in Half-Life 2.

INOTI. YAFTCCOOWCOWYFINTECCIAFSS. IWJPOTYSBATNEIGTKWYTA, ATLIOCYA, TLLIITYBCU.

AWYRTPAWYMITGHAEAITIA "C" TTTSBFW, TLLTBIIWIWYWSITFP.

I'm not opposed to it. You are totally free to create contractions out of whatever combination of words you fancy in order to express complex concepts in a few short syllables. I was just pointing out that you should be aware that not everyone is guaranteed to know what you're talking about, and the less intuitive or commonplace your acronym, the less likely it is that you'll be clearly understood.

And when your reaction to people asking what you meant is to get huffy and elitist and insist that it's a "common" term that they should be familiar with, they're less likely to be interested in whatever it was you were saying in the first place.

That's ridiculously pedantic. I'm not trying to be insulting, but it's kind of absurd that you'd use the fact that iron sights are a subtype of gun sights as a reason for using an acronym that only people who hang out on Call of Duty forums are going to recognise.

If that was really your concern, expend even less effort and just say "sights."

Valve games come to mind. I'm not sure that any of them have ADS on their guns, Half-Life and Left 4 Dead in particular. I also just finished Bioshock, and while that technically has an option to aim down the sights, you'll never use it because not doing so is far better.

Get Max Payne 2, download the mod Payne Effects 3. You will feel like God and your eardrums will sing of joy due to the sound.

Arma 2- Sniping dudes with a M1014. While hip-firing. The hip fire in ARMA is incredibly accurate, especially for a "Realistic" military sim. Get some slugs for your shotgun and its great! Love that game!

I suggest trying 3rd-person shooters as most of the shooting in them has you shooting guns from over-the-shoulder view instead of ADS.

ADS is an extremely common acronym. I don't even have a trophy/achievement for any Call of Duty game and I know what ADS stands for. Just like OTS (over-the-shoulder) aiming is a common acronym for TPSs.

This post is funny, because the OP specifically calls out Bioshock and Half-Life for feeling like the guns are weak.

OT: ... I don't really know, to be honest. I've never really minded sight-aiming, so it's never bothered me. The guns feel pretty weighty in Metro 2033, but it still has sight-aiming, so.

Captcha: EDIT: Apparently it didn't like the way I linked it, oh well.

Rage and Far Cry 3 come to mind, but Rage has a lot of ADS as far as I can remember.

With Far Cry 3 you also have to buy the sights, but their relatively cheap.

Far Cry 3's shotguns are very powerful: When you get your hands on Spas 12, you will raise hell with it. I know I did.
