Games with siege gameplay

So after a long time of gaming, I've seen some things in games which I like, and some things which I dont. There are also a few things which I would quite like to see.

One of said "things" is siege gameplay. E.G: being given the freedom to lay siege to a city, using weapons like ballista's and trebuchets (as Mirdon once said, Trebuchets is an awesome sounding word :p)

After playing around with a few games from steam, I see that sieges are used in certain games (E.G: mount and blade, Europa Universalis, etc) but they dont really feel that involved!
On Mount and Blade, all you have to do is wait a few hours (game time) for either some ladders or a siege tower to be built, and then you get to run up a set of stairs (getting rudely pushed off by your soldiers, i might add :<) and then hack away at a small army until you get a message saying "everyone is dead, now have fun in your new castle".
In Europe Universalis 3, (strategy game which I dont fully understand) All i had to do was send some troops to a town and then wait for them to claim it. EU3 probably wasnt a great choice in this matter.

Even though I liked both games, what i REALLY want to see is a game (preferably sandbox) which allows you to launch a fully interactive siege, in which you can operate siege equipment and fight the enemy, and while im on the subject, I'd also like to see some destruction physics in place, to make the siege feel more awesome.

(side note, I know this may sound a lot like winter grasp to any WoW players out there, but thats not quite what i'm looking for here)

From my perspective, Mount and Blade came very close to perfection (I know quite a lot of people were disappointed with M&B, but i really enjoyed it). If it had a more interactive siege, I probably would never play anything else.

But, back to the original topic, If anyone knows a game which fits that description to some extent, could you please tell me what it is?

Thank you :)

(Another side note, when I asked friends about this earlier, the common response i got was "Battlefield: Bad company 2", I know it has awesome destruction physics, but I'm looking for something that has sandbox gameplay.)

(Final side note: I know i sound REALLY picky with my description, and for that I apologise, but at the moment im a little annoyed with the amount of games i've tried which have promised awesomeness and didn't deliver)

The definition of siege the surrounding of a building or area, thus cutting off supplies inside the buildings leading to internal warfare and the eating of the young... that DOES sound like fun.

Stronghold (preferably crusader) and Medieval Total War. That should satisfy your craving.

If you want to play an active role as a soldier in a Siege, Mount & Blade: Warband has a few siege maps.

Have you ever heard of "Sins of a Solar Empire"?
its a space RTS about territory control, economics, warfare, and diplomacy
if you approach an enemy planet, you siege it with nukes and large battleship cannons until the civilian population surrenders, whether the other player wants to or not

Rome Total War did it best. Medieval went a little too far, and had super-duper-buggy-as-fuck AI. Empire just scrapped the whole "siege" thing and made it into a rubber duck shooting when defending.

You know what would be fun? A game that is all sieges. You customize your defense against a horde of attacking units, all of which differentiate in their strengths and weaknesses, and then take on the horde in first-person hack and slash mode. It would be an amazing mix of tower defense and first-person combat.

Still, nothing that I can really think of in terms of that "Hold the line" feel.

EVE Online, space sieges except instead of tiny little cities and stations why not siege an entire system!? Sov is still an amazing thing to me.

I dunno...it'd be hard to do well, I think.

I mean, sieges are long, boring affairs...which is why Hollywood has swarms of mooks with ladders instead. Sitting round for months of years waiting for the enemy to starve...not terribly interesting.

Though...countermining...I'd like to see that done well.

I thought of something different..... Mainly the segments in Resi 4 and 5 where you have to hold off the zom-sorry, las. Plagas. Still the best segments in the games.

Try 'Mount & Blade' For that first paragraph, dude.

Already exists, in RTS/hack-and-slash form:

And a tower defense/mech shooter is also in the works by the same company:

Yes, I know... If you had read the OP then you would know that the inspiration of the thread is Mount & Blade. What I am proposing is a game that plays only in scenarios and all of those scenarios are intense sieges.

Trenched looks a little more in line what I was thinking about but still not quite. I was leaning more towards a Defensive Action game where you defend the walls rather than venture outwards.

Some people have already mentioned Stronghold, It's an excellent seige simulation, but I must say it lacks any FPS action, being strictly RTS eye in the sky view, still it is excellent for the strategy aspect.

It certainly isn't close to "sandbox" gameplay, but I remember putting tons of hours into Sierra's classic "Lords of the Realm II", and the real-time top-down siege battles were a real highlight. A well-upgraded castle was nearly impossible to take without overwhelming numbers and a good tactical sense to spot weak points.
