(but to be honest, EVE Online, as many of the standard NPC battleships have crews of thousands and you can destroy several in a single mission.)

ok lets take the recant Super Cap Battle in Venal, (Super Caps are the Biggest ships in the universe spanning several miles with crews of at least 300-400 thousand) 9 were destroyed let alone the super cap losses around 7 Titans and 2 Motherships so that's what 3-4 Million people gone, oh and several hundred billion in moneys, so DAM

Has anyone mentioned something like Dynasty Warriors or derivatives like Ninteny-Nine-Nights? I'll admit I'm not really fans, but seeing as they're all centered around massacring hundreds upon thousands of enemies in just one scene, I'd say they have a high death toll. Good seconds though would be games like Saints Row, GTA, and as a lot of people have mentioned; Left 4 Dead.

I'm going to say any intergalactic space game where you can conquer planets. I think you can in Spore. Obviously you don't see much death but you would have to kill a fair amount of people to make a species bow down to you.

Is this purely body count or is this based on perspective and proportion? There is the matter of player:kill ratios that might influence the conclusivity of a murder simulator. You can cite games where you get to murder millions, but you are probably not witnessing it or have a similar (at least in scale) number of characters doing the fighting for you.

If it's only the number, it's probably gonna be an RTS.

RTSs, technically speaking. You lose or wipeout entire armies. I think in Kessen individual units could be comprised of over ten thousand men. Even playing those games a handful of times wipes out huge populations.

dead rising series
if you combine every zombie killed from every save file including the save files that were deleted and every zombie that didn't count as a kill because you died, 100s of 1000s of zombies per player.

Were there not an article about a CoD game where in the worlds population had been slaughtered rather quickly?
Either 8 or 11 times over.

Also any Dynasty, Samurai, or Mushu Warriors game. Average number of kills per level is between 500-1000.

Dead Rising and Left 4 Dead, and their respective sequels.

Also, any real time strategy game.

Games I've played with a crazy body count is Prototype and Just Cause 2. They have already been stated however, so I'm not really contributing... :<

Mass effect 3 may have a HUGE body count coming up, I mean the Reapers are all over Europe in the trailer so we are definetly screwed without Shephard and his army.

How many mobs do you have to kill in WoW to grind to level 85......yeah.
Was gonna say Dead Rising (one or two, it doesn't really matter) but yeah, WoW probably has it beat...

While these probably don't count I will give props to the video game adaption of Return of the King and Star Wars Republic Comando.

In RotK there was this level called the Southern Keep (I think) where you had to break open this gate to beat the level. In front of the gate there's this big area where a never ending supply of orcs comes at you, so basically you could fight as many orcs as you wanted. I remember my friends and I would play the level for hours fighting thousands of orcs.

Republic Commando wins the award for game that had you kill the most battle droids. They would always come in groups of 5 so you would kill at least a hundred in every level.

Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress Classic and 2, Half-Life 1 and 2 (it's got an active community that keeps replaying it and they came out in 1997 and 2005, respectively), Madness Interactive and all it's mods, or Starcrafts 1 and 2.
