The first F.E.A.R. and FC2 like you mentioned. I think F.E.A.R. was the first FPS to give you an actual body you could see when you looked down.

So this is an oldie but the Peter Jackson's King Kong game did a really good job of giving you gameplay info without any hud at all.
Damn underrated (movie) game that is. Really underrated.

Other than that, next to the games already mentioned (especially Metroid Prime), I really liked Riddick's first person view. Really made me feel like a stealthy killer.

I thought i was the only one who played that. It was genuinely superb. If you still have it boot it up again complete it (shouldnt take long) then play the alternate ending

Mirror's Edge popped to mind pretty damn fast, and nothing I've played comes even close to it.
Nothing else really comes to mind, actually. It's all the same stuff, mostly.

This may be hard to explain... please excuse me if I sound like a nut :)
Also, there may be a few threads like this in these forums but I didn't see any on the first few pages.

Anyway, I love the sense of immersion & player agency you get from full 1st person views in games (where you can see your own arms, torso, legs, feet). It really gives me a sense of locational awareness and boosts immersion quite a bit for me. Alternatively, I also really like context-specific first person animations (like the diving animation from FC3, but honestly, that's the only one I can think of)

However, when I think on it not many games have these features/animations. A few that come to mind are Thief, Mirror's edge, Metro(2033 and LL) and FC2/FC3. There's a moment in Metro: Last light where your vehicle breaks down, and in frustration your character, Artyom, lightly bangs on the car with his closed fist twice, lighter the second time. In that moment I felt completely in sync with Artyom, like "ahhhh god dammit now I have to walk".

Can you guys recommend any games that have a similar mechanic?

EDIT: Just remembered Arma/Dayz as well :)

I would love to know some really immersive FP games as well.In particular,non-shooty ones.Don't get me wrong,I love a good FPS as much as anybody, but sometimes I just want the bad guys to f*** off and let me explore the environment.Myst was about the first pc game I ever played,I loved the sense of exploration in that. And I loved the fact that in Half Life 2,once the baddies were trounced, you could have a nice roam around.
Any non-shooters somebody could recommend?

Far Cry III did it extremely well. The healing, the sliding and feel of movement when rushing an enemy to stab them was very organic.

The "tripping balls" scenes were not jarring either, despite being alien.

No doubt - Arma series / Arma 3. The fact that you actually have a body and can rotate your head independently of the centered camera beats everything else. You also have many additional parameters that add to the experience - aiming deadzone, headbob, etc.

Awesome for a military simulator.
Agreed. Having glorious legs alone usually makes me very happy, but in ArmA, you even have a solid body! And a neck, as opposed to having your head welded to your arms. It's very useful, being able to aim and look in different directions.

And I really love how you can flatten grass by lying down on it. And do a little roll when you're prone. Sometimes, I just roll around in the grass in absolute bliss. Don't know why, I just love that feature.
