over the last two days I have started my first two threads, and both times loved the responses I've been getting, today I ask you 'what should have been, but never was?' it could be an old game you want remade, a more recent game redone with less retarded design decisions (cough mirrors edge cough) or just part of a game that you endured the rest of the game just for it I await your suggestions

Far Cry 2 is a very fun game, but a save anywhere system for the console version and a better fast travel system would have made it excellent. As it stands, it's the only game I own for my 360 that I haven't finished.

I think I'm the only one with this position, but there wasn't enough Arbiter's Grounds in LoZ: Twilight Princess. The second half, anyway. I absolutely loved the spinner. It made me feel like Tony Hawk crossed with a Pinball crossed with a frickin' train. Then I left the dungeon and more or less never used it again.

APB really epic game but sadly the game could easily wipe out wow if it pushes towards social gaming and more diverse experiances

Easily Alone in the Dark (the new one).

Pretty good in terms of innovation, very bad in terms of good (=fun) execution...

X-Com: Apocalypse is the best example. It had some brilliant design for the time, particularly with the real-time tactical combat (I have NEVER seen anything that even comes close to it's awesome design and execution).

However, the weapon design, balance, enemies, and story we're all lackluster. Which is a shame; the previous X-Com games had better storytelling but the combat was slow and clunky. Apocalypse streamlined that and made the combat tense, thrilling, and FUN, but lost a lot of the story elements.

Brutal Legend. I mean how the hell could Tim Schafer fuck up metal land?
Also Assassin's Creed 1 was great but could have been much better but they fixed it already.

I abosolutly agree, far cry 2 had tonnes of good ideas but so much grind
I agree with both of you. This game could have had me wrapped for days, but the annoying npc's chasing you in trucks, all the time, always the same, none of them are just happy to sit around, they'll drop whatever they're doing to chase you and you alone. The buses were okay for fast travel I thought though. As nice as the fire was, they could have made it better. starting a fire in scrub like that isn't just going to go out over a 20sq foot area, should've spread much farther, been more of a factor. I could ramble for ages, but the fact is, its a very very very lacklustre diamond. It's in need of a good cut and polish.

EDIT: good on you for making threads too mate. A few people feel intimidated by this environment, but with good quality posts like this, I applaud you. well done champ. You remind me of me. Hopefully your threads do a bit better than mine ;)

Umm... I have to say the Wii. I know that it is a console, not a game, but when I think good Wii titles, I think Mario Galaxy. That's it. I know that I'm bound to get some hate mail for this, but if Nintendo had created more quality games, a la the Gamecube and the 64, then Nintendo might not have started to go the way of Sega. They could have also done something slightly more than the Wiiware channel thing. I couldn't make heads or tails of that thing. No patches, no demos, and that fun points system. *Shudder*

Well, that, and if they got a HUGE MASSIVE FANBASE! To begin with.

Else, no dice.

Even though I loved it, Transformers Armada wasted quite a bit of potential. Two more levels, 10 or 20 more Minicons to collect, two or three more of those epic boss fights, a character development system and an expansion of the painfully small roster of playable characters could have made the game fantastic... as it stands it's just really good. ^^

Far Cry 2 up the hizzouse!

Yeah, I know at least two others before me have already mentioned it but oh well.

Yet again I must state my disdain for FEAR 2: Project Origin. They could've at least upped the AI so that the battles would've been somewhat entertaining like in the original FEAR. But noooooooo. They had to dumb it down and make it a lesser game than its predecessor. A fair bit of wasted potential there.

FarmVille

Okay, okay, I'll be serious. Daikatana

Let me try that again.

StarFox Adventures. I honestly think it had a lot of potential, but it lacked substance.

lol my mate and I were just talking about this today.

Pre prepared, 'coz I'm gonna use this thread as an excuse to dump ideas.

I think [Prototype] was a big waste. sure they made a good fun game, but the potential for a evolving game experience was hugely missed. We were talking about only being able to evolve up certain evolution trees and when you pick one, another was closed off, having real benefits and consequences for your choices.
For example, say you start with six choices for weapons (muscle arms, hammerfists, whipfist, claws, blade and a mass cannon), you can only choose three. As you upgrade them you unlock certain branches (say the whipfist having a bladed tip on the end or a bludgeon) where you can only pick one, forcing you to think about the advantages and disadvantages of having each upgrade. The you have two power classes, agility and power. there are skills in each

Agility has Running speed, jump hieght, gecko form (your climbing and perception), and winged form.

Power has general muscle strength, shell armour (a ball that you erect around yourself), armour plating and what I like to call Hulk armour form.

For normal powers (not forms) as you increase one, like running speed, by pouring xp into it, you slowly decrease your effectiveness at using Power normal abilities like shell armour, muscle and plating and vice versa. Conversely as you pour xp into one form (Which doesn't activate until you max out the xp bar) the ability to achieve other forms is weakened until you cam't get another form. It's designed so you choose wisely, as each form has advantages and disadvantages.

Gecko form has you transformsomewhat into a gecko-like cratue, with a large head with big eyes, finger and toe pads and a tail and you earn the abilities to use vision modes much better, climb and stick to surfaces with great speed, weaker frame, greatly increased speed and agility and a basic camo ability.

Hulk form basically makes you the rough size of the hulk, with huge, crab-like armour covering your body, making you impervious to bullets, massive strength, slow speed and turning and the most destructive forms of each weapon.

Finally, Winged form sees you sprouting massive wings from your back and taking to the skies, allowing you to fly and hover, giving you great speed, vicious talons and an aerial perspective of the battlefield.

Lastly but not least, there would be 6-player multiplayer, with free roam, co-op, deathmatch and team deathmatch, plus some others.

I think MAG could have been an amazing game if it was done better. The mechanics of a 256 player online network is brilliant. But I just don't think MAGs gameplay was up to scratch.
