That's GWs way. Its super serious and permanent, but only in regards to the thing they invented right then and there to destroy to give the false impression of super seriousness. They won't risk alienating the players who have a specific army by killing them off.
Normally, yes, but they did kill off the Bretonnians and the Tomb Kings. As an aside, this means that the only humans left in AoS are from the Reich. Yeha, um...

(If they are going to wipe out a no-name chapter, they could at least kill off one of the zillions that get mentioned every so often but never get rules or even a paint scheme. And then retroactively make them important by mentioning them afterwards.)

Ah, you mean way back in the good old days when hovertanks were made from deodorant bottles and the squats still existed?
My bearded ratling snipers have no idea what you mean. Aren't squats some kind of leg exercise?

See I wouldn't mind if they killed off one of the 'real' chapters. The Imperium can always make more, they have the Geneseed. But it'd add to the threat of Chaos if like...all the White Scars are killed.

They've done it before during the Great Beast war. All the Imperial Fists were killed and they had to remake the chapter from geneseed storage and volunteers from other chapters.

Eh, you've got the negatives of killing off a chapter (they are excluded from being events "now"), but if they aren't dead you don't get the kudos.

OTOH, if you want to kill off a chapter with successors...say if the Blood Angels get killed off, and some of their successors who are very similar and have similar paint schemes go on some big quest for revenge, then you could kill off a chapter without annoying the players too much. Just put some black on the red and you can still use them.

So it seems the Eldar will now be called the Aeldari, but the Dark Eldar will not be the Dark Aeldari, so it's pretty clear whatever they're doing at GW it may be safe to assume this unholy alliance between the Eldar, Dark Eldar and the Imperium may not be as temporary as we'd naturally be led to believe.

Edit: It would also seem the Imperial Guard is now the Astral Militarum, because fuck names GW can't trademark I guess.

Astral Millitarum Sounds way too fancy. Imperial Guard is a solid name for the Bedrock of the Imperium. The solid base that maintains status quo so the space marines(or are they only to be called Adeptus Astartes now?) can go do the fancy day saving things.

Yup, though that's been the case for a while. Mind you, Imperial Guard is a bit vague, and there's been a number of real ones. But wod have been best to call it that from the beginning if that was the intent.

Likewise, Stormtroopers are now Tempestus Scions. Because.

They probably tried to trademark Eldar. Just like they did Ultramarine, Imperial Guard, Storm Troopers. They have no idea what they're doing.

I'll reiterate what I said in the Wild West topic about this and point out that Failbaddon wanted to conquer Cadia, not destroy it. Now Chaos can't have the Cadian Gate they so desperately wanted.

Failbaddon the Armless; even when he wins, he loses.

I was fine with the occasional temporary cease-fire to fight a common threat, but a permanent alliance with the Eldar (and no, I ain't calling them Aeldari)? Keep your filthy xenos out of my Imperium!

Eldar suck anyway. Bunch of space pansies...

Well The Eldar allying with the Imperium would make that ridiculous Crack Theory I posted make more sense, because then we would no longer need the Astronomicon so the Emperor is free to be the true Villain as his brain was corrupted by the unfettered warp for 10 thousand years

He may also finally make his return though, since after 10 thousand years of being worshipped by the Imperium (and even a few minor Xeno races) he is at least as powerful as one of the four Chaos gods (though whether he's as powerful as Slaanesh is up for debate) so the Imperium would have a better chance against the incomprehensible forces it is besieged from.

There's also the fact that the Emperor didn't have a problem with Xenos so long as they where not a threat to humanity, and in fact formed alliances with some during the Great Crusade (including a small federation that was mixed human and Xeno), and Imperial policy regarding Xenos has always been governed by Realpolitik (while trade is banned, that ban is only enforced when a local governor needs to be replaced) so a permanent alliance with the Eldar and the Tau wouldn't be out of the question for dealing with Chaos and the Nids.

The Dark Eldar on the other hand will need to really, really change their ways (or stop having humans be the target of their ways) for any alliance to be more then temporary, as while they have just as much reason to oppose Chaos or the Nids as anyone else, that doesn't mean anyone would want their help if they didn't absolutely need it in that moment.

That's it, we need to band together as a species against this. Let's all put aside our differences for one day and focus on what really unites us all.

Oh lord, I didn't hear about this stuff, now I actually am concerned that they might be gearing up for a major edition revision, hopefully not as drastic as End Times was.

Um...GW has just released Bloodbowl, so if people give up of AoS and 40k they've got another game they can play?
